Review of flight AV55 from Munich International Airport (MUC) to Bogota El Dorado International Airport (BOG). I was fortunate to be able to travel on business class on what many reviewers thought to be "most underrated business class product". The seat configuration in business class is 1-2-1 in reverse herringbone. The aircraft has the capacity of 250 passengers, 28 in business class and 222 in economy class.
This is actually my first time flying Avianca on an international business class flight, and I really liked it. I booked this as Star Alliance award ticket from Istanbul to Santiago de Chile. Availability around 2 months prior to departure was quite plentiful even though the flight is eventually full.
I was quite impressed with the service, both the hard and soft product on-board this flight. Notable mentions are:
1. Nice aircraft, very clean, very comfortable seat with nice and soft bedding
2. Awesome amenity kits by Salvatore Ferragamo
3. Nice IFE with good content (including menu - big fan of that rather than wasting paper)
4. Excellent service by cabin crew - I really felt taken care of
Overall, I would say this is a very competitive long haul business class product.

Hello Aviation Lovers! do you know that Avianca is the world's second oldest extant airline after KLM, and celebrated its 100th anniversary in December 5, 2019. For this trip report, i am presenting their business class product on the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner which is truly impressive. I have two residences.. one in Dallas and one in Bogota... and I fly United and Avianca exclusively! It is has always been a very good experience.. on time, yummy food.. with bag... and nice staff.... Bravo, Avianca!!!!

I just saw one of Avianca’s 787’s in Madrid and was wondering what the inside was like and now I know! It’s really great that you got to try their Business Class on such a long flight. The cabin looked really nice and I’d definitely like to try it myself one day. Did you manage to get any sleep?
NYC Flyer thank you very much mate, it’s actually their longest scheduled flight. I did manage to get 6 hrs of high quality sleep roughly, as the seat was very comfortable and the service was efficient. Sorry for my late response as I had no internet these past few days 🙏🏻
Another great video! I think this Business Class configuration is one of the best choices, not like old 2-3-2 Business on some 777s :-) And also good, that was possible to get this flight with award miles! Btw. was it possible to reserve a seat within a ticket booking, or was it assigned at the check-in counter?
Pete Brandy thank you mate! Great to know that you liked it. Yup I used SQ Krisflyer miles. I think it’s possible if you just book this route. Unfortunately my ticket was issued by TK and I was unable to book the seat until the check in time even when using the Avianca app. Btw sorry for my late reply as I had no internet the past few days 🙏🏻

Sorry have to completely disagree. Just flew business Aug 2022 787-8 dreamliner from Bogota to Los Angeles just over a 7 hour flight. No hot meal. Same exact box lunch as economy. No wine or beer. No pillow or blanket offered/available. Extremely sad. Food just horrible. My opinion probably not worth the upgrade. Only positive to say is that the seating chair can completely lie flat so that was nice. Otherwise, service and food was no existence or borderline same or worst as economy (my friend in economy got the same exact cold sandwich, snack, water actually before me, I was seated in 7A last row of business class he was in 12F window seat economy). Unless you want the extra leg room”it” might be worth the exuberant upgrade for something similar for economy only on red eye flight. Overall same exact service or worse than economy, but obviously better seating.....
Yeah not impressed. Thanks for doing the vid though. Looks sterile, boxy and cheap like a Pilot Cockpit seat.
