I was lucky enough to hear this man multiple times at my little Georgia elementary school. I have never forgotten the chorus of this song, or his love for animals and the swamp. Just showed this video to my husband who grew up in Pennsylvania and he is jealous that he never got the chance to have this hero be a part of his childhood. Now I'm going to go show it to my 7 year old. You're a good Man, Okefenokee Joe!

This takes me back to 2nd grade at Hilliard, Florida. Okefenokee Joe came to my school and played this song at the auditorium and it has stuck with me since then. Oh, how i have missed the gator country, my home. I will never forget Joe.

In my new autobiography entitled, "Swampwise", (What else could I name it?), there's a long chapter about my little friend "Swampy"! One about "Skeeter", my tiny calico cat, and a whole lot about what I learned from and about the wild animals that inhabit the Okefenokee Swamp! The bear, the deer, the alligators, the snakes, and all the wild animals so generously shared so many of their secrets with me. So I decided to share all those secrets with the rest of the world! Find the book, along with my other books and songs at www.okefenokeejoe.com!

He is really Dick Flood. Along time ago in the 70"s He stole my band gig at Ft. Benning, Ga. He showed up in a ford van and was called Dick Flood and the Floodlights. No hard feelings. He taught me a lesson about getting a deposit to secure my gigs. I was probably 16 and it broke my heart.

Dick has some great tails, this story and song about his dog and cat shows compassion for his four footed friends, and the way he tells the story you just have to listen. Like a lot of other people l did meet
him briefly in the late sixties at a benefit show in Virginia Beach that he and his band “The Pathfinders”
did and I was on the show that day.
