I don’t think she was saying Lori didn’t or wasn’t responsible. What I got from it was that Lori doesn’t think she actually killed anyone. Like her delusions tell her she killed demons and freed her children… Sure that’s still cold blooded murder and I hate her for it, but Chad knew there was no such things. He knew he wasn’t talking to dead people. He knew he wasn’t some chosen being and could tell light and dark. He knew he was targeting her kids and only her kids.

Lori wasn't delusional when she was telling Charles to give all of her family money and Lori wasn't delusional when she isolated Charles and was lying about his character and all of you believed it, stopped talking to him completely but it didn't stopped y'all from Charles continuing to pay y'all's bills. Stop it. Stop defending your horrible sister, Lori isolated her children by choice, Lori went to Chad by choice, she wasn't isolated like Tammy was by Chad.

In all due respect to Summer with whom I hold the deepest empathy, my thoughts are if it was Chad being the sole leader of all of this then how would explain the shady death of Joseph Ryan? If I have the facts correct, Lori and Alex had threats against him, Alex assulted him with a taser, as well as their going into his home to get family photos while he lay unalive in the bedroom...??? If that is true then L &A started this behavior before Chad came on the scene.

Listening to this . I think Summer is in denial. Long before Lorie met Chad other people in her family died. Joe Ryan Charles and let’s look at her sister who died years ago… Melani’s mother. It’s too coincidental. Two psychopaths met each other and destroyed the lives of so many people. Not to say that Lori doesn’t have a delusional disorder and Chad preyed on that. But she is a bad as Chad. And was before she met him. That’s my opinion. Thank you for doing this interview and for all you have done to cover this case with knowledge and empathy.

I love you Nate. But it was all I could do to listen to this lady. I don’t believe half of this. The first interview is still in my mind. She’s just not believable. She has answers to every little thing. Totally rehearsed- like she’s had 4 yrs to memorize it. Just my opinion for what it’s even worth. I just can’t.
If Summer & family would have taken Charles seriously when he tried to get Lori help for her “delusions” instead of vilifying him then perhaps outcomes could have been changed.
Lori needed to be involuntarily committed to a mental institution the moment she referred to her husband Charles as "Ned" - this could have all been avoided had law enforcement and the court system listened to Charles.
She seems like she isn’t fully being honest- maybe not even with herself. Lori wasn’t changed by Chad. They found each other and fed one another’s delusion.
I can’t get on board with this interview because first of all Laurie knew that her children were dead. She was in Hawaii living it up. She knew where those kids were and for this woman to defend the person sister or not that took your niece and nephew away, there’s no way, I would not defend her. I wouldn’t even talk to Lori if that was my sister. Lori knows everything. She knows all about it.

Summer contradicts herself in this interview firstly saying they got rid of the kids , Alex and then NOPE they were not responsible for Alex’s death.
Why would she be at Crimecon when she should have been at court providing a victim’s impact statement for Tylee? I was really hoping you were going to ask why she wasn’t there, why none of the Coxes were there. I am assuming she restricted what questions could be asked?? Something is off with her and (most of) the Cox family in my opinion and my gut tells me she knows more. Plus, other comments stated here such as no pictures of Tylee or JJ in Alex’s memorial video that she created (pre kids’ discovery) and her possible involvement or post involvement in Charles’ murder add to that. I even thought something in that jail phone call seemed phony. And for such a private/secretive family, going to Crimecon to speak and give interviews seems like a such a disconnect for me.

She wasn't there because the prosecutors told her not to come, they already had Annie Cushing to speak for Tylee and they had soooo many impact statements already. She was ready to go but they told her not to.

Why would they tell her not to go? I find that hard to believe. Tammy had multiple family members speak for her.
I mean this in as kind of a way as possible, but when she said “I know what’s real and what’s not” regarding her family, I grimaced. I don’t think you do. That’s what we’ve all learned from this; no matter how well you think you know people, you can be completely wrong.
I think blaming it all on Chad is more of the delusion that seeps out of this family. Lori manipulated everybody her whole life and regardless of loris mental illness they are both responsible. Lori manipulated this whole family just admit it and you’ll all be a lot happier. You have to accept your sister and brother are killers. The earlier interview was horrible and yes I understand you had no reason to believe Lori would hurt her kids but the stuff you said about JJs service dog was just yuk to me. I don’t know I just get vibes from these people. I have sympathy for them but I also don’t understand them.

I'm pretty sympathetic but for some reason, I just feel that Summer knows more than she's willing to say. This interview left me half full, kind of like she stated what she felt would be acceptable to Nate. I think denial is a big problem here with the family. There's a lot of secrets that they are keeping. It's easier for Summer to think her sister is delusional instead dealing with the reality that she is a cold blooded killer along with her brother, Alex. There's not a "good mother" on the planet that would kill her own kids or have them killed. This family needs to realize Lori is partially responsible for her kids deaths. She was ready for them to be out of her life and proved it when Chad and her were in Hawaii looking for houses and stated they didn't have children. Excuses only paints this family with colors of dysfunction beyond the pale.

Totally agree! I think it's really difficult for Summer to admit that her sister is in fact part of this horrible crime. I believe in a way it's a coping mechanism to deal with the huge hearth ache and betrayal her sister did to her.

Summer knew Alex stayed over at Loris with a gun ,the night before they all knew Charles & Adam were coming to Speak with Lori about her delusions. Summer texted Lori that morning before Charles got there & said text me when it’s over. Next thing Adam didn’t show up, because his mom found out & was mad at his going to try to go against his sister to help Charles. So Charles went alone After trying to reach Adam & getting no answer. He was killed by Summers brother Alex and most likely her sister Lori as well.

I understand that Summer loves her sister and after having endured a nightmare, she requires grace and understanding; however, Summer needs to accept one day that her sister was never "an excellent mother". Excellent mothers do not falsely accuse their children's father of SA, murder their ex-husbands, poison their children for attention, etc.... Doctor's still don't know what was wrong with Tylee. Lori claimed pancreatitis, but evidently that wasn't accurate. Lori dumping men and getting new men is not the acts of excellent mothers either, sorry. Lori bitterly resented her children and used them all, including Colby, to her benefit wherever and whenever possible.
@@franceshaypenny8481 Doctors who cared for Tylee noted "possible manchausen by proxy syndrome" on her chart. Knowing what we now know about Lori, how probable was it that all of Tylee's suffering was directly caused by Lori poisoning her?

One of the biggest questions I have for the Coxes is why they never gave Charles a fair hearing after Lorrie started scape-goating him. Its not like they didn't know him or have a relationship with him. It seems like, other than the oldest brother, they just cut him completely. Including Codey, who went with his mother the day after his death and looted his apartment, stealing his watches, etc.

Lori was telling Chad, directly or indirectly, what she wanted, eg. ''Is JJ at zero yet?'' If Lori hadn't wanted Charles, Tammy, Brandon, Tylee and JJ dead - Chad would never have wanted them dead either. If Lori was happy, he was too, because that meant Lori approved of him and would offer him her body as reward. The ''killing for life insurance'' motif was a favored tact of Lori's even before she met Chad. Lori even had Chad raise Tammy's policy amount. Remember, Alex tried to kill Joe Ryan? Chad was nowhere in the picture then. Chad didn't order that, Lori did. Lori smeared Joe Ryan and sent him to an early grave, directly or indirectly. If you want social security or insurance money, death has to happen; not divorce - death. Cad provided a religious justification for the things Lori already wanted very badly. So Lori chooses the 'delusion' in order to protect herself from holding herself accountable. So this is a case of 'Folie au deux' (The folly of two), where the two together provide the synergistic effect.
That’s what I believe too. Laurie wanted begged those children be gone and for the insurance. Eew the two so horribly sick.

Would Summer have felt the same had Lori been sentenced to death? That question wasn't asked and answered. I have absolutely NO RESPECT for Summer. Lori should have been sentenced to death! Don't forget Lori and Alex more than likely killed not only Charles, but Joseph Ryan. Joseph was before Chad, so what's Lori and Summer's excuse for that. I think the feeling of the prosecution for not considering Lori for the direct murder of her kids and giving her the death sentence is because if the jury didn't agree with this, it could lessen their chances of the same for Chad as his trial came later. At least there was more evidence with Chad given JJ, Tylee and Tammy's bodies were all found on his property.
I think if Lori got the death penalty, Summer would be saying the eact same thing as now.. I can’t see how that would change anything, what I DO think would change Summers point of view is if they were her own kids that were murdered..

From my understanding, when Lori was in TX, social services had her games figured out. She was not a good mother.
Lori was likely manipulating a younger Tylee likely making her sick for the attention Lori got. She made Tylee give the majority of care for JJ. Lori was very manipulative of her children. She abandoned JJ. Left him with Charles for a period of time then took him back.
It's all so horrific & sad.

@@aprilstorm Joe was fighting for years in court for custody of Tylee. Lori tried to play games with the court ordered evaluation of Lori's allegations of SA. Social services finally saw her manipulation and lies when Tylee was little. Tylee told them Lori had told her what stories to tell. Lori was caught so she had Alex attack Joe in the parking lot after the hearing. She played the same game with Colby and Charles.
@@aprilstormoh yes there was an investigation done on the allegations of Joe molesting Colby They wanted to take the mattress to do a DNA test to see if there was evidence to back up the accusations and Lori refused to cooperate. All the accusations about Joe were totally fabricated in my opinion and there was no evidence that he was molesting the children like Lori claims. If they were molested it wasn't by Joe.

It is easy to put the blame entirely on Chad as the ring leader. Summer’s two siblings killed her brother-in-law, her niece, and her nephew. The law says each person in a conspiracy is equally guilty. If not for prosecution missing some evidence timelines, Lori would also be on death row. Sorry, Summer, Lori is pure evil and you might have been next on the hit list.
I have tremendously conflicted feeling about Summer’s interview. Sometimes I think she is earnest, other times, I believe her answers are contrived. She definitely was a follower of some of Lori’s beliefs and character assassinations against Joe and Charles.
All of those actions are ACTS, Lori and Chad knew the difference between good and bad.
This woman is still in denial and blames it all on Chad when she's really dismissing the involvement of Lori, Alex and even Melaniece. She's still excusing her "sister"..... 🙄🙄🙄🙄
She did not excuse her actions and specifically said she holds Lori accountable. She is merely acknowledging that Lori is mentally ill which she is as was evident by her hospitalizations before her trail and which her lawyers had wanted her to try to use but like most mentally ill people Lori thinks she is perfectly normal. It’s is strange wording that was used about the oldest sister who died, she had diabetes & perhaps anorexia, she didn’t want to take insulin, wanted to treat it with dietary changes. It was said about her ,she suffered so much she was better off not living . That was said in different ways but again she didn’t have a terminal illness ,if managed she could’ve lived a very long life. It’s all the natural healing stuff ,I think sometimes it’s better to use a proven medication before we write someone off.

If Alex was still alive, Lori would be on death row too and Alex Life in prison for testifying against Chad and Lori as a plea deal. Also what I get from both cases is that the kids were tortured before being killed. Shades dp sentence is pure justice but will never be enough what those kids went through. It's a good thing he will be locked up 23 hrs a day.
Thanks Nate amazing as per usual. The reality is you can blame mental illness for many things. But saying she wasn't manipulating just as Chad was is a delusion in its self. The fact she thought she knew where they were is BS in my opinion. She had said at her trial she talked to them from the other side. So she knew they were dead. I will always think she holds far more blame than Chad. She was their mother! Her only job was to protect them and she failed and caused their murders. She show zero remorse or sadness during her trial. How could she look at those pictures and not just break down? smh I am glad they can't do this to anyone else.
Besides zero remorse, having a good time socializing with her attorneys or the worse part, that clip of her in courts laughing hysterically.. they may call that their “god”, they can call it anything they want but they serve satan..

When it came out in rural that he had used the married in another lifetime line on a diff women I knew it was Chad.

Summer is devious and extremely suspicious imo. Her words and narratives are carefully thought out, scripted and self serving.
Lori was never a good mother to JJ and Tylee, that was a fact detailed by numerous people.
Heather Daybell gives very specific accounts of Lori's behaviour as a parent, and sites many examples where she just didn't meet the basic standards as a parent.
Summer was a follower and supporter of Lori until all the evidence was exposed, then Summer conveniently shifted her position out of the need for self preservation and damage control to herself. Summer is now the same person that she was when defending Lori, that entire family is the same with the exception of Adam imo.
Narcissists, sociopaths and psychopaths are NEVER GOOD PARENTS

I don’t feel sorry for Summer after watching this case . Lori was a narcissist and had problems for years married four times. I can’t believe how that family treated Charles and his concerns about Lori and the children and he and the children lost their lives.

Great interview!! Thanks to Summer for sharing her thoughts and feelings. I do think that Lori and Chad were both equally guilty, but I understand that Summer is a bit biased towards her sister and wants to see Chad as the master manipulator. But Chad’s whole history doesn’t point to being able to influence anyone outside of his immediate family.
Sorry, but no Summer Lori is faking it she is no victim of Chad . she is a greedy cold blooded killer just like your brother Alex was and Chad too she should of got the death penalty as well .she uses her pretty face and smile to get her manipulative ways to people . If you her family would of helped protect those Children and put a stop to her behavior like poor Charles tried to do .and you and your Mother both lied for her saying you talked to the children after they were already dead and buried .

Mental illness can change one’s outlook of life or personality rather they are in a state of fantasy in their head or hearing voices. i should know. I’m a caretaker of youngest 2 adult children with mental illness. They are not the same while growing up, however it’s an honor and privilege taking care of them. It’s taught me much patience.

I agree completely. My older sister suffers with Schizophrenia. I spent most of my childhood dealing with her illness. She is now 71. Believe me when they are in a psychotic episode it is very real to them. Even when they come back to reality they believe that whatever their episode was it was real and there is no convincing them otherwise.
@@maureennoble9932 I too have mental issues, but it’s clinical depression. I need my meds every day that is why I have empathy for my children. Whether people believe it or not, it is real. My counselor says it’s like any other illness like diabetes. It’s treatable and you can still have a good quality of life. Especially when there are love ones who will help and support you as a life-line. Thank you for sharing❤️🤗
Mental illness is truly one of the most misunderstood illnesses in that there are many who just don’t really believe what happens in the brain of a mentally ill person. Our family also has several members who have a variety of of mental illnesses including schizophrenia and I sometime get impatient and just expect them to act differently and I constantly have to tell myself to stop and acknowledge that they have an illness just like any other illness. I feel deeply for Lori’s family and wish peace and healing for them.
Thank you - yes I do the same with my sister at times. I get inpatient and expect her to understand and be “normal” and honestly for the most part as long as she is on meds she is ok. But there has been times when she doesn’t take her meds and it can become a nightmare and it’s so hard because she is such a BEAUTIFUL soul and honestly she believes everything and then blames me for the consequences. Her dr warned me that once she’s stable she will not remember her psychosis. And she will blame be for her situations. And this has been my experience off and on my whole life but I know the truth and I don’t hold it against her. My sister is such a beautiful soul and this is what I hold on to- the fact that who she really is an amazing beautiful soul. She taught me so much when we were kids. She was the most popular and beautiful at school. Always took the new kid or kid with issues under her wing. Never let anyone pick on them. And she loved animals. She would bring home strays and hide them in my bedroom because my parents wouldn’t suspect me! She taught me so much and this is what I hold on to when I see her now. I try to focus on who she really is. I believe this is what Sumner is trying to do and of course it does not take away the horrible crimes that her sister has done. And I believe she understands that Lori needs to be in prison for life etc but this does not mean that the Love is no longer there between them.

My daughter (only daughter out of 4 boys) is too a beautiful soul. She will be 32 this year. She too has struggled with schizophrenia. I’ve learned there are a few levels of schizophrenia and hers is the “Catatonic” schizophrenia. She has also struggled taking her meds so she takes shots once a month. It is helping her thank goodness. There are groups out there for care-givers for support. I haven’t yet needed it yet, but the older I get, I’m glad there are support groups and help out there for us all if needed. My husband and I have made a trust for are 2 disabled (mental illness) kids so if anything happens to us, they will be looked after. Just trying to prepare for our kids future when we are not around to help anyone.

Thanks for the interview Nate, I think Summer is like Chads children, blaming the other party for these heinous acts. I guess it’s easier to do that then understand that they both have 100% culpability in what happened. They were a perfect storm of evil joined together.

No one listened to Charles. Not just summer. No one. That doesn’t make them culpable in his murder! Lori told everyone Charles was the crazy one and that it was him who had the affair. She told everyone to ignore his calls and emails and unfortunately they all did except for Adam. Adam addresses all of this on the podcast (and RUclips) silver linings. Please don’t spread rumors, this poor family has been through enough.

Hi rOnda nice to see you. You're way more polite than I could be knowing what we know about Summer. She's another person that stayed silent knowing Lori was going to kill Charles. She already was fully aware Joe was assaulted by Alex who should have been charged with attempted murder The probably got Alex off with Charles hiring a expensive attorney to get him off. It actually was reduced down to a misdemeanor and he only served 3 months and the county jail while he made death threats against Joe continuously.
I would like to see the court documents and everything that happened with the assault on Joe and how Alex got away with it.

I cannot imagine having to believe that someone I knew and loved could do the horrible things that chad and lori. And whoever else did. I think summer is coping and doing what she can. I think that people are very hard on her. It bothers me that so many are quick to judge these people when we can't even begin to know what they have gone through. It's like the drunks at a bar calling a pro football a loser for dropping a ball when they can barely get off the chair themselves . I feel bad for all the families, they are being judged for what they did or didn't do because 2 adult psychopaths committed the most horrendous crimes one could not even conceive.

I liked hearing from Summer. Her phone call they played in court was gut-wrenching. I empathize with the position she was in, not even being able to fathom that something so horrendous had taken place- her mind not even being able to go there. No one wants to think their fam member could do such a thing.
Please let Summer know I hope she continues to do well and heal and hope she's able to move on to a place where this isn't soul-crushing on a constant basis. And tell her thank you for taking the time to do this interview. I wish her well. ❤
