  • Rep. Kevin McCarthy blamed Democrats for the near-government shutdown in his "Face the Nation" interview on Sunday, saying "Democrats tried to do everything they can, not to let it pass." McCarthy: Yeah it was actually the Dems fault for the Government almost shutting down, even more of them voted for the stopgap than my members.
McCarthy later: Why didn’t the Democrats save me?

I'm not defending McCarthy or blaming dems for holding his past actions in contempt, merely pointing out that sometimes there's a "poverty of imagination" re how much worse things could get (choosing least of multiple "evils"). In "the before times", ousting an unacceptable political leader would open that position for a better replacement, and ousting McCarthy would be the right thing to do. Alas, I fear that Jordan (or an interim Trump ... w/his trials possibly deferred) will be far more dangerous.
