Seems it's getting more and more cheap and convenient to record at home. I'm a recent convert to the two notes torpedo, it's been an absolute godsend in getting me the sounds I want without being intrusive in the house or to neighbors and I've been getting the best tones I've ever had so I'm all for things like these lower cost units that give you tones like this. Absolutely makes the home recording process so much more fluid and higher fidelity rate out the gate. Recording with mics is still great and all but I think you really need to put a lot more consideration into your setup to get the most out of them.
Very Cool, Shane, Thankyou. Have only got into pedals in past few years but Probably with hindsight wish I had just gone single multi-fx as this sounds so awesome. I still enjoy the flexibility to use/stack different effects ...... and just love trying different effect pedals. Have found some awesome Budget individual pedals that have enhanced my playing, and made guitar playing so more fun. Cheers
A few cons. It's so small you can easily click the parameter knob while using the expression/wah pedal. The mid and high gain amps and effects are noisy (at least on mine. The noise gate opens too slowly and fades in the attack of your first note. It's great for practice but I can't recommend it for live performance or recording EDIT: I updated the firmware and now the noise gate works perfectly and nois is no longer a problem!
I'm seriously considering a Line 6 M5 but this could change my thinking. In fact it could change my mind about a couple of pedals. They're all in this one! Awesome video. Thanks for sharing
my first thoughts were that it might be a legit successor to the Zoom MS series while Zoom stagnates. if Sonicake release one with stereo input I’d probably buy right away, but won’t get my hopes up. for most people that’s a non-issue and all these patches sound great.
@@shanewalton8888 any multiFX with IR-loading will tend to sound better than a multiFX with the old trick of using a preset filter/EQ curve as a “cab sim.” AFAIK it seems like zoom is still doing the latter because it more or less worked well enough in their budget units for like 30 years since the 9### series to sell tons (while Tech21 also succeeded using the analog version in the SansAmp line). times change and companies don’t always adapt well enough.
This looks and sounds a lot like the Valeton GP100. It seems a lot of the same names for the cabs and effects with only a few exceptions. Probably the same processing with a little different softwar.
Great demo. And it sounds pretty good too. This modeler seems to run a similar modeling engine as the Hotone Ampero 1st gen which based on my experience is among the best of the mid-low tier modelers. My Ampero plugged in the FX return is just as good as my tube preamps... If the Sonicake runs the same code, it should be an epic deal!
Nice review - I've just got my hands on the Matribox II but there doesn't appear to be an on/off switch. Does the Matribox you reviewed here have one? If not, seems a strange omission from an otherwise great pedal.
Thank you for an amazing video! I have a question. I have to Focusrite Solo 3rd Gen. This allows me to play a music from a Mac and play Bass guitar. Both Mac and bass is connected to the Focusrite. However, when I use Matribox, I can hear the bass but not the music that I play from Mac. Am I doing something wrong here?
Thefirst thing I learned watching this video was that you play one mean ass guitar ,I can clearly see if you turn loose and tear into that guitar you would burn the house down, dose the software come with that matrix box for the computer or is that something I have to get else where.GREAT VIDEO.
Hi mate! Thanks for the kind words. It's been fun getting back on guitar after a month or so off with the arm issue. The software is free and I put a link in the description so you can find it easily. This is a really great value unit. :)
Very nice, for the price. For the past 12 years I have been using a Fender Mustang III V1. The amp can do more than I have time to figure out. I have 3 or 4 presets that I go to. The problem is when I need to tweak something I need to go to the amp and fiddle with a mono colored tiny menu screen. I really like the Fender Tone Master but in an Obiden economy I can barely feed my cat. However, this thing is obtainable and useful for making demos. Does it have Bluetooth?
100%. It's great. I might put a pack of tones together for this. After filming I got one of the best clean tones I've ever recorded directly to the computer.
if you stand on top of the expression pedal and put all your weight on it and stomp really hard on the toe section of the expression pedal sometimes its just rrreeeeaaaalllllyyyy stiff the first couple times to activate it.
Hi. Thanks for posting this review. I am impressed and went as far as to load the pedal into my shopping cart. But I am waiting to find out if you can get the manufacturer to address the issue you mentioned with the pedal function, as I'd like to complete my order. But I don't want to buy the pedal with bugs, right out of the box. Please it me know if you solve the problem. Thanks again. Shalom/gw

you have to really stomp hard the first couple times if its anything like the valentin GP I had a hard time activating it at first but once you realize that you literally just have to put all your weight and like bounce on the toe of the expression pedal and it will activate and you should be able to see it light up on the screen when you do it properly
I just got one of these. It cuts out in some settings. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm wondering if I need to adjust settings to fix the problem or it should be returned.
I have this thing and I mess with it a little bit but I don’t have a computer. I use just through my practice amp. It’s not as cool as if I had a computer with amp options but it’s really fun, ohh and if I didn’t suck at guitar it seems super fun too
You don't need a computer to get to amp options. I use this like you do, into a practice amp. You need to learn how to navigate through the options. No directions come with it to navigate it.
Matribox is not bad device for what it cost, but here are my questions to developer, that I wrote couple of times to support and never got any answer… 1. Very (extremely) low preset volume even on 100% on my headphones. Any chance to improve it with firmware update? I have NUX MG30 and my headphones are already very loud at 35-40%, with Matribox it has to be occasional up to 99% and some of them still need more like in case of AC Piezo et. 2. Looper. Any chance to implement most important looper feature, “Autostart”? Normally, after push recording button, looper start recording only when it senses guitar signal. At the moment Matribox looper starts recording immediately after button pushed, making looper function almost unusable. Can you improve it by adding autostart feature? It is very very important to have, as believe me, 90% of new guitar players going to have difficulty to use looper. 3. Drum patterns… it is a joke to listen “metal1” pattern…) It is like soundtrack from cartoon movie, but in no way metal pattern. Maybe you can rework this part as well for next update? 4. On my unit I read firmware 1.0.3, on webpage I downloaded software for v1.0.2, but on user manual it stays v1.0.4 Where can I download firmware 1.0.4? 5. Any chance to add global EQ in the next firmware update, to be able to increase volume or increase/reduce some particular frequencies for all presets at the same time? 6. Any chance to add Hi Cut and Low Cut option additional to volume for the CAB block including uploaded IRs, in the next firmware update, as it helps a lot? 7. If more presice 10 band EQ could be added? At the moment we have only one, very limited EQ in the EQ block… 8. On some presets or with particular amp-cab configurations I am getting very strong clipping effect (example BogXT Blue with Bog4x12) Even very decent increase in volume gives this effect and makes such combination almost unusable at normal volume.
Totally agreed. I get around the clipping by tweaking the global in/out but that decreases the master volume by much. The drum patterns: oh my Lord..reminds me an old Atari game..they MUST do an update for this travesty(Zoom G3, G5 B1Four patterns are way better.)..and the drum patterns cannot be synced with a loop..still, a good unit for the price imho.
You had some effect locked on through everything ,and it made for a very small variation between presets- basically they all sounded the same from this end with what sounded like a gated room reverb reverberating all the high end noise, causing some presets to sound too bright. An easier way is to set up the basic amp and cab dry, then add reverb, delay, and or modulation to a clean and crunch and lead sounds. Maybe it was unintentional, but it brought out the worst in some tones by effecting the inherent noise floor. Anyway, nice playing as usual and looks like an interesting but of gear to risk only a small amount on. I wonder how you would rate it compared to the NU-X equivalent, which I seem to remember cost a bit more.
I ran through about 25 patches that didn't have the dirt pedals on. In the quick tutorial part, I was showcasing more about how it works than anything else. Rock on
I'm having trouble hearing any difference between all those high-gain settings- they just sound the same- seriously! They sound like the same amp with a few eq tweaks and some effect variation. Maybe that's just the presets, and maybe it's possible to sculpt your own sounds out of them, but you shouldn't have to. Maybe they saved money by not bothering to make sny good presets?
It’s just a showcase of how the app works there was a dirt pedal on which I probably should have turned off. It’s just an example of the app functionality
The reason I ask is I'd rather save the little money I have for something I will be glad I spent the money on. It's hard to get physical access to a line-up of these devices where I live.
There is a problem. All your main demos are all the same, all heavy metal, all lacking dynamics. But you are not demonstrating the drums because you can't. The drums are full of fills. Fills that interfere with the beat and the tempo of natural rhythm. So what do you have on this BOX that isn't heavy metal? Not much, and the drums are no good, so I got screwed and overpaid for this product. Plain and simple. Until the drums are editable, there will be no good use of this box for me; because, I have all those features on my TC Helicon Voice Live Plus. This Matribox had a set of drum kits, and that was the lure, but a lure it was, and not usable; Because of the ever interrupting fills that break the rhythm.
