Gary. This vid was so cool. Quick docking briefings are tough but you did a great job. Lucky you no quartering winds, no repeat trys, no boat traffic. Do another one showing the departure with a light wind. Good thing I wasn’t there. You’d never been able to get your lunch with my hours of questions. Thanks again.
Great stuff! I'm an inactive pilot (disabled), but love living vicariously through your videos. Keep the content coming. And, savor every moment--you rarely know when a flight will be your last...
That's a great video. Real world parking (on quite a high dock). Well done. Not easy. Good thing it was quiet..... Would love to see more docking - I can sail & I can fly, but docking an Icon is quite a skilled operation. Thanks & Happy New Year. Have a great 2023.
Wow. You just showed up in my recommended videos. I've been looking at the A5 for some years now. I'm not yet a pilot, but would like to be. We are moving to Seguin, TX from NH in a couple months and saw your name on the Icon website, as I was gathering info in order to get my wife also obsessed with the idea of owning one of these planes. I really hope our paths cross down there, I am at least now a subscriber!
The ICON seems to be a lot more easily manoeuvred than a GLOT plane - spent some time in Beaver and Caravan floatplanes between Rose Bay (Sydney) and Newcastle, and they seemed much more challenging. The docking reminds me of the ungainly docking of rowing sculls - got to get it lined up way out from the pontoon. Very enjoyable video
I just wanted to say thank you for time and kindness, I meet you at the Detroit Auto Show a couple of days ago. I appreciate you taking time to talk to me. This is going to be my next BIG PURCHASE!!! Thank you again for the conversation I can't wait to see the trailer
Thank you so much for this video. I'm sure it takes a ton of work, and concentration! I'm not a pilot, but in flight Sim this is my favorite plane to fly, and explore with. Have subbed, etc. and I look forward to more video adventures! 😃
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I couldn't help but notice the P-38 on the wall behind you. My late father was a P-38 pilot at the very end of WWII. He flew for the rest of his life, until a stroke ended his career.
Not even close, it's a light sport aircraft. It's range is listed as 421 miles, there's a need for much longer range to get to fuel when over water. Not to mention that that is not a craft you'd want to fly in poor weather conditions. I flew in one once and it's a fun little craft, with an emphasis on fun rather than usability.
Hey dude, the video is very good. It's like I flew with you. I hope I can buy an A5 too. This is my biggest dream. We are waiting for new videos. You are super.
Video confirms that the Icon is impractical for normal docking. A high wing float plane can dock without a pre-drilled attendant. The wing easily clears dock. AND you can nose straight in because float tips have rubber bumpers. BTW, that low wing clearnce of dock makes entire dock useless to any one else and the wake of a passing boat will damage or destroy your wing. Get a Super Cub.
@@GaryJamesKnight No need. Let us just stipulate that you are more athletic than I. Anyway, no float plane or amphib can assure certainty in docking given wind, waves, current and idiots. For example, 15 yrs ago i was fuelling at the Greenville fly-in and suddenly found some fool standing on the float of a Citabria whose engine was off but its trajectory was clearly going to wreck the wing of my SuperCub. There was nothing for it but dive into the water and grab his float. Saved my wing but not my cell phone. And once in Halifax NS i was getting fuel at the quay when a guy in the stern of a huge rusty trawler told me that if i didn’t move my f……ng plane in two minutes they would back over it. Adventure comes in great variety.
When your own employees, crash or die on a very "safe" plane, something is very wrong at the company level, also very heavy for 100hp, they kept the engine to make some bucks but increased the fuselage weight.
I appreciate the comments because it boosts the algorithm but you can’t say stuff like that without holding us to a different standard than every other manufacturer in our category. It’s why we sell more light sport amphibious airplanes than anyone. Also a 152 is heavier and has the same horsepower and we’re airborne in less than 800’ at max takeoff weight so I disagree with your assessment that it’s too heavy.
I was at Pompan Beach, Fla when I saw one fly by. I got super excited and my friend didn't know why. I have MSFS 2020 and this was the first plane I used to fly around. I wanted the pilot to land so badly so I could get a closer look at it. I would love to own one!!

Wooooooow absolutely amazing. What an advertisement for this incredible plane. Thank you keep up the great videos 😎👌👏👏👏👏
Appreciate the encouragement brother!!
Wish you would’ve showed the entire docking process, what it looked like after and those guys reactions. Good video though
It’s so tough to teach and exportation and do it all at the same time. Working with what I got but I’ll try to do better

Love the A5 in MS flight sim 2020. It's such a fun little plane to cruise with. I am curious how accurate the flying is to real life.
Hi. Great video. Love your other videos too. Learning a lot.

Man you're getting brave now....hahaha!
Haha! Only did it because there were no boats
Could a round the world navigation be achieved with the Icon 5 ? If so, how come nobody has attempted to do so, as far as I know ! Such a great craft.

@@davesaub6562 Yes I get that, I had to ask the question to get an answer, thankfully you did.
How do you do all that docking etc. by yourself?
Handling the rudders while also being outside on the dock to catch the plane etc. 🤔
I’ve docked by myself exactly once, every other time I have someone else for all the reasons that you just listed
So cool

Thanks for the encouragement man, more coming soon!!!
I was wondering, in order to do these do you have to get like ALOT of permission? Or can you just use free will?
Very very very few rules related to this, generally speaking, boat rules on the water, plane rules in the air. Be safe, use common sense.
@@GaryJamesKnight that makes perfect sense, didn’t realize.
Nice docking!
It’s a bit tricky but we’ve got it figured out 😂

Did Icon back off on those insane sales terms I heard about a while back, or are they still on a slow glide to financial faillure?
Well, we’re outselling every other light sport amphibious manufacturer, so if we’re in trouble so is everyone 🤷♂️

12:05 how do you maneuver around other watercraft?
There is a water rudder that allows you to steer the plane in the water
$370,000 and Maintenance costs are expensive. Need to hit that lottery to afford it.
Would 1500 ft lake be enough to take off and land? Many thanks
Generally speaking yes
Why do you sit in the co-pilot seat? Just to stick with your right?
At this point because I’m used to it, but originally because I like to give the person I’m flying the experience of the pilot.
