A special thanks to Jack Swarbrick for his visionary thinking, holding his own in the nest of vipers called conference discussions for the 12-team playoff, and setting ND up for a smooth transition for an awesome new AD. It was a wonder year for all of us lifelong fans who have watched year in and out regardless of the outcome and supported our beloved Irish. As a 60-plus-year fan, all there is left to say is "love thee, Notre Dame."
With all the negativity and doubt after the NIU loss, the team answered the bell every weekend. So proud of them. Fans wanted to run Marcus Freeman out of town. Dude dug in deeper and got it done. Beyond proud of that brother! ND is playing for a Natty! GO IRISH ☘️
A win on Monday night would be so Gratifying! I was fortunate enough to see the last National Championship team and would love nothing more than to finally see another! Win or lose I’m grateful that Coach Freeman is leading the charge!
I’ve soaked in this entire year. So glad I’ve taken the time to enjoy the ride. I was born in 84 and really became a big fan in 93 when I went to my first game. I was hooked. I love what ND stands for and represents. These are such good kids. As I watch the championship game I will be with my Dad and win or lose will create a memory that will last for the rest of my life. Thank you for that gift. GO IRISH!
Loved your comment on being sure to take advantage of this week before the big game since these moments are being historically made. As a daughter of my Dad, Class of 50’, brother, Class of 76’ and my having graduated from SMC 85’ (Faust years), I am relishing in these past season and the days leading up to Monday!
Excellent show, indepth review of this year's Fighting Irish championship drive. A retrospective of Notre Dame football, since 1988, two major bowl victories, Sugar and Orange Bowl since the last Cotton Bowl win in 1994. Many parallels between this current Notre Dame team and the 1988 National Championship team. Excellent execution on offense, defense and special teams, performing the small details as efficiently as the big play attempts. The same confident feeling Lou Holtz radiated among his 1988 squad is present with Coach Freeman's team this year! Here Come the Irish!🏈☘️
Go Irish ☘️☘️ what an awesome season 👏 1 more to go! let's go get this 💪!!! What a championship would mean for me is everything 🙌 my dad is no longer with us and how much he would have loved this team and coach Freeman and staff !! I know the odds are stacked against us in this game but this team refuses to lose there's something about them i think they will get it done!!! Go Irish and God bless you 🙏 all
I am grateful for the NIU loss. After years of having my heart ripped from my chest by this team I finally completely detached my emotions from Notre Dame football. I can now watch their games without being completely emotionally engulfed. I am very happy for the Fighting Irish, and I'll be cheering them on next Monday. But win or lose Tuesday will be a new day. Go IRISH!
You are so right about the incredible accomplishments of the team. I was at the Orange Bowl, and that was an epic game in which the PSU side had a noise advantage. And winning the Sugar Bowl too!! Incredible year!!!
The pit in my stomach after the NIU loss was real. I was also calling for Steve Angeli during Miami Ohio game. That said, I am so happy I was wrong and Freeman stuck the course with Riley Leonard and this team.
Tony, the team works too hard for the football program not to address the biased officiating, even if addressed behind the scenes. The same official short spotted us constantly in both bowl games. At the end of the Orange bowl, the same guy looked crestfallen as the Jeter kick sailed through the uprights. We want this addressed behind the scenes. Mention it to Pete sometime when you are talking off air.
I am so grateful and thankful for where this team is. It is so hard to believe we are playing for the National Championship with so many players out and hurt. Notre Dame is playing the $20M roster that has been so talked about all year and they don't look to be dinged up much. I pray for an upset... we are so due but either way I love my Irish! Good Luck Team!
@@ZB_Snickers sure, but can’t neglect them dominating no 1 oregon and a tennessee team who sure wasn’t the best but still dominated the teams they’ve played up to this point. Second half vs texas was rough but
I agree, but I think the one distinction is OSU’s flawed game plan against Michigan. They appeared to me to be neglecting their speed on the outside and attempting to puff their chest by trying to beat Michigan in the trenches. This playoff I think you’ve seen OSU return to playing to their strengths. But overall, beating OSU will need to look a lot like it did for Michigan in 21, 22, and 23.
@ yep. gotta also remember we were 1 man short of beating them last year, both teams objectively weren’t as good, but we’ve made tremendous strides since then.
Terrific interview. It’s great to get Pete’s perspective. He’s settled in to his huge and difficult job quickly and effectively despite having a tough act to follow. I would have liked to hear his perspective on this seeming obsession in this playoff cycle with ND’s independent status. I find it odd and mildly offensive that media figures and even an opposing coach feel they have license to tell our university how to govern itself. Pete must be used to speaking to this privately with BCS and conf leaders, plus other ADs. So his current views in light of all this noise would be interesting to hear. p.s., should anyone be interested or James Franklin is reading this, Marcus Freeman is 39 yrs old! 😉😂
My wife will vouch for me, I didn’t think we were out. I chalked it up, injured QB and Field-goal kicker, it made sense to me. I was more disappointed that Coach too stubborn or just didn’t know and Riley too stubborn and didn’t tell them he really couldn’t go properly. It was another learning moment. I still thought they could go all the way, as I predicted. I thought they would loose one, just not that one. 100% truth!
I may fall of my knees with tears of joy. I barely remember the 88 championship. I didn’t truly become a fan until 92 snowbowl and from that game on, Die hard Subway guy!! As I text this, gets me a little. It’s only a game for most, for me, it’s been a life of passion
Notre Dame can win this game, but it will take EVERYTHING to pull it off. Leonard will have to play like a GOAT and the front 7 will have to win the trenches. Then, maybe they can keep up and hope Ohio State comes out and doesn't play their best. If they do, the game will be theirs.
I disagree that if Ohio State plays well that it's "theirs". The rosters are mostly equal to the first time(we showed that in 2023 when we had them beat minus 2 coaching blinders at the end). The only major talent difference is their WRs...but, coverage is NDs strength, and I trust Golden to really get after Will Howard. Day's (and Chip Kelly) immature ego, like Franklin, can be a factor in ND winning, too...Freeman and Co have out coached everyone so far, let's see if they can continue.
I thought the shoes were cool but what was under them was interesting... His left shoe had the Jolly Rodger. I could not figure out what was under the right shoe. If anyone knows, please let me know. So I did something crazy, I googled it and found his shoes, clothes, etc., are custom made by Under Armour just for him.

Thank you for everything Pete, this wouldn't be possible without you! Really appreciate the renewed vigor & focus on the football team! 🙏🏻🇺🇸☘️💪🏻
Pete is the perfect guy to be leading ND Athletics now #GoIrish

What a fantastic first year as AD! Great job assembling/keeping the coaching staff together. The future at ND is incredibly bright!
Am 84 and been waiting since 1988 for this ☘️CHAMPIONSHIP !!! If there is a team of DESTINY, NOTRE DAME IS IT!!!💕☘️

This is a OSU team that got beat by a running team and good defensive scheme. Do exactly what Michigan did.
yep. michigan gave us the blueprint. just follow it.
One score game vs Nebraska, Michigan, Penn St, and almost Texas. Just play our game

The amount of negatives, and the trolls and small amount of boo birds that are always half empty, got way to much noise

Does OSU win on paper or on the real field? ND, with better coaching and TEAM spirit and winning the turnover battle , wins 31 to 27

Pete!!!! We need shoe detes!!! 🤣
What shoes are you wearing Pete? Stylish, need some of those...
They are actually G/fore golf shoes lol
@shawnroberts1016 awesome thank you! I even did an image search and nothing came up
The 2012 team played its heart out. It deserved much better head coach.
Ask Pete what brand of shoes those are... Let us know on the next show.
They are actually G/fore golf shoes lol
Our lady queen of victory pray for us
ND 21-17🎇🎆🧨
I thought the shoes were cool but what was under them was interesting...

If anyone knows, please let me know.

G/fore golf shoes
Not sure how ND is going to put up enough points on OSU defense
If Michigan did it ND can do it
Pete seems to really get it, a lot more than Swarbrick. Appreciate having him as AD.
Trust Beyond Knowing, GO IRISH☘️
