Terry Gilliam received a special thanks in the closing credits because Tarantino attended a workshop where up-and-coming filmmakers could seek advice and mentoring from established screenwriters and directors. Terry Gilliam was the only one there who didn't dismiss Tarantino as an untrained hack and took him under his wing. Gilliam respected and admired Tarantino's love of cinema and could tell he was going to be a great director, so he imparted as much wisdom and advice as he could. Tarantino showed his gratitude with a special thanks.
Yes, you are right. And the story between them was based on Tarantino's insecurities as a creator on how to deal with the multiple disciplines he had to master in order to make a film. Gilliam suggested to him something like this: Just surrender yourself with talented people in all departments and make sure they understand your vision, and you will be fine. This encouraged Tarantino into making a movie by himself.
Mr white contradicts himself like four separate times. He gives advice to orange regarding interrogation tactics and he condones torture then he goes on to berate blonde over and over again about using the very same methods. Then he defends single women and waitresses in particular but remains hypocritical when they rob the lady's car then shoot her. Then he says don't shoot up the place but does so instantly in the alley way. He has double standards for everyone else.
Everyone always complains about Mr. White being stupid at the end of the film but most fans don't know that Mr. White was a seasoned Vietnam vet & watched alot of fellow soldiers die & bleed to death infront of him so seeing Mr. Orange being so much younger than him & bleeding to death , it pretty much gave Mr. White flashbacks of seeing his old comrades like that during the war hence his extreme empathy for Mr. Orange which unfortunately caused him to unintentionally over cloud his own judgement in the end!!!! This film has very detailed back stories that Quentin wrote for each character but unfortunately he didn't have a big enough budget to actually show everything & that's also why we never see the actual heist go down either but thank Harvey Keitel (Mr. White) for believing in Quintin enough to finance this entire film which basically gave Quentin Tarantino his chance in the business & everything we got later from him👍 If u want to learn more about each characters backstory, just buy the 10th anniversary DVD & go to the Special features & u can read Mr. Pink , Mr. Brown , Mr. White & Mr. Blondes complete back stories 👍 Mr. Pink is a seasoned criminal/stick up artist that grew up in the ghetto in a all black neighborhood & is extremely street smart!!!! Mr. Brown is a rapest & a sex addict hence his conversation at the beginning of the film & why he got shot in the forehead because it was basically like his karma for having such a sick mind!!!! Mr. White is a seasoned Vietnam vet , a professional stick up artist & very good with weapons hence why he was basically made the lead man for the entire jewel heist job by Joe & why hes so accurate with those duel handguns !!! Mr. Blonde is another career criminal but also a undercover serial killer that grew up spoiled in a mid - upper class family with both of his parents as a only child & never went hungry a day in his entire life & just like most sociopaths , he was a bed wetter , a fire starter & he loved to torture small animals as a child 💯 You're welcome 👍
And then Mr Blue was probably another career criminal who had some empathy for others like Mr White as demonstrated in the opening scene which is the only time he has dialogue when defending the waitresses unto Mr Pink's claim he doesn't tip as well as acting a bit disgusted when Mr Brown is talking about Madonna's song and its reference to big dicks. He might have got punished once and seen the bad ways in his actions that he signed up to this mission because who knows, he may have been willing to secretly condemn himself on purpose, letting himself get killed by others easily because he was secretly in despair! That's my theory at least. Not to mention, since we don't see him much, the actor Eddie Bunker playing Mr Blue in the film was a real life history criminal who then retired from crime to become an author and part-time actor which is why he's only got a small role in this film presumably and died soon after.
Then the Undercover Cop unlawfully shoots the civilian driver after getting gutshot as a carjacker. She shoots him with a Colt Detective Special likely in .38 Special.

Mr. Pink lives. You can hear him getting into a shootout after leaving, but even more faintly you can hear him surrendering and getting arrested shortly after that. My guess is he ran out of bullets.
You brought up Marcellus “Spivey” but better connection you missed is Gary Oldman’s character in True Romance, Drexl Spivey. TR was his first film, which he sold in order to get money to make RD. Another commenter also pointed out Alabama. Main character in TR and in the OG script, Clarence dies and Alabama stays in LA and ends up working with Mr White.
You are right. The coolest inter movie Connection It's definitely Mister White and Alabama from true romance. Also there is nothing to imply Buscemi does not escape with the diamonds. I always thought he did. Most of the things mentioned in this video are weak at best.
I have a whole fan theory and back story of how the vega brothers can also be related to Bill from Kill Bill and that uma thurman (beatrix) is actually the same character from pulp fiction after leaving marcelus
Hence he wasn't 100% on him. Which was why after the heist once knowing who everyone was except for him and he may have been baiting him so as to seek revenge against the police, he knew it had to be no other than him while the rest of the criminals were unsure or uninterested only in the case of Mr Blonde who only liked to kill people.
Marcellus Spivey in Reservoir dogs is interesting as the surname was then used in True Romance as Drexel Spivey and the first name obviously went into Pulp Fiction as Marcellus Wallace, Quentin with the little Easter eggs as seen throughout his movie's, you gotta love em ❤

Add to this the fact that Mr. White's former partner was referred to as "Bama", a female. Patricia Arquette's character in True Romance was Alabama, implying that Harvey's character was actually Cristian Slater's character from the other movie.
I've always thought that the background portions of the warehouse where you can see the caskets indicate the characters themselves. After Mr Blonde dies, one is knocked over. There is also one covered in the shipping paper for the majority of the film as if it's hiding beneath a "cover".
Agree. As someone who's tried his hand at writing, it can be a pain trying to come up with character names, product names etc. Think of one you really like? Sure, you'll use it again in the next thing you write - maybe with a slight modification. To think half of the characters in RD have relatives in other Tarantino films intentionally sounds like people are overthinking things a bit too much.
He created a world full of stories. As a writer he just sat around with all of them talking, just like his characters do. Everyone knows everyone else and tells their tales.
Tarantino has stated its all the same universe. Jack Rabbit Slims. Red Apple cigarettes. Big Khuna Burger. Though in this case the Mr Blonde and Marvin, were trying to get in character and Marvin really was in the trunk of the car. Madison drove down a back lane full of pot holes and went to a taco bell drive thru. There was no burger and fries.
Another detail about those bottles I've just seen. There are three pink ones and one white one on the left and three parallel to pink, orange ones on the right. This gives extra insight into the confidence of each member with Pink being a much more confident criminal than Mr White who at that moment actually cares more for Mr Orange than the heist, has officially befriended him and wants to convince everyone that he's not a rat or a snitch while Pink is suspicious of everyone on equal measure while remaining intelligent enough to not give anything of his personal life away to even White who he most interacts with and then trusts Blonde only for the sake of proffesionalism. This might also imply that Mr White isn't completely secure that killing others may be a good thing even if it's for the means of robbing which is the whole premise of his lifestyle and what he came to be which Pink doesn't doubt. Mr Orange likewise is working on the polar opposite side of them but amounts to the confidence Mr Pink has in being an undercover cop, which even though he got shot in the belly and is badly injured, he was still ready to rat them out disregarding his supposed connection or friendship to Mr White as demonstrated in the Mr Blonde scene later on once he shoots him after trying to murder the cop in the most brutal way then tells him to wait and be assured that by the time their criminal boss arrives, the police will be out there waiting for them. He only confesses to Larry once he's the only criminal alive remaining besides Pink who escaped and Larry is the only one to even fully care for him at that point that he had to admit to his supposed friend that he had been a cop and a rat all along.
When Mr. Pink is telling Mr. White how he survived by unloading his magazine into the cops, he has to load it realizing all he did was escape afterwards.
During the discussion of who is True Blue, Chris Penn is the only one wearing "blue" at the table as his jacket is blue and purple. Not _True Blue,_ but related to True Blue.
I absolutely believe that Mr Pink escaped and became a Buddy Holly impersonator. It probably wasn’t what Tarantino intended at the time, but the opportunity to cast Buscemi as a waiter as a form of karma must have been too funny to pass up on. Maybe Pink was scared and never could sell the diamonds. That’s the other thing - I don’t believe that the diamonds was what was in the briefcase in _Pulp Fiction._ Let alone not being remotely magical enough for that McGuffin, if the diamonds were so, what Vincent Vega was retrieving would essentially be something his brother died for. There was no sense of grief, or emotional heaviness at all, when he opened the briefcase, stared, and said “oh yeah we happy”.
Also, when Mr. White is speaking to Joe in the first half of the movie, he says "...Alabama, a good little thief...". This is likely a reference to Alabama from True Romance (which Tarantino wrote),
Mr. Pink doesn’t escape. If you turn up the volume real high in the very last seconds before the credits, you can hear the police outside telling him to put the hands on the dash of the car , Mr. Pink tells them , ‘don’t shoot I’ve been shot ‘ , you then hear two shots , before the cops storm into the warehouse. They must have shot him because if Mr Pink would have shot them , they wouldn’t have come into the warehouse.
pulp fiction is a prequel of reservoir dogs mr pink said in reservoir dogs that he used to work as a waiter , then in pulp fiction it is shown that he is a waiter
Mr Pink survives. The screenplay has a title card saying so - or at least that all but one of the men will be dead - but it was not used in the film itself
Joe saying it's a five man job isn't a mistake. Mr. Brown's job was just the driver. His role had nothing to do with the actual five man job Joe was talking about.
Whatever that is dangling from the host of this video’s wrist is highly annoying to me. It’s like those old phone cord type wristbands that people would keep a key on. It just bothers me and is due all of the unnecessary arm waving one must apparently do when on camera during a RUclips video.
Another fun fact not mentioned in this video, but the movie is actually loosely based on really old game, where characters, also named after colors, end up having an impostor among them!
Two things, First, Mr, White also says he made a lot of money working with "Alabama", a female crook. She turned up earlier in the Tarantino written "True Romance". The second is speculation. Was there a sexual relationship between White and Orange? Because they definitely have a very strong bond, yet the movie doesn't provide a lot of evidence of them spending a lot of time together.
It's more of a Mentor/Apprentice relationship imo, or maybe even a father/son relationship. Larry is considerably older than Freddie and there's scenes where he treats him like a kid, like dragging him by the arm away from Brown after the crash, combing his hair as he's bleeding out and the constant reassurance that he's gonna be ok.
Mr Orange wore a wedding ring. Second there's a certain comradery when working in a intense environment with a small group of people. Ultimately working alone, one man show is simple, but there's a bond where life and limb are at risk. The Juice as it were. Adrenaline.
The coolest inter movie Connection It's definitely Mister White and Alabama from true romance. He mentions her by name BAMA. Also there is nothing to imply Buscemi does not escape with the diamonds. I always thought he did. Most of the things mentioned in this video are weak at best.
Everyone respected joe and feared him to a point, but not mr white as he saw him more like an equal, even mr blonde who did time for him and everything still repected him more
I believe it's 5 guys because Mr Blonde wasn't part of the robbery. He's a hit man, and is only there as a reward for doing his time. I think that's why he's Mr Blonde and not a color, like the others
If you turn the sound up at the very end as Mr White is about to shoot Mr Orange you can hear Mr Pink get surrounded by all the cops and they are yelling “did you kill a cop” Mr Pink ends up taking the rap for everything and he’s the one with the bag in his hand when they catch him. So the Mr Pinks new job and diamonds theory’s are incorrect. I’m surprised more people don’t know about what happens to Pink but I’m also surprised you guys didn’t check or look up more info on this film.
Idk. Lady who defends herself and her property against thieves, definitely counts as a female character, and I would count it as a strong one too. Not a major character, but still counts. And we shouldn't be counting genders anyway. Good characters matter, not what's in their pants....Also there's female cops in the extended scenes.
I believe the "what's in the briefcase" question was finally solved when a fan guessed it, and Tarantino confirmed it, (as he said he would if someone ever figured it out,) as Marsellus Wallace's soul. (The extraction of which was the reason for the band-aid on the back of Wallace's neck.) As always thank you so very much for the video.
I read that he finally said it was Elvis gold jacket. That's why it glows that color. The same type of jacket that Val Kilmer wears as Elvis in True Romance
I appreciate all the folks suggesting I'm wrong. They could be correct; I've learned never to trust memory, especially an old one. However, (right or possibly wrong) what I remember is an interview where Tarantino said he'd said he'd wouldn't say unless someone guessed it right, and someone did.
@@sadie9728 Pink stashed the diamonds. Which might save pink from the gas chamber (before the switch to lethal injection). Not much in the way of living witnesses, thsnks to Mr Blonde. Now Pink could try to bargain for the diamonds in exchange for a life sentence. Marcelous's soul was a fan theory. Ving Rhames cut himself shaving his head.
I like how Mr Pink “doesn’t tip, doesn’t believe in it”. Then in Pulp Fiction he ends up a Sh&ty waiter who Vincent doesn’t want to tip.
Buscemi said in an interview that he thinks the waiter is mr pink keeping a low profile
That's Karma.

And Mr Orange ended up actually being in the MCU (Tim Roth)...
And Tarantino isn’t a fan of the MCU.
During the discussion of who is True Blue, Chris Penn is the only one wearing "blue" at the table as his jacket is blue and purple. Not _True Blue,_ but related to True Blue.
The track suit was Chris Penns own clothes.
The actors provided thier own wardrobe for the film.
You missed the Alabama reference with Mr. White when talking to Joe and its relationship to 'True Romance'.
U the man. Great video
i think i got more actual things i missed in the comment section than from the video,... thanks youtube!
Eddie during Madonna: he does make a remark about someone not knowing a song. “You don’t know _____ I don’t even listen to ____ and I know that song”
Is that why the door keeps swinging open in Hateful 8?
That man is a genius. Watch one hundred times and find something new
Mr Pink worked at McDonalds before the diamond heist, that’s why he doesn’t tip
pulp fiction is a prequel of reservoir dogs mr pink said in reservoir dogs that he used to work as a waiter , then in pulp fiction it is shown that he is a waiter
Mr Pink survives. The screenplay has a title card saying so - or at least that all but one of the men will be dead - but it was not used in the film itself
Mr pink survives if you play all the levels as a profesional rank
is the game canon
@@jabberwock6 to the game yeah, to the QTCU no
Mr. Pink knew Joe since he was a kid.
Mr. Orange is now a marvel character in She-Hulk
Favorite movie
there is a Reservoir Dogs Video game that fills in a lot of the gaps of the film. idk if it canon or not
Joe saying it's a five man job isn't a mistake. Mr. Brown's job was just the driver. His role had nothing to do with the actual five man job Joe was talking about.
Marcellus is supposed to be related to Drexel (Gary oldman in true romance)
On the 5 or 6 men confusion = maybe the driver doesn't count because he's not actually going inside of the building?
Whatever that is dangling from the host of this video’s wrist is highly annoying to me. It’s like those old phone cord type wristbands that people would keep a key on. It just bothers me and is due all of the unnecessary arm waving one must apparently do when on camera during a RUclips video.
What a lot of people don't notice is that all the characters are named after colours!
Uh…how could anyone miss that?
You’re joking, right?
A reference from the movie The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974).
@@lisaspikes4291 of course I'm joking
Another fun fact not mentioned in this video, but the movie is actually loosely based on really old game, where characters, also named after colors, end up having an impostor among them!
This was great
That if you pay then everyone else throws in for tip = was adopted by my friend group and stands to this very day.
I’m pretty sure that was a thing before Reservoir Dogs came out. Lots of people do this.
I didnt miss them but thanks for assuming.
Who killed nice guy eddie?
Adrenaline.
Drexl from True Romance was a Spivey
Of course Mr. Pink survived, he is Tony Soprano's cousin.
The warehouse scenes were filmed in an actual morgue, with bodies still in some of the rooms. It’s not a set
It was a coffin warehouse.
Are you daft ?
The coolest inter movie Connection It's definitely Mister White and Alabama from true romance. He mentions her by name BAMA. Also there is nothing to imply Buscemi does not escape with the diamonds. I always thought he did. Most of the things mentioned in this video are weak at best.
My guy look like Lac Miller 😂
I actually missed the bottles on the table, that was a good one.
Also, I noticed that there is a brown bottle next to the orange ones. Brown and Orange were the two that got shot during the heist!
Who names their children Vic and Vincent?
Theo parents Vernon and Veronica Vega
They mention a girl Alabama in the meeting & there was a girl in True Romance named Alabama.
"True Blue"?
They are discussing Like A Virgin.
Where does True Blue come into it?
Most of these are just recycled from your other video on Reservoir Dogs, there are so many reaches in this...you guys falling off
Mr pink would surely have surrendered immediately to police. He didn't seem like the blaze of glory type.
What about Alabama?
I like that play Little Green bag when I walk down the street sometimes when I got that extra good Stone going on.
Like it, but isn't he Mr. Blonde because the name 'Mr. Yellow' sounds like a coward?
Pink, Brown, White, Orange, Blue, Blonde. Doesn't Blonde seem out of place?
Why didn't Shawn Penn fire first
If you turn the sound up at the very end as Mr White is about to shoot Mr Orange you can hear Mr Pink get surrounded by all the cops and they are yelling “did you kill a cop” Mr Pink ends up taking the rap for everything and he’s the one with the bag in his hand when they catch him.
#1 was incredibly lame
You and 5 other guys...
Mr White and Mr Pink inspired the names of Walter White and Jesse Pinkman in Breaking Bad.
Is that true? How cool is that?!😆
I believe the "what's in the briefcase" question was finally solved when a fan guessed it, and Tarantino confirmed it, (as he said he would if someone ever figured it out,) as Marsellus Wallace's soul. (The extraction of which was the reason for the band-aid on the back of Wallace's neck.)
As always thank you so very much for the video.
I read that he finally said it was Elvis gold jacket. That's why it glows that color. The same type of jacket that Val Kilmer wears as Elvis in True Romance
Tarantino has never admitted what was In the briefcase.
