The JU06A does have a ton of annoying limitations (4 voices!), but I like the sound so much (and the tiny desk footprint), I'm keeping hold of mine. Anything with compact dimensions earns major points for me (provided it sounds decent). The D-05 Boutique is fantastic in that regard, as it actually has more features than the D-50.
I’m the same. I hate anything not being used and i feel uneasy that it deserves to be used and feels like a luxury i cant afford having sitting boxed away
I’ve found sometimes I take it out of the box after a few years and then I have a use for it. It needs time to process in the brain. If I sold it, I’d have to buy another one, I’d probably not bother with the effort.
Great content, as usual 🙌. Regarding Dilla, on the book about him released last year (fantastic reading), it says that apparently "donuts" was mainly done in a laptop, and finalised by a collaborator of him. The image of him creating that masterpiece in a hospital bed with an sp and a portable turntable, is very powerful, but in a funny way, I kind of find reassuring to know that it was done in a laptop 😅.
As someone getting cozy with a Digitakt that was chosen for re-entry to making (after a looong overdue New Dad Hiatus), and had been waffling on a 2nd hardware-addition JX-08 or JU-06A vs. Liven XFM vs. used MicroFreak, to the point of resentment... That continued until I recently found & caved on a JX-08 for only $210-shipped. And of all the videos you could've dropped - it showed up just this morning & I couldn't have wished for a more well-timed reassurance. 👀
There’s so many OP 1 units for sale and everyone wants $800 for them 😅😢. I personally have the Field so I’m not in the market, but I can’t see them holding up that value right now.
@Jamarr Mays I tell you I just got mine 4 weeks ago for $800 but I'm lacking in skill not knowing piano and now I can't sample any more, all 8 banks have a sound saved and now I can't sample anymore ??! Anyone know how to clear them?

Ha! Love that after selling all your drum stuff it was hardest to get rid if the snare. I was the same but ultimately it deserved to be played so it’s off doing just that now!
@@LiamKillen that’s awesome! If that was your snare, I bet you have some gems for cymbals. I agree, it takes forever to acquire the cymbals and have them pair and gel nicely together. I remember when I got the first cymbal that was truly musical sounding. You get it in an instant then. Mind you, even if I had those cymbals now, they wouldn’t likely work for me. I had some very loud stuff. Think you’ll ever get set up with another kit or will you just welcome the day if it happens?
I hum and hah about selling my Boutique JP-08 and my Proteus/1. The Proteus needs its volume control fixed before I can sell it. I mostly keep it as a reminder to never settle for less - I really wanted a Roland U220 but stupidly was too impatient and once the money was spent, it was spent. Ironically, once used U220s became affordable I had lost all interest. I bought some patches for the JP-08 but never got round to trying them. I don't mind the cute little faders but sonically it lacks mojo.
I considered an OPZ at one point until I finally got my hands on one, it felt like one bad knock to it in a bag or something similar might break it. Then I found out that I wasn't too wrong as many people as I've seen that have partially bent their OPZ. As some one that has a background with acoustic instruments I can be picky about build quality especially for something I might be dragging around with me on the regular like a groovebox.
@@LiamKillen Yeah I actually was shopping for a groove box for several years until I finally settled down on picking up a second hand MC-707, while making patches can be a PITA on it I've found it hits the right balance of wants and needs for me personally.

Man, I never sell anything. The used market is usually complete crap on the money you get back for it. It’s not like eurorack…makes me feel like I’m ripping myself off.
Oh man, other Roland Boutique synths? Definitely check out the SE-02. That synth just sounds MASSIVE. Great if what you’re going for is something like a MiniMoog. The three oscillators sound incredible. Since you have the FaderFox already, I’d opt to CC map that to overcome the small-ish knobs on it.
