I’m still in BN2 but I’m beginning to feel nervous of starting BN4 after BN3. Does the First New game mean you play the Main story & you get all 6 Double Souls before moving on the the final boss? And I imagine new game plus 2 is just the same with a stronger final boss? But what about new game plus 3 & 4?

Pattern goes like this: 1st playthrough- 1st tournament Firesoul/GutsSoul or AquaSoul/NumberSoul 2nd Tourney RollSoul/WindSoul or WoodSoul/MetalSoul 3rd tourney ThunderSoul/SearchSoul or ProtoSoul/JunkSoul 2nd Playthrough you will usually get one in the 1st tournament(whichever you didnt receive) and a repeat of one boss plus one new boss(2nd or 3rd tournaments to be the new soul) 3 > 2 > 1 Then the last soul to fill in the spot. On your 3rd playthrough though you better hope ProtoSoul(bluemoon)/SearchSoul(redsun) isn't your last one due to the undernet being dangerous around playthrough 3. Proto story needing to be traveled to undernet 6 and Search traveling to undernet 5. Most viruses just ignore the sneakrun there and they do TOO MUCH DAMAGE(specifically...this one spider virus combined with this circuit enemy, obviously if you buster max it less painful but I guarantee you since it's your first time the spider ex ver. 3 virus or circuit EX ver 3 will hit you) I'm going through mmbn3 (Since I started 4 onwards) So far, 1-3 isnt too difficult compared to 4. 4 I think they just overtuned a lot of the viruses and the final bosses. I highly recommend..to avoid using the dark chips. Use it only the one mandatory time and that's it, otherwise the postgame will eat you alive. Especially, Black Earth.
Forgot to answer your other question: Original is just normal story with 3 souls, which is pretty easy imo only final boss will give you trouble. 2nd version is same thing just a harder final boss and some viruses would give you trouble (usually, Melody's) but not much trouble really. 3rd playthrough is where you'll get deleted a lot if you're careless. As far as I'm seeing, this game is what introduces EX viruses, you also will fight the final boss omega version(I recommend to stick with the 3rd playtheough though and finish up everything) as well as post game final bosses which will again..be a challenge on its own without spoiling too much. One thing I do recommend: get a checklist for the chips for 1st and 2nd runs it becomes almost impossible to run into the weaker viruses later on.
