They sound the same to me! The only difference is you can carry the SKX Pro into the concert venue by yourself and don't need help getting it up on stage! 😃
Thank you so much. Exactly what I’ve been looking for. A direct comparison between the new and old. Annotations describing the demo would help us B3 newbie’s 🫣
I own the SKX Pro and an A100. I have owned several clones too. These comparisons only go so far as they only show a snapshot - a limited amount of settings being copied and compared. I like the SKX Pro and it's portable, but when you play a real Hammond tonewheel/ Leslike combo, it's like the Ghost of some big black Moma from New Orleans entering the room there is a presence you just can't digitalise - a poltergeist in every one. Sweat grease and gospel soul. I am just waiting to get an adapter for my real Leslies, then take thev SKX Pro through it's paces. Cant wait
I need to add that after you load the 58' tweet, go to settings if you need to change anything as Hal's is his settings. Still agreat sounding 58 emulation. Very pleased.
I'm just about to pull the trigger on buying an SKX Pro. I'd love to purchase your "tweaks", but I still don't see them on your website. Is there a way to simply pay you something via PayPal, or ...?
They are different. In fact they sound different. After I tweaked both to my B3, they sound very close, but there are some differences like the keyclick and some others.
@@HalTsuchida that’s so interesting. I saw another comparison video where the SK Pro and and XK5 sounded very different totally - with the XK5 having a more open almost hi-fi sound while the SK Pro sounded muffled and compressed. I can help but wonder if it’s something about how the video was recorded but I see other people saying the XK5 has more “punch” and “sparkle”, so I’m not sure what to think.
I have both and posted a comparison on both to my B3 somewhere. Maybe on Facebook... It's all about tweaking. Out of the box, none of the clones satisfy me, so I always tweak all the parameters. The XK5 and the SK(X) Pro offer so many.
Nothing can beat the old electro-magnetic originals - not today and not tomorrow! For example: play with 888888888 and heavy block chords a´ la Wild Bill Davis (if you can) on upper. Now you should hear AND FEEL the differences!
Actually on this video, it's very difficult to tell. I did play the all the drawbars out. Of course, restored vintage Hammonds are the best, and I have two of them. But, seriously clones sound a lot better than vintage ones in a bad shape. The Leslie is another important factor.
@@HalTsuchida Right...every organ in bad shape sound bad - electro-magnetic or clones. During the last 46 years I played on some hundret different electro-magnetic full size Hammonds on tour worldwide. There were a lot of good ones but also some bad ones. Most of the bad ones were far away from original condition: chops, organs with extra guts like string bass and some other unneccessary stuff built in. My own B3´s are #56104 (manufact. on Dec. 31, 1954 - right 1954!) and #67911 from 1957. The Hammond factory made some test models before regular sale to customers started in Jan. 1955 and shipped them to US-Hammond Studios / dealers in Nov. & Dec. 1954. Most of them were C3´s but also a handful of B3´s. My #56014 is one of them and the oldest known B3 in full working condition. Still works with the old wax caps and still sounds wonderfuI. Some restored organs with new caps sound too sharp and glassy - not my choice! I would not sell #56014 for a Million bucks!
Hey guys Hal's Hammond 58' tweet is now available for download on his website. Contact hime there for info. Sounds really goo on my SKX Pro, very warm sounding! Check it out.
Hey there I’m having an issue with volume out of my leslie 147 when I use 1147 connector 11 pin from B3guys with my SkXpro. There is very low volume coming from leslie 147. Is there a setting I need to change in the skxpro for this to work right??
Is there any way in which you could share your configuration? I'm planning on buying an SKX pro and I would love to know what the parameters are. Sounds great!!
Hello Hal! I have been following your work for a long time and with pleasure, I love it very much. Have you made these changes to your SKX Pro settings available for purchase? Where and how can they be purchased from you? Health to you, success and well-being!
@@HalTsuchida We are about to purchase the SKX Pro and would be interested to purchase your configuration. I checked your website and don't see anything yet. Do you have a timeline for availaility?
I bought the SKX Pro and thought that a mechanical Hammond sounded better, but after carefully listening they sound almost identical. Now what I need is to buy the Leslie speaker to make it sound better.
Great job, the skx pro sounds really close to youre original B3. If you set the key-click a bit softer than what you have here, I would like it better. It will be less dominant.
Thanks! It's not that simple. The real B3 has different keyclick on each note. Thus, the higher and lower notes have softer keyclick. However, on the SKX Pro, the keyclick is the same. If you turn the keyclick, that affect other ranges. Therefore, I made the keyclick sound similar to the higher-range. Also, the timbre of the keyclick is different. It is one of the hardest components to emulate. It's not simple as you say.
Obviously nothing sounds like a real leslie, but how does the leslie simulation sound? Have they made any improvements, or is it just ok sounding? Thanks!!
I totally agree. There is nothing sounds like a real Leslie. Honestly the Leslie sim is useable. I do use a full range speaker with the Leslie sim sometimes. It has been improved, however, I prefer using the Leslie or the Tornado 115. There is nothing like the cabinet resonance and moving air.
The SKX Pro sounds good, if you compare the direct Sound with no Leslie. The internal Leslie of the SKX Pro is weak. So a real Leslie is a must. This means weight. So Viscount and HX3 do a better job with their internal Leslie. I only use a Leslie at home. So what is the solution, if I don‘t want to carry a Leslie around?
@@thomaskorthals5894 I disagree. After you tweak the onboard Leslie sim on the SK(X) Pro, it sounds pretty good. Sometimes I play gigs with the sim. I often use the Leslie 2101mk2 or the Tornado 115.
Hi Hal, my problem is, that I found up to now no video clip, which convinced me about the internal Leslie simulation. In the meanwhile I find no music shop in South West Germany, where I can check the SKX Pro.
Let me know after playing the real thing in a bad shape. You might have a different opinion. My B3 has been restored, so all the B3 doesn't sound like this always.
This is a great way to do a comparison. There is very little discernible difference between the two.
Great job, Hal. You are a master at getting B3 tones out of any clonewheel.
Thank you!
I'm convinced. Amazingly close.
They sound the same to me! The only difference is you can carry the SKX Pro into the concert venue by yourself and don't need help getting it up on stage! 😃
They sound very close. It's very convenient that we can carry the SKX Pro by yourself.
Brilliant....you and the SKX Pro.
Thanks Gustavo!

If you use the Leslie with the SKX Pro, it sounds very close to the real thing. I have done it. I was a happy camper.
Real thing is the big mama and the clone is just the kid.
Of course, the weight is different.
Amazing. Great work!

Wow that’s amazing
