Even after making the mouse cursor bigger, I still thought it was too small for people watching on lower resolutions. It's more effort, but definitely worth it for s game like this. :)
You should have left the blue highway alone and had the top yellow disconnect and go from left up and round the back. You can’t destroy highways once it starts to get late in the game.
But that area was sorted! The fix he applied worked, so blue would be happier and continue. I saw he could fix it better earlier in the video, so it was interesting seeing the consequences. You actually can get away with motorway moves, so long as the dests have few pips and you are not cutting all service. Moves, delay journey starts so you need the headroom for temporary pause in flow. Also destroying highways is fine IF you have local houses to hook up.
I don't understand why he didn't just took the motorway from blue to the other entrance there. So the yellow could go in uninterrupted by the motorway and the fix would have been so much faster, and without stopping the yellow supply. That the yellow supply got cut, and then the pins started to spawn in otherplaces felt like the reason for the end. otherwise the 3 houses would have been enough for the lvl 1 at the bottom. Just the extra-pins that overflowed it :/
Well played!! But it was near infinity, You did not quite reach the max demand no room to spawn map. My near infinite run died similarly due to square dests, getting jammed after I failed to react in time with spare motorways to deploy, having sorted out the round dest bad problems. I had actually deleted roundabout near them earlier, as neither had become round, and I failed to block the 3x3 space. The area spawned houses of another colour, which I had trouble using, then the feeder road jammed because of other traffic routing strangely after redevelopment. The tricky red would likely have been helped by a short motorway, reducing journey times. Blocking: The area 1 square around dests is protected except in high density challenges. So it's roads where spawns would break segregation and 2 squares away that need blocks if a spawn would be bad. Houses need access roads pre-planned, otherwise the game hems houses in. When deleting road, spawning seems very common, so redevelopment is a dangerous time for unpleasant spawns, when you clear spaces. I think HydroPhil manages this by clearing an area ge wants more houses first. BTW the game ups demand, so if you block too much you cannot supply the dests from the houses you have. So it's not a game breaking exploit, you must allow sufficient dests, just spread them out. It's the same effect as people putting in roundabouts near dests or houses, it spreads the action out. If you don't plan space early game for roundabouts you won't have room later in the older parts of the city.
In fairness, infinity used to be around 8K... Or at least that's what I thought back then. How wrong was I? About 3K off, 11K is my new mark for the start of infinity
if you're gonna hook up a highway to a destination, pull it back a little bit instead of being right at the destination so that cars can have a chance to figure themselves out [less congestion] -away- from the destination
there is an alternativ aproach to the Yellow in the middle. Service the t2 Yellow locally by rotating all the one from the t1 building up. Service the t1 by highway This would also allow red to go around the yellows. also i do not understand highway 6 when there was a fast way to connect behind the reds..
15:30 Is that really faster than just connecting it straight up and having a junction there. It's already by the entrance to the shop, so they slow down there anyway.
tl;dr always have distance between your merge point and destination if you have more than one source ingesting into it. The important part is WHERE the slowdown happens - if cars are all stopping in front of the destination, congestion wins, 100%. If there's distance between the merge point and the destination, you'll ultimately do better. Think about it in terms of the real-life equivalent: we have arterial roads and merge lanes to properly ingest and digest traffic and reduce slowdowns. While this game is much less complex, the same principles exist. Disrupting traffic in small amounts across the length of the journey reduces overall congestion, as opposed to sending all of them directly to the destination. I'll also note, as an aside, this was before the August patch, so diagonal roads were stupidly efficient compared to what they are currently. See my patch note video for more details on this. :)
Interesting. I had thought people were cheating when talking about infinite setups and spawn-blocking. But this looks legitimate. Actually, I already had a 5900 score myself -- pure RNG luck without any spawn-blocks. But maybe I can do better. But it does look like you have to replay a map a lot of times :-)
Eight rounds was definitely a lot of effort to get this one, I will admit... though I've got a blind Dubai run coming, and it got preeeettty far... so skill also plays a large factor! Understanding how the game is developing is important. :)
Agreed on the zooming, the analysis presentation is the best on Mini-motorways. Spawn blocking gains you the space around your dests and access flexibility of houses. If you don't plan space, you cannot use roundabouts later in the game, there's no room! It's just about avoiding nightmare game killing spawns where a dest hooks up on a used main road with no options possible. Similarly early houses on islands if you have no bridges
Do you mean to see or to relocate? I know of both, but I'd never relocate if I'm that far into the game, not without a spare motorway! The reconstruction time will kill you! Moving the motorways to see better works yes, but it's not super effective near the attachment points.
Video title: "Achieving Infinity on Manila" Gameplay: "Your city shut down after 141 days. 5914 commuters traveled on your roads over that time." 5914 is an extremely impressive score, but it's not infinity. It isn't even close.
I agree! Though that's alright, I already know I can attain infinity, and the discussion at the end of the video and runs since then remind me of exactly that. That was the underlying reason for the video, to show others that it's possible. I'll get there, and believe in everyone else that tries to get there too!
@@Retroflux "That was the underlying reason for the video, to show others that it's possible" - To show others that it's possible by failing to do it? That doesn't make sense. You're clearly extremely talented at this, and that score is legitimately amazing, but there's a fine line between confidence and delusion, especially when you're at the mercy of the RNG. Regardless, I wish you well in your endeavor and hope you achieve your goal. It would be nice to see an excessively-high score that is legitimate rather than a hack.
Yep, showing people the journey from 2500+ to 8000+ is exactly what everyone else is going through, it's the journey to infinity that matters. I am partially at the mercy of RNG, but I am hoping to one day go infinite without hacks, and inspire people and show my process along the way. But it's all a learning process :) Thanks for both the kind and critical words, I'll use them to be better in the future. All the best to you, stranger!
@@Retroflux I hit 174,000 and counting on Los Angeles map, that is real infinity. It is very important to not connect houses to multiple businesses if you want to hit infinity.
