No. Kirby himself was equally shocked. Deon wasn't mentioned, so he is keeping receipts.
It’s not “best people at their job” in college football though. I assume he’s picking people who stand to rise this year, even though he didn’t say that explicitly. Even if Kirby gets another national championship this year, that would just be par for the course. A huge accomplishment but wouldn’t increase his standing in everyone’s eyes by much because it can’t be raised much. He’s easily the most successful current coach and will still be that no matter who wins the national championship.

Everyone talking about defense wins championships but failed to mention FSU defense in 2023 and said offense or QB wins. If Greg McClory can throw for 58 yards and win a national championship why y'all put that narrative on FSU?

Our defensive front would have had Milroe on his back the entire game. But, we will never know because FSU was denied what they rightfully earned, a playoff spot.
Even Kirby Smart in the post game press conference recognized what was happening and said it's unacceptable.

Evers? Why is everyone so big on him? Just because he’s returning after another somewhat decent year at best? Statistically he hasn’t done anything special and his two biggest games last year he lost. Add to the fact his receiving corps may not even be as good as it was this past year I’m having a hard time seeing why certain someone’s are so high on Quinn. Maybe someone could break it down for me from a metrics standpoint and not some guess based on nothing other than he’s returning for a 4th year? Evers has to show a lot more for me to buy into him being one of the games biggest names much less a great QB. Great, Elite QB’s, with the weapons he has had at his disposal rarely come back for a 4th year. How concerned should Texas fans be with Manning just being along for the ride and to not even have a QB battle? Ewers 3,479 yards 22 TD’s 6 int’s. With the weapons Ewers had and with Sark being a great designer and call player how are those stats supportive of an elite QB getting ready to have an elite year. In his 4th season? DG didn’t even get invited to the senior bowl with his numbers and I would argue Ewers had a better group of skill position players especially including the RB position and run game in general. Can’t wait to watch another average to slightly above average season from Ewers while everyone is talking him up as a top 1-3 college QB this year.
