I'm new to your videos and have finally found someone that thinks and creates/builds like I enjoy doing. I will be be watching the rest of your videos....keep 'em coming!
I just finished the one I made for my 02 Rav4, I had to put some very specific bends in the tube because I wanted to keep the wing on and it had to make its way around the spare tire holder. All in all it worked great and will also hold an extra jerry can.
@@PatrickRemington I saw yours and then just went into my garage and started it, nobody has made a video for a rav4 so I had to figure out a bunch of little issues but it works great now. I just painted it and threw it on for the final time, the gas can is still coming in the mail and I'm just gonna do my own thing for mounting it, ill probably just weld some brackets onto a rung and go from there.

I would love a quick disconnect design. I love the abaility to roll the window all the way down and occasionaly load large items that way. It would be nice to be able to remove the ladder when needed very quicly (under 30 seconds).
Man. I don’t usually watch long videos like this but wow. You did a great job and I’ve been ready to tackle something like this. Great video quick and to the point. I loved the way you made it simple and nice tricks
My bends did match up perfectly. I also would have waisted some conduit learning how to get perfect bends and didn’t want to deal with that. But the bends would definitely look better that’s for sure
Awesome vid. I'd love to do some welding as soon as i dont live in an apartment and have my own work space. What kind of welder/types of welding do you have? Dont realy know difference between different types (MIG, etc)
Patrick awesome work man. I love your passion of DIYing your own stuff. I have a YT channel as well and I can appreciate all the fabbing, video work, and explanations that go along with it. Ill be buiilding my own ladder soon and this video has help tremendously. Keep of the great work!
You should explore the world of unistrut! I opted for it instead of conduit on my DIY roof rack. The customization is endless. Also, do you have a good recommendation for a beginner welding setup?
I would get a 110 flux core/mig welder. You don't need shield gas with flux core wire so it's cheaper and good to start with. Whenever you want to start MIG welding you can just buy a bottle of 75/25 shield gas. Flux core welding spatters and Sparks more it doesn't look quite as clean. Mig spatters less and looks cleaner. I would try to find something used first. Nothing too old tho. Welders have gotten so much better and cheaper in the last few years. Lincoln electric, Hobart, Vulcan (harbor freight) are all good choices for anyone. Watch some review videos here on RUclips. If you would rather buy new I'd look at a machine from YesWelder Which is the brand I was using. I've been very surprised by the quality for the price. Hope this helps! Let em know if you have any other questions!
Nice! I have a e-350 ambulance build hopefully coming soon to the channel. I also ride mtb at the Ridgeland trails and the quarry in Jackson/Madison ms. Saw some of your videos from there!
You could probably braize that together if you had strong enough brazing rods. I'd weld it because I weigh slightly more than an average moon, plus I have a welder, but I believe you *could* braze this together.
Love the fantastic video! But why not paint over the galvanize coating?? All vehicle base metal is galvanized and it add additional protection from rust...
I read that it needs to be primed with a latex primer for it to work. If you prime with oil-based primer it will adhere initially but will quickly fail. You need to remove the coating to weld it anyway and my spray paint is oil-based so it's just easier to go ahead and remove it. With a good paint job, I'm not worried about rust.
Do you think the mounting brackets you’d designed will fit on my 4th gen? I know the ladder will be slightly different but I believe the brackets will still work. Awesome vid!

Why did you cut and weld instead of simply bend the conduit? It is engineered to be bent, that's why is called malleable versus the harder style called rigid. Save a lot of timed and energy.
Nothing bad in what you did by cutting and welding the electrical conduit, you might have been able to find cheap or rented or even bought a tubing bender for electrical conduit. home Depot sell them for about $30. If you have other projects where you will be using the conduit, it might be something to look into for those projects.
Yep.. The reason I avoided that method was to keep from having to buy a new tool I would rarely use and I wanted to avoid the learning curve where I might ruin a few pieces before figuring it out.
If you are using the wire conduits to build the ladder, you can just use the handheld bending tool, all Electrician do that way, why cut and weld them ?
The first reason is that I don't have that tool and wanted to avoid buying another took that I wouldn't really need again. Also, that tool comes with a learning curve and I didn't want to waste any conduit try to learn out to get the bends just right.
Just my two cents, but I don’t believe beginner welders should cut their teeth on structural items. Stick to non-structural projects until you learn how to make a good weld. I also would not trust half inch conduit with my body weight

Haha thanks! I know I got an least one additional subscriber for that effort!
I tell you what would make it even better, if you could mask off the top half of the steps and then put a thick coat of some nonslip paint on it
It would cool to have made one of the bars fat and flat, so you could mount a rotopax to it.
Would this work for a RAV4 2021?
is there any other way to do the bottom bracket?
im mig welding and everytime i tac it warps the nut and the bolt will no longer thread.
