    Do you have trouble looking for yeast too?
    Dry Yeast is difficult to find in supermarket these days, I have been searching for it for over 2 weeks.
    I was lucky I found some fresh yeast and found out that we can freeze fresh yeast. Here is my step by step guide how to freeze yeast in freezer.
    I am a crisis prepper who create videos about kitchen tips, cheap, fast, easy healthy meals and safe home remedies.
    Yeast is a living, single-cell organism. As the yeast grows, it converts its food (in the form of sugar or starch) into alcohol and carbon dioxide through the process of fermentation. This makes it crucial to the making of wine and beer, as well as the process of baking (which has led to the identification of two main types, brewer's and baker's yeast).
    Baker's yeast is used in cookery to rise (leaven) any kind of bread, whether sweet or savoury.

    Get a large quantity of fresh yeast. Make little blocks weighing 42 g, the weight of a regular yeast package in Europe and for the European recipes. Wrap in a saran wrap, pack in a box, put in the freezer. For baking let it thaw and proceed with warm milk or water and little sugar. Works like a charm 8 months later.

      I have accessed an 8oz block of cake yeast. I'm hoping I can honestly break that block down into small blocks to bake bread and rolls with. I'm just not sure what size is needed per recipe. Help please?

      The common weight here in Sweden is 50 grams per pack, enough for 1 time use. The dimensions is 4cm x 4 cm x4cm

      To be honest, I am not an expert in baking. I often bake on gut feeling, for 1 portion of frozen yeast (100gm) I will add a teaspoon of sugar with approx 200ml hot water, stir until sugar melt then wait for temperature to drop until 37-40 degrees Celsius that add in rest of ingredients and mix bread in a bread mixer for at least 20 minutes. Anyway, I will try to make this in the near future, I am currently staying in a cabin and I don't have any bread machine. I will keep you posted the next time I bake.

      @@esteeinsweden thank you, tbh anything will be very helpful 😁 when you say rest of ingredients, how much is that exactly 1-2 cups flour??.
      Enjoy your time at the cabin and I'll be looking forward to your video when you get round to it

    Can we freeze this as soon we make it or should we sit it on the counter.
    Another question :
    Can we add this to flour water and sugar to make fresh starter
    Tx you very much for this video

    • @esteeinsweden
      @esteeinsweden  4 года назад +1

      You can put it in fridge for a few days, after few days if still not use, you should freeze it.
      I tried sugar earlier but didn't like the smell of the dough.. It smell acidic like old sock.
      You are welcome, thanks for watching, hope you share this video too.

    How can be use after this procedure, I mean un which proportion, like if the recepie ask for 6gr of dry yeast, how much of this mix should I use?

    • @esteeinsweden
      @esteeinsweden  4 года назад

      If you mixed 50gr of fresh yeast to 50 gr of flour, than divide the flour yeast mixture according, if your recipe asked for 6 gr, you should use approximately 12% of the flour yeast mixture, did I make any sense? 😅

    • @jkimgt
      @jkimgt 4 года назад +1

      @@esteeinsweden si, from 50+50, 12% is 12g. So basically double of this mixture than dry yeast, which it's kind of the same ratio recomended from dry to fresh.

      Depending on what you bake, bread? Pizza?
      What is a Typical Yeast to Flour Ratio is
      One packet of dry yeast (2 and 1/4 teaspoons) will raise up to 4 cups of flour.

      Buy freeze dried yeast and turn it into fresh live yeast by adding flour and water and leave it overnight. Freeze dried yeast is perfect for long term storage and you activate it with flour. You don’t have to use it while it’s dry but keep some stored because it’s a source of new fresh yeast.
