      Much cheaper, too, working out around 20% of the cost, if you buy it and, as long as you feed the yeast, you will _never_ run out!

    Hi. I’ve dried out sourdough starter by spreading it thinly on waxpapered cookie sheet, then crumbling it up. Reconstituted it with warm water. This might work fir this yeast mixture, what do you folks think? I’ve also frozen sourdough starter. It survived. Interesting video. I don’t think fresh yeast is sold to general public anymore?! Thank you.

      Shouldn't be a problem.
      Personally, in creating the starter I feed it every day, for a week.
      Week two I remove half the mass, replacing it with an equal measure of feed for two reasons.
      Firstly, to encourage the strongest bacteria to survive.
      Secondly, to bake with, store or give to others.
      If refrigerated, it only needs fed once a week, as the cooling slows down the bacteria's metabolism.

    Rather than dumping it into one container, in one solid mass, I place it into an ice cube tray, which seperates the yeast into smaller portions.
    Once it has frozen I place the cubes into a container.
    This way I can take out only as much as I need, each time I intend baking, leaving it in the fridge for 24hrs to thaw properly, with none wasted. 😁

    danke für das Rezept. Ich kenne ein anderes Rezept für die Germ: eine gekochte, geriebene Kartoffel, 1Teelöffel Rohrzucker und soviel Bier, dass man es rühren kann. Bei Zimmertemperatur über Nacht rasten lassen. Eignet sich für Kuchen. Riecht wunderbar nach Zitrone.

    There another method you can use with just flour oo water and dry yeast Vito lacopelli will teach you this and is an easier process

    • @HeyYuh542
      @HeyYuh542 Год назад +1

      But it doesn't last as long as this method. So this one is far superior. And what's the point of making fresh yeast if you're still going to need the commercial yeast, might at as well never bother making it yourself and just use the store bought to begin with
