  • Ventilation (Ve) can increase from resting levels of 6-10 L/min to as high as 200-250 l/min in well-trained athletes. This drive to increase ventilation is a result of CO2 production in the working muscles, and the need for the body to tightly regulate pH values between 7.35-7.45. This is accomplished by the quickly shifting acid base balance through elimination of CO2 through the lungs.
We have seen some athletes train to breathe as much as 250-300 l/min with specific respiratory training, though these values are not attainable during exercise, due to the tremendous coordination of muscular efforts required. These intensities can be reached however in the rest intervals between intervals during HIIT or in sports like hockey during the rest between “shifts” on the ice.
    WHAT IS VO2 MASTER?
The VO2 Master Analyzer is the ultimate portable metabolic analyzer. At a weight of 200 grams, the VO2 Master Analyzer provides the best field testing equipment currently available. No tubes, cables or backpacks needed. Testing data is streamed directly to our free mobile app where it can be viewed in real time. Additionally, the app will draw data from a wide variety of other physiologic testing equipment, including HR monitors, Power Meters and Moxy monitors as examples. Test VO2 Max, estimate resting metabolic rate, determine training zones, examine breathing coordination and more. The possibilities for physiologic testing are now endless.
