I'm just discovering this tutorial now and have to say THANK YOU for this extremely informative and easy to follow instruction. I've lost my job, my house, and many other things and am now embarking on designing and building a tiny home on a very tight budget with little to no knowledge about what's involved. You have now idea how helpful your contribution is to me. I'm so grateful for this. Thank you again. Also, your presentation is delightful - I could listen to you all day : ) - Sharlene
So I saw this video and thought.....hmmmm. Within just a few days I have downloaded the basic sketchup software, got to grips with it and designed myself a 4m x 4m loglap cabin with attatched timber greenhouse in glorious detail. Thanks for the video really gave me some confidence to have another bash at a simple Cad package :)
66 Thumbs why I ask ? Trolls I guess. Well coming across this tutorial has really made my day. I have only watched this first tutorial and would like to say its very well done, explanatory and narrated like a proffesional. My task in hand begins today. Thank you.
This is exactly what I need. I can totally do this. I totally want to do this. I'm on HUD and I want to walk away from them because they control too much of my life.
Hey Micheal. I purchased a few th plans which are great. Do you do sketch up models using SIP (structural insulation panels?) My panels are 2.4x1.2 metre rectangles. Thanks
I was wondering about your beginning positioning of the floor joists. Are they hanging off the edge of the trailer? Wouldn't the full weight of the structure be better off positioned resting on the actuall trailer and not hanging off the edge, supported by horozontal nails and or bolts under a single layer of plywood? I'm imagining the thing collapsing under its own weight during a heavy blizzard or intense windstorm rite now. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
more questions come up, how do you prevent water infiltration from underneath? imagine a large indoor spill or perhaps even snows of more than 2 feet blow up underneath, melt and evaporate.. a warped flooth sheath would squeek i imagine... mildew would not be to pleasant.
Open up Sketchup. You know your list of tools on top above your field for building? There is an icon that is three from the end called "3D Warehouse" and here you can search for pre-made items like this trailer. Hope this helped if you still needed it!
Hi James, how do you know that the trailer was exactly the size that you needed? Basically so that the rest of the house could be built/designed with accurate size? Thanks!
thank you for sharing good infos. after we moved to new property to biuld are first home my racess neighboor set my every thinks on fire and told me move back for ever i came from.... we was living in a rv at the time and didt have the insurance.we came homeless..... after i saw this video im going to pule my rv frame from ashes try to save and build place to us... i do landscaping i think i can do this.. thank you again .
Great video..... But..... I guess what you could have said to the viewers is.... I know the foundations to build a tiny home, very technical build knowledge here, most people won't have knowledge of struts, pins, supports, beams, foundations etc... This video doesn't explain either side, the 'sketch up how' to and the 'how to build a solid tiny home in detail' side. It's pretty to watch but you are left at square 1. Maybe slow it down and go into detail more, it's a great video series but I don't know any more about sketch up that i did before, still good to see all the foundations being met.. Well done though, great series none the less..
Hello, I'm trying to build a 10x10 greenhouse with a roof on hinges. and decided to mock it up in google SketchUp and found your video I'm trying to learn the aspects but following along things aren't working. like I make a component and then try to edit one but the other doesn't change.
+ECdrummer here's one site that has the Iron Eagle Trailers, just click on the download arrow in the lower right of the image and open sketchup, then delete the trailers you don't want. 3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/search.html?tags=Trailer&scoring=p&start=156&hl=nl
I'm already well into my ultra-micro light house build, 50 square feet build on wheels. Again, it was easier to do this then it would have been to have tried to design it on sketchup.
tamugrad07 Because I originally came here hoping this would help. Turned out it didn't. Is this really that hard for you to grasp? Are you slow witted? Head injured? Should only people who have positive things to say comment? If so, then why did you post?
In California trailers may be up to 16 feet by 8 feet with little regulation. Larger than that laws start kicking in that restrict how you use or move the trailer. Check your local state laws on trailer licensing and on moving permits. Here, CA, 16 x 8 or smaller is legally called a "camping trailer" and has few restrictions.
Brad Zachow The way I do it is to make the wall, then with the pencil, draw the window. using the select tool, select the window and delete it. then use the "thickness" tool to make the wall your standard thickness. hopefully that helps :)
T Silvers Do you have a link? And what about the lengths in front and back of the wheels, wouldn't they be different than what's on a 20 ft. trailer? Thanks for the help.
The link is down maybe a few posts. Atleast it is for me. You have to move the wheel well to where it's located on your own trailer. If you don't have a trailer yet then there's not much you can do. I don't know if there's a standard for where the wheels are located on a trailer. I would think there might be but I can't find any information on it.
SketchUp is great if you're going to build a tiny house yourself from the barebone. Im not a carpenter. I just want to design a tiny house, not build it.
Well at a certain point you cannot expect them to waste their time supporting older software. They have to think about the % of people that use that product and whether or not it's worth spending time and money making it compatible.
Building a house takes months. If you don't have the patience to do this I doubt you will have the patience to put up with the actual construction process.

sketchup is so addicting and so fun!!
extremely helpful. And what I need. Appreciate the tut a LOT!
I was just wondering about the trailer design...did you do it or download from Warehouse...and what size is it?
This is great! My wife and I are embarking on building a tiny house and this was invaluable!
Awesome! what a great teacher :) Thanks for all the help!
Excellent tutorial, helped a lot! Just wondering, do you live in a tiny house?
You're a good teacher.
Fascinating! Thank you for creating this useful resource for wannabe designers.

wow... thanks for taking the time to do this. this is awesome.
Thanks a lot for this tutorial video, very helpful

Awesome. How do I put that cute trailer on SketchUp? Dead in the water before I start
Thank you for the tutorial. I can get started on my dream house now! :D
Great Arch. Drawing
Thank you so much
You make it look easy ...
more questions come up, how do you prevent water infiltration from underneath? imagine a large indoor spill or perhaps even snows of more than 2 feet blow up underneath, melt and evaporate.. a warped flooth sheath would squeek i imagine... mildew would not be to pleasant.
did u draw the trailer too? how did u do that?

Hi James, how do you know that the trailer was exactly the size that you needed? Basically so that the rest of the house could be built/designed with accurate size? Thanks!
it was most likely a plugin or item from the 3d warehouse in the windows tab
thank you for sharing good infos.

where can I download the sketch up file of the only the trailer?
Nasly Duarte contact us for that!
@@TrailerMade how do I contact you to get the file of the trailer? Thank you!
super helpful. I'm a carpenter looking for something to speed up production and cost estimation. thanks so much!
how do I frame a wall and what type of wood and nails do I use????????? also what type of adhesive and so many questions nobody is answering!!
Good stuff!
Curious, how long does this drawing really take to draw?
so the 2"x4" isn't actually 2"x4"? instead 1.5"x3.5"?
yes
For complex items I prefer components. Especially when I can take a 20MB file down to a 1.3MB file.

Oh, Im surface pro if that matters but Id think the program should work the same no matter what one is on.
How do you get the trailer into the program? I'm sure it's not part of Sketchup Free.
that was amazing!!
Thank you !
how do you get the trailer there to start with? great videos
www.tinyhousedesign.com/skp/trailers.skp
you can get frames on components on sketchup
how did you get that trailer in there? was it imported?

very nice .. I like to build one with the smae trailer .. but cannot find it :D

@@BrooklynAvenue what finally did help you? Cuz this isnt helping my either
It's actually easier to just build a goddamn house than to do this.
Yes, but my goddamn house cost me 8k in taxes last year so this is why i'm looking at a Tiny home on wheels, SMH
Brooklyn Avenue no, it's not
Yes, it is. You blithering alcoholic.
no its not
Yes it is
I'm unsure how to find the trailer you used in the warehouse. Could someone help?
(There's sooo many options and none seem right!)

Can i show motion with this software?
Eg after drawing a trailer ,can i show it moving
@tinyhousedesign How did you makes the 2x4 studs 16" on center?
Sketchup requires I pick a template to start-what do I select?
Pick Construction, not architecture. It will also ask if you want it in imperial or metric.
Is this program free by any chance? If so, where could i download it from? and i got Windows 8! Thanks i would appreciate it alot!!
Sketch Up is free. If you'll do a search for Google Sketch Up, it should be easy to find. =)
What sketch up You use?
how much space do you need to be around the fender?
My guess is make it fit like in the video. When you put the wall sheathing on it, you can make it pretty much seamless with the fender.
can you send me a template that I can modify?
@Michael Janzen Looks terrifyingly similar to Roblox, is it that easy?
Can u do a goose neck tiny home
if you colour code your components it will help you remember!
How did you COPY that 2 by four ? Suddenly you just had two identical pieces How did you do it?
.
I am struggling with how to cut the window openings out of the sheathing. I have tried various methods, that just are not working. Please advise....

I accidently searched for Googles Ketchup^^
😊😃
can you show how to build the trailer? i want the same one you are using
How can I do this with u-shapt metal bars?
Very clever, but I wish the mouse didn't fly around at such a pace. I had enormous difficulty in following what was happening.
So i guess you never heard of tiny houses. They have made it to the real world my friend.
We are alike a bit.... My friends say hayden why are you drawing the wood when the will be in walls!!??? I say because it's real that way!!!!
Here's the trailer: tinyhousedesign (dot) com/sketchup/20-foot-trailer.skp
Can you show us about the trailer pls??
What i miss on this video is how to make the frame with wheels.
i use sketch up 8 on windows if thats any help i think he is using 8 cant tell cause he is on mac
Hmm I wish move did what its doing for you. Everytime I use move it changes the shape on me.
Where do i find a 28 ft trailer?
Just use the trailer(s) in the link Simon posted and edit the trailer and drag it out to 28'.
That's what I did and it was pretty simple.
T Silvers Do you have a link? And what about the lengths in front and back of the wheels, wouldn't they be different than what's on a 20 ft. trailer? Thanks for the help.

side bars?
where can i get the trailer file
+Cesar “Modive” Hernandez I have the same question
+Jllcrafty Me too
Jesus Lopez
Thank you Jesus! Pun intended.
+Jesus Lopez it doesnt work any more
Is he using SketchUp Pro ($695) or is he using SketchUp Make (free)?
Mye Flatley I believe it is the Pro. The free looks nothing like that nor does it have near the options to use. 😔
Small homes will not accomodate the cranial cavity of paulbedi80--no donkeys allowed
Windows Vista and older: These versions of Windows are no longer supported by SketchUp. Well....that sucks!

Your too FAST on the clicking, slow down pls. click this & click that and where do you put the sizes in???
What is the point of sketchup?
Why dont you tell us how to build the trailer first.
this is going to fast i wanna know how this program works but you are just showing how to make something not how it works
"push pool tool"
push pull..
draw deez
way too fast...
hahahaha
I got to make group and you lost me on how to make a 2x4 omg
Is this an instructional video??? Or is this simply a video of a dude showing off his ability?? Pretty awful...
He begins explaining how to actually do it at the 4 minute mark. The first 4 minutes is just him basically showing you what you can do with it.
Slow in boring
Building a house takes months. If you don't have the patience to do this I doubt you will have the patience to put up with the actual construction process.
Amazingly bad how to.
SI C POUR ALLEZ AUSSI VITE CA NE SERE A RIEN
