You know what else is pretty heavy ?...
Metals get heavier the further you go down the periodic table. The larger the number they have on the bottom of their box, the heavier and more dense. Gold and mercury are pretty heavy metals, though pure gold shouldn't be harmful in any way. Platnium, and Iridium are in that general area too.
We use lead for bullets because it is one of the heaviest. However, there is one metal slightly better and that is the next one on the periodic table... Bismuth. (yes, as in pepto bismol).
You can buy shotgun shells that have bismuth and that is a good thing. Lead shot can be eaten by birds (ducks in particular) and bismuth isn't toxic like lead. Using non lead shot is in your own best interest because you may end up eating that dissolved lead yourself if you keep putting lead into the environment where ducks live.
Then comes the ultimate heavy metal of them all (that is usable and reasonably harmless). Uranium. The extremely VAST majority of naturally occuring Uranium is U-238. This is so poorly radioactive that it takes something like 4+ billion years to go through a single half life. My friend has some in his drawer at work.
We use spent uranium (that is the waste from enriched uranium) to make really tough, dense, hard hitting bullets (think tank piercing). Many feel this is a bit of a poor decision due to the slight radioactivity of the uranium, but I would argue that lead is more likely to react and make an environmental hazard.
I would say that if you are going to bash spent uranium as a bullet material, then bismuth bullets are a reasonable alternative.
lmao WTF

I get the Alienware hate for desktops, but their laptops aren't too bad. The build quality and design is a lot more refined than other brands, even if they don't exactly offer a good price/performance ratio.
yeah... accept that alienware was a respectable company back in the day, arguably the best. so dell bought them, and has done nothing but raise the prices since. and its because of this, added to having the worst customer service ever (before they were bought by dell they had sager level customer service, if I remember correctly), that makes everyone hate them so much.
Ship Happens they've definitely raised the prices but their customer service is better than mediocre really. At least it isn't razer.
Ok... Me and my buddy both have Alienware 17s. He got his in Dec. mine in Jan. I had to send in mine once for a faulty battery after 4 months. They didn't have the part they needed for almost an entire month till I told them to send it back and send a tech out when they got the part. That one with 6820HK and GTX 1080. My buddy's on the other hand(6700HQ GTX 1070) has been sent back to be fixed 5+ times. Every single time they needed to replace the motherboard and screens. I consider myself lucky only having the battery problem but I would never recommend an Alienware for a non build yourself pc. I'd say go with MSI but I've never owned one but everyone I spoke to that did says they have never had any problems. My Alienware desktop(X51-R3) I've never had to send in. The original alpha was a piece of shit too only lasting 3 weeks before I sent it back for a refund. But the Alpha r2 I have now is great.
tl:dr In my experience with Alienware, The laptops are touchy but my desktops with at least a second revision are solid.
msi stealth pro user here (I know its overpriced but i managed to snag one off ebay new for $1k) msi is by far not the best, but at least the thing works. its got some flaws so I wouldn't recommend it, but its good enough that im not going to talk trash about it. form what i've heard, the best by far is sager for laptops.
+Michael Beck We have the 2016 version and within 6 months, the keyboard was useless, with many of the majorly used keys not responding (and don't get me started on the issues with the Anniversary Update not installing). I wanted to send it back for repairs, but the actual owner said the hell with it and just put it up.

really like the editing style here. Perfect speed to follow, unlike other videos where too much time is spent on simple things to understand.
that is the saddest little trackpad i've ever seen
TheShoxter who play pc games on a trackpad anyway
UnlimitedMangos nobody says you play games on a trackpad, you still need a trackpad when you take it to school etc
and theres a trackpad lol use it.
it's pretty much like a macbook but also has left and right click
It's not even close to Macbook performance (as I was typing this mine accidently activated and deleted the sentence). I have the AW13, same trackpad, it's not the best. It gets the job done but that's about it.
HOLLY BALLS Linus.....That laptop is bigger than you

Just bought this. It was a great deal and new with a warranty and return policy. Did so e research and it still holds up to 2020. It’s shipping! I’ll let y’all know what I think of it in 2020. Love ya! ❤️
How is it doing so far for today? I'll be getting one soon! Just needed a second opinion
Well...The USB-C on the 12-inch MacBook is even lonelier... At least the Alienware had a fan beside it... The MacBook has nothing
Alienware has become more competetive in the recent years, still I think Dell is going too hard for the gamer-target-group.
Doktor L what would You say for a student? Blade 14 or alienware 13r3?
Well I'm saying this could be a very good content creation device, or other heavy tasks not considering gaming, but the aesthetics make it only suitable for gaming. You cant take this tank to a client or a meeting, hence I'm saying Dell shouldn't be so focused on gamers.
ASUS GL502VS GTX 1070 and an NVMe SSD...$1,500 on Amazon. Don't waste money on this thing.
School yeah, but just think about that 50-something-yrs-old Manager of a company you should impress to get the new job, he will look very confused and if he has other options that seem to be more "business"-like he will go for them. That is what I'm saying, I did not say it was a bad machine, I just said it isn't suitable for anything business-oriented.
Look at Sager/Clevo if you want great build quailty great components and on gamer looking aesthetics. I personally own a Sager NP8155 and its a great machine for the $1309 I gt it for.

Lool linus caught me looking at the girls ****s at 3:40. "Speaking of looking the other way" lmfao im dying
I’ve had it coming on 8 years with a GTX 1070 in it and it gets the job done for me and surprisingly runs games well even still.

Alienated for Science i cant tell if you are serious or making a joke
Juan Rainaldi nope. Top tier 15 inch can get over 4000
Can people stop comparing products for completely different uses. No one is stood in a shop deciding between a macbook pro or a gaming laptop
i have the alienware 15 now for 2 months and i absolutly love it. the only real downsight is the weight and sometimes the fans get a bit loud under normal ussage
I really like Max in these B-Roll bits. She adds a bit of variety, character and humor in these background shots that are always a laugh.
For that price you can build a mini itx pc thats more portable
nnnkatze such as the DanCase
actually we can build a 8k gaming pc
yea if there is a wall outlet everywhere you go
Except for the monitor.
will the battery, monitor, mouse, and keyboard fit in your backpack too?
Alienware support is a nightmare and I sent mine in twice before giving up because the backlight of the screen bled like a virgin
glorious comparison
Well,is there any kind of laptop company that has good support?
dell owns alienware and has some pretty awesome support for hardware issues.... next day onsite repair if its under warranty.
Joe Mcrath it was under warranty and I didn't get any on-site repairs, I m not from the USA..
MSI has really good support. I had a problem with my laptop (The HDD died completely) and they gave me a free shipping slip to get it fixed. Was back quite fast and haven't had any problems since.

I think people tend to forget that if you can get a... Say, 1,000 laptop that performs 'as good' as a desktop, you are getting a way better deal than you think. Nobody ever factors in that (aside from portability), you no longer have to buy a monitor (200-600$), or a keyboard(~100$).
From someone who has one of these, given your amplier port you only need a 1060 (keeps the laptop super cool therefore making it last much longer) FHD is good enough given the size of the screen (meaning 4k is all that worth it unless you hardcore edit photos zooming way into them, the speakers are great, surround sound is unreal, everyone would love more bass but coming from an xps l502x (probably the best laptop speakers of all time) this is really good. IPS>TN unless 120hz is that important to you but other than that ips is much better picture quality even if this TN is better than normal TN. Also 7700 processor is more than enough. I would suggest at least 16 gigs ram though although you could always add yourself if yours came with 8 gigs. SSD you can also add yourself if you don't get a good deal. That's my opinion.
DingisMaximus ye boi why dont you get a potato, is it more than enough for you.
Well 1060 for what i do it’s joke
Fhd on 17 well if it was 5 inch then maybe but 17 that’s another joke
Dude if potato is good for u these laptop doesn’t meant to be for u 🆗
DingisMaximus
Just because a duel core 1.8ghz, GTX potato and 60hz screen is good for you, doesn't mean it's more than enough for most people. So quit acting like everything is overkill.
69 really ??? 😂😂
3:16 Although many may consider putting an epilepsy warning in a video a joke, I applaud whoever actually put this in. Thank you.
Oh my god, that Blue Apron advert was EXACTLY THE SAME word for word, inflection for inflection as Stuff You Should Know podcast. I had no idea the level of detail this kind of sponsorship had.

I remember now on mid 2000s there was like: 15" was normal laptops, along with the slightly smaller 14", some specially small ones on the 12" range were rare, and 17" was a thing. Specially many "multimedia" laptop were the 17" variety
Another great review video. I like how you are integrating your team members into the visual explanation for your video.
Your production values are going up Linus. :)
Did anyone heard that weird noise throughout the video??? Like static of some sort.
Yeah I did
Mhel Mabayo if u hear that than it’s probably your speakers from your phone
yeah
Love the erratic fast-paced editing - although I can see tired and older people potentially not being able to follow it with full attention and missing things from the presentation
otherwise great job!
6:08 It has 3 M.2 slots, it’s written on the plastic: SSD-1(small M.2, between SSD-2 and the fan),SSD-2,SSD-3
About 2 month ago, I bought 15R3. I use it for learning of computer programing, homework, and gaming. And so I usually take it and go to university. Every morning, my shoulder hurts lol.
Got my 17 w/ a 1440p 120hz display for 2k exact.
Hey man, im about to buy one and wanted to know if you've had any issues with it. Scrolling through these comments is like a horror story.
Mine was a smidge over 2k, however with an 8th gen i7 and a 1070. It was on sale, price before sale was 2300 i believe? Pretty worth it imo
Lamborghini Civic just got mine delivered today. Same exact one as you. My thermals are great. Steady 61°C under load
Hey man. Is it true that the fans don't get quite after using some heavy programs? Is there a way to solve that in case it exists
Hey, could you do a review of the new Alienware 17 R5 2018 and tell whether it’s suitable for CAD software under high loads? :)
i have one and CAD works just fine :D
Linus here is a tip i learned , the laptop's rubber feet aren't high enough to vent in a lot of air. If you raise the back of the laptop and keep it in an angled fashion it helps keep the CPU and GPU cool and the temps will lower by atleast 6 degrees.
I don't really know what it is, but your guys' videos have been better the past few weeks or so. Keep it up!
So this thing has a good webcam, but NOT the Surface Laptop?
GabeNewell1337 sarcasm
Doesn't this laptop have 3 m.2 slots?
BSoD Gaming I own one and yes. 2 full size and 1 half size.
I also own one. How are your thermals mate?
I play fallout 4 on ultra for 4 to 6 hours at a time and other than hearing fans kick on performance stays consistent.
It has 4...at least mine does.
I think you may be mistaking the wireless card port for an m.2 port
The speakers are really dankaf. This is where I was moved after I received my product. Btw, I did a liquid metal repaste and changed thermal pads and got a 60c idle 70-75c on full load (pubg, overwatch, etc). This was a big step up for me financially and in gamer-life, I’m super content.
I bought a new Alienware 18 with i7 4700MQ and dual GTX 770m's. On Ebay. For a supercheap winning bid. It was shipped from Hong Kong today. Can't wait to lay my hands on it. 😊

thanks linus i didnt know u already made a vid about this labtop
I have it and i love it.
Where I live (Austria) it was actually the cheapest option to get a 1080 in a laptop and because i really wanted a badass laptop i got the AW17 R4(yep i know i could've just built a desktop pc but i'm a student, i travel a lot between two homes and visit a lot of friends).
I oc'd mine to 4,2GHz (with 85mV undervolt) and with turbofan enabled it actually is able to keep up the clockspeed 100% of the time (with the rear lifted up about 2cm).
It truly is heavy though.
It uses a lot of metal, which is the main contributing factor to the weight, could've been better if Dell use Carbon Fiber, instead of so much metal.
Also 4.2 Ghz is kinda low, you using 7700HQ?
Paris Sanfasteryler for a laptop 4.2GHz isnt that low at all^^ no it's the 7820HK you can't oc the 7700hq
i could also go with 4.4GHz but then things start to get a little bit warm
i'll probably do a repaste then it might go even higher than 4.4GHz
"You can build a better desktop with that money" comments in 3...2...1
Rizvan Ferdous hi
A laptop can be a desktop. But a desktop cannot be a laptop.
Cairo Murphy If only more people got this through their heads. I always kept away from laptops and preferred to game on desktops because of their sheer power over consoles and laptops. But now, because of certain changes, I need a laptop. A desktop simply won't do me any good.
can you carry a desktop?
you can build a better desktop with that money. I made this desktop config and it costs less, but with more performance and of course, RGB:
pcpartpicker.com/list/sPDCGf
Can you compare Alienware 17 newer model vs 17 2015 model?
I bought this laptop about 6 months ago. I went for the 1070 config with a 7700hq, 16 gigs of ram, 128 gigs SSD and 1tb hard drive. I got it at best buy for $1750 after tax and I'm loving it. Also, when I turn on battery saver I can get over 6 hours on a full charge, and with the 1070 it stays really quiet. 10/10 recommend.

How can I open the laptop it’s impossible to get the screws off they’re too tight. Can anyone help?
Guys, I accidentally dropped my piggy bank life savings and bought this cheap $49.99 computer set from my neighbor (I am still building it right now)
Is this good enough? Can I run Windows Explorer very fast?

I bought an Alienware while I was down range in Afghanistan. It was a tough reliable sob but ever since dell bought them I've seen and read reviews that I'm less then pleased with when comparing them to others. I've decided to go with a vendor like sager.
By the way TN type panels are usually chosen for speed instead of IPS ones, those are faster than IPS, while IPS has wider viewing angles. That's the usual characteristics of course and each panel has their own.
Talking about the speakers, reminds me now of an old (and old I don't mean this "2016 is ooold" crap, I mean late 90s, early 2000s) Compaq my friend had, running Windows 98, that had speakers about as big as normal desk ones. Damn they sounded awesome for a laptop, even tho my old HP dv 6000 series had loud ones, those were loud AND good.
you guys should do a Electric magnetic frequency test on all laptops, why cuz apple changing the name to portable computer. emf is dangerous and it would only cost you guys 50$ for an emf reader.
Not even gonna lie, I got the one with the 1070 and forgot to buy the ssd
GibAdam CRUCIAL 525GB SSD is less than $125
@@PassportBrosBusinessClass I deliberately got the one without SSD and bought my own 1TB NVME.The one without SSD is better and cheaper-as long as you have the slots
This was the first video from this guy I could actually tolerate. He wasn't being a complete fool for once. Salute to you sir!
Looks pretty good. I had an Alienware laptop in 2009 that was garbage. I can say build quality was good though, about 2 years in I threw it on the ground and jumped on it several times, it still worked every bit the same it did before I did that with nothing breaking.

I just bought the alienware 13 r3 and love it.. dont do this linus.. dont make me wanna get this 17 to :D
Great review as always! I have a maxed out 15r3 and it's amazing, I should have bought the 17 inches tho!
ITS NOT BIGGER ITS WAMBO
review the Acer Aspire V5 Touch...
its small, just like you
I got this laptop last month and I love it. If you undervolt the CPU a bit it helps a lot with the cooling. CPU barely hits 75 under full load with a -0.1 undervolt. Laptop is fantastic and has an amazing build quality. My last high end laptop was an MSI and it felt like a cheap toy compared to this and when new, wasn't much of a price difference. My suggestion is to call in to Dell if you are considering one of these and talk to a sales person. I ended up getting it on a great deal at $2600 Canadian without the SSD (I picked up a Samsung 960 EVO on sale instead.) Also a newer bios update has made the fan curve much less wonky.
Please tell me about your experience of this laptop.. because I'm gonna buy one.. Is there any issues? Any overheating? Failures? I saw lot of bad feedbacks about this alienware 17 r5
there is actually a setting in Alienware Command Center that disabled the track pad when your palm touches it

yes but a similar build to my old rig (I7-6950X and 2 Titan Xp alongside other higher end stuff) would approx cost something around 4000++ ,

My 17 r4 lasted about 10 days before it died and eventually got returned for faults with numerous things -after- the repair. The panel's great... 1hr battery though thanks to the gsync. So many supply/hardware problems. Sort it out, Dell!
I got this alienware 17 r4 with the tn panel from best buy for $1,400 on sale. Was it worth it? You bet your sweet ass it was, im out of state so its my desktop replacement, I also love how its not RED and BLACK like every other damn recent laptop. Ive been playing all games at 1440p at max settings with 90+fps, friday the 13, battlefield 1 etc. The only downside I have is that its huge, so your not going to be taking it everywhere, but thats kinda the point when its a desktop replacement. The only con I got for mine is it blows out HOT air, it can be annoying for someone sitting behind the laptop, but thats about it, its a good laptop and everyone should get it.

Makes me wish I'd have gotten the 17" screen instead of the 14" back in 2013 but it still works decent despite having only a GT750m video card.
Dealing with this & unsure whether to order a 1440 or a 4k display on a new Alienware 17 with a GTX1080 card. Not ever using it for gaming, just a lot of creator work (Photoshop mostly), but need to run a lot of apps at once, so looking at the gaming machines with high performance configs.
Will the 1440 res TN panel play well on a 4K TV via HDMI as a second monitor, or do I need to order the IPS 4K? So many bad scaling issues with Win 10 (and a lot of legacy software) makes 4K a questionable prospect. Would value an update on this important topic! Really Dig All Of Your Shows. Big Up!!
