Music and Sfx from Epidemic Sound
DAY TWO WAS AMAZING BTW
Seen Rex commenting on it, apparently quite windy. Good for him, he had to come all from Australia.
Any news on efforts to save the collection at Newquay in Cornwall? The Council shutting the museum down for no good reason is a traavesty.
DAY TWO WAS FANTASTIC! :D :D
I would very much like to see a good video made about the history of air-to-air refueling, obviously a short one)))
A tie-in with Rex's Hanger over the show would be cool!
Britain's primary air defense is unfavorable weather.
The sky is always blue above the clouds! :)
today was my 3rd RIAT and IT WAS SHIT!
No wonder they colonized the world. Anywhere was fine as long as it wasn’t home
And the further north you get, the heavier the defence...
And hopefully some Polish pilots.
Rule 1 of bad British weather - NEVER SAY THE WEATHER IS GETTING BETTER!
Another UK rule: learn to fly in shite weather or your plane will rot in storage.
- constantly reassuring us the weather will improve
- the rest of the month is bright sunshine but the one time you need it it's raining stair rods
- sheltering with the biscuits
I'd say this video is a shining example of Standard British Rain Protocol in action
You missed the second part
- say it’s gonna be horrible weather it’s actually perfect
-wake up “oh it’s gonna be a slow one today as it’s chucking it down”
- busiest day of the year yet the moment it stops raining
Yes I’ve had a long day
Goodwood Festival of Speed was also cancelled. It’s sad so many people lost out today.
there was a missidentification at 11:39 Thats a Mk 1005C or MVC digestive. The C designates it as a chocolate varient of the standard digestive. Easy to mistake with the Hobnob but due to more advanced technology the MVC has a much smoother surface so it has less drag while dipping it into the tea.
Yes, easily recognisable from the smooth underside and the vent holes, also the word “digestive” stamped into it.
😂😂😂
Best part, my British cameraman interjected the hobnob non-correction 🫣 it was that kinda day haha
The chocolate Hobnob is also chunkier & therefore less stealthy... 😁
I think he was dreaming of a hobnob, may have made his day with ½ a pack.
We can see why the Luftwaffe had such a terrible time over the UK in 1940. The weather is the Brit's best friend and defence in the air.
Major Rainstorm may be far lower in rank than General Winter but he still has an impact.
Agreed that British weather is often crap, but the summer of 1940 was actually a good one. There are many reasons the Luftwaffe lost the Battle of Britain but the weather wasn't one of them.
1940 was a very good summer, apparently
The U.K. sea defences are currently useless though.
@@obugger Captain (RN) Eric Brown reckoned it was a score draw. Who am I to argue?
Having watched a lot of your vids on historic aircraft Chris, I loved this one, where you are not in your comfort zone, but rather like a schoolboy on an exciting trip to The Airshow. Enthusiasm absolutely undampened. Great work!
Thanks, Tim! We were rewarded with (relatively) good weather on Saturday :)
Only mildly dampened.
I appreciate your enthusiasm, Bismarck. "Typhoon! Typhoon! We must go to the Typhoon!"
I do not recall you talking too much about helicopters previously. With the pronouncement of one as "A voodoo machine", I understand why this is so.
not sure if he meant the aircraft at that point or the weather XD XD
I like how the Police Guards are staying dry under the wing of the F-35 at 11:48.
Strange they dont have a rope and military police guarding the f35. Thats how it is at US airshows.
@@TheJttv You can see the rope tied to the blue and white cones in the background, and the MP are probably those dudes under the bigger wing
I remember the first F-117 on display. Four marines with M-16s, two up front at safeties off. That caught my attention more than the plane.
@@brianreddeman951 when I was at Oshkosh 2019. You could walk up and touch the A10, F18, F16 and Apache. But the F35 had a yellow rope that said cross this rope and get shot in more polite terms. 2 MPs in full kit standing there at all times. They were nice to chat to tho as they had learned quite about the planes standing there.
Maybe thats changed as more countries have recieved them and it's less new. I think Oshkosh was the first public groud display.
@@TheJttv you crossed the wire!
Which wire?
The warning wire!
Watching Christoph running around like an excited child has made my week!🤩
With the sad and recent passing of Eddy, it is good to know that there are still other incompetent camera minions to take up the mantle... if not for the Lord of the Salt Mines.
Also, seeing Chris in his natural environment like this is kind of adorable.
I uh, had no idea. I used to watch Jingles loads but haven't kept up with him since. Went to check up on what was what and, well, yeah... thanks for bringing it to my attention, may he rest in peace.
The Danish fast flyby ...in the rain (F-16), was really cool !
Really and truly ❗
I love that at an airshow, every airplane fan ends up doing the same thing. Walking one way, hear an airplane, then turn and run towards the airplane. Great video! Hope to thank you in person during your US tour.
See you at KOSH!
You’d never believe it but up until last week, England had something like 9 or 10 weeks of continuous sunny / hot days. Panic over, we’re all back to normal now! 😂
If only
“YES, YES!!!! AFTERBURNER!!!!!!”
What we all want to do at airshows
Rain in the UK. Remarkable. Actually unbelievable. Even the Roman army complained about the incessant rain.
We're in England, and it's raining. Truer words have never been spoken 😂.
I thought the Brits called rain "Wet Sunshine".....It seems like 80% of videos I watch from Great Britain feature Wet Sunshine.
@@rogergoodman8665I've never heard that phrase before.
And somehow top gear find the dry days to run harder...
"We're in England, it's raining." Why did you repeat yourself? We heard you the first time 😂
Went to the Abbotsford (BC, Canada) Airshow 2 or 3 times -- first weekend in August -- rained out every time. People got very curious about the C-130 -- the inside of it. B-52 was also popular (under the wings). Improvised raincoats out of trash bags.
Good times!
One minute in and this already feels like an episode of Father Ted. Love it.
"KEEP YOUR HANDS ON THE SIDES."
You made me laugh while feeling nostalgic. The running around, and shouting "Afterburner!" reminded me of the times I attended airshows in the USA back in my college days in the 1980s. My friends and I were just like you, excited about seeing the aircraft, and seeing them fly.
It did seem that everytime you said the rain was stopping, it just got worse...
😂 great video. You made the best out of that day I guess. One can tell you really were hyped once an engine started roaring. I feel the same way every time I enter the airshow entrance, never gets old. Also great to see the P51 "Frances Dell" there. Greetings to Georg Raab and his crew. I made several videos with them and his P-51D. I think he wants to sell it and get something different, maybe a spitfire or corsair or something.
Either way, great video format, very entertaining!
As an Englishman we are familiar with bad weather.. but the weather this July has been appalling even by our standards!
What’s slightly irritating is to hear about Europe currently basking with a heat wave 😭
Please sun, come back 🙏🏽☀️
Reminds me of my time at.Korat, RTAFB during monsoon season. We fueled, loaded and lauched F-4 pretty much regardless of weather, especially ground support missions. Your weather.there would have just cooled things off a bit which was nice till the sun came.back out turning the base hot AND humid. 😊
Bad weather.screws up airshows but rarely combat ops.
Still looks like a good time!
My friend flies that P-51 (and the T-6 on the opposite side of the Breitling chalet)! Great to meet you at the show Chris, really enjoying your RIAT videos!
Chris, your enthusiasm is contagious. Thanks for another great video.
🇦🇺 Ha - the eternal optimist. Every time you said "it's getting better" the weather gods said "I don't think so". 😂😂
I remember the year they cancelled the whole show the week before due to heavy rain and someone complained why. The organisers posted a video of someone kayaking up the main runway.
It’s just wonderful to see a whole new generation of enthusiasts that go out to research their given subject with such passion and knowledge
617 sq living up to their motto, "After Me The Flood".
This rain destroyed my camera. It turns out DSLRs, no matter how high end, are not truly weatherproofed. Still, good show.
Edit: I saw you there but didn't recognise you, inadvertently photographing you by the Me-262
It's weatherproof not England weather proof 😅
Put the camera in a bowl of rice. At night, the rice will attract tiny Asians who will fix the electronics.
I’ve been there from Wednesday and leave tomorrow evening. This is obviously Friday, an almost complete washout. Wednesday and Thursday were warm, Sat was sunshine ,wind and showers, Today was sunshine and heavy showers and Monday will be sunny. Thats how RIAT goes. Today we saw an Me262 followed by a B52, a Harrier in formation with an F-35B, dozens of jet fighters and even a couple of German Tornadoes doing a refuelling demo behind an A400m. I’m surprised you don’t know the difference between an F-35B and a C 🤷🏻♂️
What lovely, lovely rain - the gardens need it.
Hopefully, Oshkosh will be better. In my years of going, there is usually 1 rainy bad day, and every few years there is a good storm, but the rest of the event is great.
Oh shit I love that specific F-16. It was painted like the Danish flag (Dannebrog) to celebrate (King)Valdemar's day in 2019. The Danish flag is said to have fallen from the skies during a crusade in present-day Estonia 800 years ago, emboldering the Danes to victory. It's a cool myth and a cooler paint job c:
1:41 P-51 "Frances Dell", is stationed at "Siegerlandflughafen" in Germany, close where I live. My boys (2 and 5 years old) and myself often drive to there to see it fly.
You all are looking at Eagles, Vipers, and -35's... I'm still stuck on that Ex-RSAF, now civi, KC-135R 😆 Love the camo on that bird, kinda wish our jets wore a cool scheme as well. Happy 100 years of AR!
It's a great vlog. Just nice to see an enthusiastic true aviator walk around like in a toy shop 😂🤙
I remember when the rain started on Sunday, I was trapped in one of the shops when they put their tarp up to keep the insides dry. Everyone that left always came back drenched.
Fun fact today I got to hear the afterburner of the thunder birds F-16s which was extremely awesome to hear, they go hard
Those big PA horns are the most timeless icons in all of videojournalism, from a century ago til now
I love the German sarcasm in this video! 😂
Great video, I always enjoy learning here.
I was surprised to see we moved the camera off the helicopter just as it's starting it's wing over, just to go back to it when it was done.
I've been to RIAT many a time and it's fabulous when it's sunny but an absolute nightmare when it rains. The UK is no use for airshows.
I just wanted to point out it was also pissing it down in Germany today. Britain just does it slightly better.
Chris GEEKING OUT on the Viper makes me so happy!
I was there on day 2 and the weather was better then day 1 however there was still some cancellations. Unfortunately the ME262 flight was cancelled as the wind was out of limits for the aircraft. Also there was some showers but generally an improvement on day 1 (from what I hear) 😅
Really hope the weather improves for you tomorrow, gets miserable when it's raining but I've also been sunburnt to hell and back there too.. anyway I just hope the clouds lift a little for you.
Nothing like a F-16 perfuming, I remember Snow Skiing on Mt Rueapehu, an active Volcano in New Zealand's North Island and on the ski field looking down at a bunch of Sky Hawks, F-111's and F-16's plus other aircraft having a go at each other or what ever they were doing because I had no Idea; it was amazing! Some years later a colleague of mine was skiing on the same mountain when it blew up, there was a photo of him skiing very fast, he was from South Afrika, I think he could have broken some South Afrikan skiing records that day!
Chris, I enjoy the detail that you provide on your videos, but your excitement and disappointment during the airshow truly shows your passion for military aviation. Cheers and hopes for better weather next time!
Lol! You're yelling my internal monologue at all the flying aircraft 😂
I well remember shooting for Bournemouth air fest with a female presenter. We were interviewing a Dutch F16 pilot, she commented on the fact that his plane was painted in vivid colours, wouldn't it it make it easy for the enemy to spot you.?.
He was very kind 😂..
I travelled from Sydney for RIAT. Was a bit concerned on Friday but got around it very wet. They got a lot in the air Saturday considering
Hopefully the weather will be good at Oshkosh. If you were excited by one P 51, there will probably be several there.
You're Awesome, Amigo... too Fun!!! F-35, it's hovering, umbrella, umbrella, its hovering... LOL! A FUN Video, because you made it enjoyable, memorable, even though the weather sucked, because your attitude remained upbeat and positive... Good Job, 👍🏽 I'll be watching more of your work! Take it easy and stay safe as you travel... and, keep doing what you're doing. You make the sun shine when you're having fun and its exciting and educational! All the best to you from New Mexico, USA!
6:12 Here we can see the MAH system being activated. No matter the weather, this system is capable of identifying any aircraft by engine sound alone !
July seems increasingly hit and miss re the weather in the UK. I try to go on holiday in June when it is more consistently sunnier or at least dry. Such a frustration with many of my hobbies - airshows, going out on a motorcycle or photographing heritage trains.
Mind you, probably better that it rains than the 40C + temps southern Europe is having.
I'm not at the show this year but looks like Saturday was better and more sunny weather forecast for Sunday too :-)
Years ago, I was living very close to Buckley A. N. G. B. One night I was out on my patio, and I observed an F-16 from the base take off, then go straight up with afterburners on. I watched it until I couldn't make it out anymore in the night sky. So cool.
A good example of calmness in adverse conditions and well spoken informative narrative. You both will do well. 👍👍
Glad to see the Lightning’s of Marham and Lakenheath showed up. F-35C is not STOVL, but has larger folding wings and larger vertical and horizontal stabilizers.
0:35 Videographer, you had ONE JOB!
Had no idea you were there! Was there for the full three days, Friday was absolutely a washout
The best airshow I have ever enjoyed was when a Spanish fighter came back from Bosnia and was so glad to be back that he gave a show over the beach of L'Estartit. Must have been his first piece of homeland after his flight over the Mediterranean. Can't remember the type of fighter.
You should come see the air show at MCAS Miramar in San Diego. Sun screen instead of rain gear. 3 days in October.
Similar conditions as 1994. The many trade stalls became packed with people taking shelter. Got great photos of aircraft on the static line reflected in the floods on the ramp though...
i was there yesterday, saw some very cool stuff i havnt seen before,
Some talented and gutsy pilots to fly in that mess! Great video
"the weather is getting better", with words like that you can be an honoury Brit 😂
Why thank you
We're in England, it's raining. What, rain in England?
when i saw the title i just wondered if bo and sturm snuck on a plane to do maneuvers
Indeed, I was hoping for at least the first stanza of Yellow Rose of Texas. Perhaps I should be careful what I wish for...😅
Glad I went to RIAT several times in the 1980's and 1990's. Good days...
Hello sorry to hear you had a soggy airshow I went to fairford in 2005 and again the following year totally different since COVID. But still great shows back then I lived about 40 mins from fairford so didn't have far to go.
It had a nice assortment of aircraft. One of the advantages of being in Europe. It was a good look in spire of the weather. Thanks for posting.
I was there exactly one year ago roasting in 31 degree heat and enjoying beautiful skies 😎
This commentator is at his best in depressing weather. I wish we could hang together so he could give me the highlights of my life in real time
4:01 I remember the conversation a couple of years ago, 3 years ago? On trying to get Germany to decide what aircraft to purchase. They absolutely did not want the f-35... Though I will admit, that the super hornet is a good aircraft, (in fact one of my favorites), I never understood why they even considered that over the f-35. Amazing what a little friskiness from a neighboring country can do to change your mind about military equipment)
Luftwaffe has not forgotten the F104 they were conned into buying, which killed dozens of their best pilots. We are still unsure if the F35 is another lemon.
The F/A-18 would have been much (!) cheaper. And Germany would still buy the F/A-18 but they lost their certification to carry the US nuclear bombs. And that´s what it´s all about. Germany has to participate in the so called "nuclear participation". And because Germany has no own nuclear bombs, they have to use the US ones. Germany could have the Eurofighter Typhoon get the mentioned certification but Germany would have been forced to open up all classified files of the Typhoon to the US to get it. And even beeing a NATO partner, they do not want to do that. So they had to buy an already certified jet and that´s the F-35. (I think the F-15 E would have been an option, but as european NATO partners are all going for the F-35 nowadays, Germany didn´t want to have an own solution).
Chris staring forlornly at the GlobalEye in the rain needed some sad piano music in the background.
This was a very nice Video. I liked the hot takes on that cold and wet day :)
Great to see the F16 execute a 'Derry Turn', a manoeuvre that's not seen very often these days.
this reminds me of a video my uncle made when visiting a firefighting expo. 100% same energy
That's even worse than when I went a few years back. Saw an AWAC take off though, before the weather closed in proper.
I remember going to my first RIAT as a kid and they had that Harrier doing it's party piece just like the F35B there. It was so loud it made me cry 🤣, I was like 5 or 6
RIAT is always one of two thiings, Blisteringly hot or Torential rain i dont think there is an in between. The miistake this year is that there is cricket and tennis going on at the same time, so the rain gods are out in force!
You should have come to the F-AIR in Colombia, it was the same days with almost the same exhibits but with sunshine and nice weather
It’s pissing with rain right now as I watch this
Thanks!
Thanks, Steve!
The weather is making up for last summer's lack of rain.
What you really want is a nice cold sunny winters day for this stuff. The planes fly better, and you're not sweltering (like at Avalon here in Aus). Oh well, still fun to see planes, even in the wet.
It was just as wet at Binbrook's final display with the final display of the lightning. Then as the last display aircraft landed the clouds and rain went and the sun came out.
The trick, apparently, is to go to events with me! I went to RIAT 2022 which was 2 days before we hit our 40C record, then I went to Goodwood FoS this year - it rained on Friday, they cancelled Saturday due to weather, then I turned up and Sunday was hot and sunny all day 😁
Haven't decided what my next event is, but if it stops raining in the UK, it's probably then...
I feel your pain, being British I’ve spent so many hours trudging from tent to tent in the rain and mud, much better on Sunday.
That weather is common when you go camping , especially if you go on a motorcycle.
He's having so much fun. In spite of the rain... or maybe because of it. LOL!
Totally enjoyed my day there yesterday, sadly the 262 and 52 couldn't fly as it was too windy, but was a great day none the less. Had slightly better weather than you did thankfully!
This made me smile... 😁😉👍
So cool seeing my fav planes in Denmark!!!
I thoughtthsy was you filming Friday!
Yes -was quite the torrential rain and WIND !.... stayed until they called it - soaked but happy :)
This has very chaotic good vibes
11:40 in over specified aerospace fashion : chocolate hob nobs
The 100th anniversary of air-to-air refueling feels like a good subject for a video.
