Hi Jess! The Utopian Generation by Pepetela (accent on the TE), you pronounced it really well! Is one of my favorite books by Pepetela. I read it in Portuguese many years ago. My mother is more or less of Pepetela's generation, and she was studying at the time when the independence movements of Angola and Mozambique were being formed. So she could tell me a lot about the atmosphere in the universities and the students who came from the "colonies" and lived in Portugal. The book is not as heavy as you think, because Pepetela has humor. But of course it is a difficult subject. I hope you like the book! Curiosity: Pepetela is an Umbundo word and it means eyelash, which is his last name in Portuguese. Enjoy reading! 😊📚
I’m just about to finish reading “Code Dependent: Living in the Shadow of AI” by Madhumita Murgia. Her deep-dive into the implications of artificial intelligence freaked me out enough that I may be done with heavy books for the remainder of the summer. From the Globe’s list, I’ve chosen “Evenings and Weekends.” I don’t plan on reading “Peggy” but I did enjoy Peggy Guggenheim’s “Confessions of an Art Addict” published in 1979.
Thanks Jess! I’ve added The Lost Tarot and The Art of Vanishing to my TBR thanks to your video.
So many I haven’t heard of!
Thanks for the introduction to this list! Stacking Liars. The premise of Yesterdays on the list sounds darkly comedic. 😏
I debated talking about Yesterdays too!

Oh it sounds fascinating. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on it!

I can't seem to get Evenings & Weekends here 😥. I will try to get my library to order it.
Why did you say "uh oh" after the word Zionist?
