My Archbishop (st louis) recently closed 1/4 of our parishes. To put it mildly he's not very popular right now. and while we may be hurting from this, I think a lot of people fail to realize that for a bishop to close parishes, even if it was necessary and the reasons he gave, were very practical and reasonable, it’s something that cuts them deep to the bone.
Back in Erie & Pittsburgh, a lot of churches have closed. The most painful for me was St. Stephen's in Oil City, PA. They had the opportunity to preserve it, but new clergymen wanted St. Joseph's as their place of residence. St. Joseph's is on a hill and is the older of the two, so there was definitely a lot of expense made to renovate it. They did a great job, but they took funds from St. Stephen's and St. Venatius' (Rouseville) endowment to do it. Strangely enough, before this, St. Stephen's had more attendance and also had far more parking. It also wasn't on hilly terrain, and an elevator had been installed not many years before. Alas, St. Stephen's had their last Liturgy earlier this Autumn. That church was partly the reason I took Stephen as my confirmation name. Hopefully it is given reverence. Ideally, if it can't be a church, keep it as a chapel. At least the Archdiocese of Cincinnati has done that in recent years, keeping churches as chapels. Or, if it must be sold, may the sacred art be given to Pro Life Shrine their planning outside Pittsburgh. holyprotectionshrine.org/ Forgive me please for my long-winded comment.
@@KyleWhittington I personally think he made the right decision in going throughout a consolidation program. I don’t know enough about the specific choices of parishes that stayed open or lost. But based on all the numbers in terms of baptisms versus funerals and priests, vocations and priest retirements we need to do serious downsizing in our diocese if we’re going to be around in 20 years

Same reason he isn't talking about the inhuman barbarism of Hamas, the terrorist group those same palestinians elected to government 18 years ago knowing what they were; Because this isn't the place.
