  • LCT is taking off in Latin America! Come to this Roundtable and find out about how we are building a vibrant community of researchers and educators, the kinds of work we are engaging in, and their social impact. We address these issues in three parts. First, Vicky Ariza discusses how we are overcoming our different concerns and interests through developing a common, shared problem to which we all contribute. Second, Giovanni García and Francisco Ruiz give an example of the kind of work that is in progress by discussing how the LCT notion of ‘autonomy tours’ can help understand how medical teachers make use of reasoning strategies to develop clinical argumentation, which is a key skill for students to provide accurate diagnosis which leads to effective decision making in medical practice. This research draws on the LCT dimension of Autonomy to explore how teachers use multimodal resources to promote clinical argumentation in classrooms. Third, Patricia Preciado discusses how works in progress will help address the social problems of Colombia, Chile, Argentina and Mexico and what this might mean for the future of LCT in Latin America.
