Honestly, it seems like it could work. Especially from the transition of non-manager SpongeBob to “ice cream drunk” SpongeBob.

I've never seen the film and am just gonna put my five cents to it:
The film begins with introducing the protagonist, Spongebob, and the rest of the cast, with their own strongest characteristics. Krabs strongest characteristic would be "MONEY, MONEY, YESYES" and because he's so greedy he lets another Krusty Krab being built, and Spongebob thinks he is, of course, the best employer there, but for some reason, its Squidward. Maybe because Spongebob can't take care of two at once so Krabs made Squidward number one. Krabs making even more money makes Plankton angry because that means fewer customers for him. Because of that, Spongebob gets depressed and gets ice cream drunk, but you know how drunks are, they do stupid shit. So Patrick and Spongebob somehow manage to steal some Demigods crown and he gets angry at that, and now wants to kick their arses. Krabs explains everything, and God understands and doesn't kill Eugene, but, oh no, Plankton intervenes and freezes Krabs so he can't warn Spongebob and Patrick. But the god does and cries about how THEY stole the crown(he just says it because Plankton holds him, hostage, because, no crown means no power) And because they wanna make it even against between them, they now have to go on an adventure to find the crown.
The journey is dangerous, they almost get beaten up, they have a seizure, they need a rest to eat ice cream, but, oh no, giant sea monster approaches. Somehow, they survive and see that weird ravine, and that mermaid, who's the baby girl of the God, told them that her father is down there. Stuff happens(maybe the monsters they danced for wanted ro thank them by putting them up the surface?), and they land on a swimmers back, who happens to have the crown they've been searching for. (Is the swimmer related to the crown guy? Did Spongebob and Patrick put it there drunk? Did Plankton put it up there in the name of Spongebob?)
Plankton, the true villain, made Spongebob "steal" the crown while Spongebib was drunk, and nearly kill the God guy, because he's a friend of Mr Krabs. But through the power of love and friendship, a song defeats Plankton, and the day is saved. Krabs is thankful he wasn't killed by Plankton and makes Spongebob employer of the month of both Krusty Krabs.
