16:00 - To split a 2D grid of blocks into a single line you need to set up a diagonal section where it compacts the 5 wide stream into a 4 wide stream, and so on until you got a single wide stream. There's probably many options, but you can use a standard push extender, where it uses a slime/honey block to push 12 logs at a time from the side, then you get a gap where you can push in a second stream of blocks into. Start with the case of 2 wide stream and merge those, then it should be clearer how to merge a wider stream.

Hey X! The items are coming out of the center of your item sorting portal because they're going into the center of the portal on the overworld, if you put them through on side of the overworld portal, they would be coming out of the same side of the nether portal, this is also more consistent if you use the same size of portal in each dimension, so if you made the portal on the nether side 3x3, you could make the items still come out of the center, but at that point it would be centered in the middle of a block instead of between two.
I have an idea to fix the blast chamber. What if you just had a piston feed tape that pushed the logs around in the stack they grew in? This might fix your issues
I thought about that, but there is an issue with the higher layers of logs not getting blown up as much as the bottom ones. This could be fixed by keeping the downward pistons… but yeah, good idea overall.
Although it may be a little late, at 20:00 you showed how to trigger the other pistons at the corners. A different solution is to put some string on the ice and and observer looking at it and just pull a signal from that. Looks much cleaner in my opinion. Not that it super matters though haha. Thanks for video though!
For that item sorting system; if you have a wider portal in the overworld, you can position the water stream in the corner and position exactly where you want them to be output
Xisuma, for the blast chamber just feed the logs vertically into the horizontal feed tapes. As in you have a wall of wood blocks and at the last one you have a piston that pushes them down with the "log entrance" to the blast chamber below that.
On turning a vertical column of blocks into a single horizontal row: You can have a vertical column of sticky blocks (S) and a column of honey blocks (H), with two air gaps between them. A sticky piston (Y) pushes (S) up and down, and a second sticky piston (X) pushes (H) towards (S). Adjust the timing so that neither one fires at the same time and that you get the order of events as: Y-Extend, X-Retract, Y-Retract, X-Extend Any block between the two columns will: be pushed down by (S), pulled away from (S) by (H), will not be affected by (S) retracting since it's no longer touching, then pushed back to touching (S) again, looping until it's pushed to the bottom. So now you've got a mechanism that pushes blocks downwards, you just need a horizontal piston at the bottom to create the horizontal row. Front view: (using + for air since I have no idea how to stop it formatting) Y++++ S++HX S++H+ S++H+ S++H+ S++H+ It's been a while since I last made one of these, and push limits are hit quickly enough that you may need to build a vertically mirrored below it that uses the opposite type of sticky block for each column. Depending on space concerns, you can also move (H) off to the side; all that really matters is that there is an air gap that the two columns can both touch at the same time, for some combination of piston extension/retraction.
The log piston feed tape problem can be solved if you take more space to condense the trees. stagger each down facing piston and power them alternately from the sideways pushing pistons. You have to push the bottom one 6 times faster than the others to clear it.
I don’t know why but I think this is my favorite episode of hermitcraft ever.. just the joy Xisuma spreads is so addictive to watch. Amazing stuff X, thank you 🙏
For the tree farm: Just send the logs as they are in the vertical orientation then push them to form a ring avoiding the step where your tnt-blower-uper-thingey™ pushes the blocks down. this described method will work much faster than if went from 4-6 blocks tall to 1 line of logs back to 4-6 blocks tall.
Love the way you are using the freecam mod to show the layout of your bases and farms. Especially liked how you showed the tunnel to your tree farm and then cut to the point you reached the bottom of the stairs. Really cool transition.
HEY X! To get the logs into 1x1 for your blast chamber. When you push out the 5 tall tree push it down by 1 block then the remaining 4 forward. Then down by 1 block then the remaining 3 forward....repeat. think like stairs.
"They say great redstone is built on the shoulders of giants. Not here. At Xisumavoid Science, we do all our redstone from scratch! No hand holding." -Cave Johnson probably.
When I was using a similar nether storage system for a massive bartering farm, I used tripwire hooks and string to detect the items coming into the corners and time the next launch appropriately; perhaps that could tighten up the redstone for your build as well?
I've made a contraption that could probably solve your particular issue for making a feed into the blast chamber: a "falling block piston tape". You could use falling blocks on the vertical column of trees, use a piston to push them downward. A slight delay would allow falling blocks to fall to a lower level to be pushed back up, while non-floating blocks (like wood) can simply be pushed into your blast chamber. This would 100% solve your issue, though you would have to get some of the kinks worked out with the redstone.
I'm a sucker for item storage and organization systems in Minecraft in any shape or form. A MIS and a nether ice system in the same episode, I had a good day
Item storage and organization is one of the largest satisfactions I know in the game, unfortunatley for me. I have yet to really deep dive to redstone (or mc overall) for a while, but technical mc is always very intriguing
Hey x, I think it would be cool if you used a gravity block feed tape to help push the logs down. Gravel would be inserted into the top, pushed down with the logs, then it would just fall out of the bottom allowing another row of logs to be pushed forward. Love the videos
hey x, the reason the items come out in the muiddle of the 2x3 portal is because ur sending them thru the middle of a 3x3 portal in the overworld. If you make either the nether side a 3x3 or the overworld side a 2x3 with the stream running into one side of it it should fix the problem of the items landing on the slime block and you can get rid of all the extra unecessary redstone.
I love these vids where you dive into the projects and redstone, the process is very interesting! Just wanted to say you had the right hunch on the log piston transfer thingie majig, but it's probably best to invert the order the pistons get pushed out/in :]
A simple fix for the tree farm duper is removing the catch tray and have water stream in the bottom of the blast chamber and wrap it in more obsidian just to be safe, and I suppose you could use a piston feed tape to surround where the tnt drops before triggering to conserve tnt.
The TNT duplicator could just have walls or fences around it, it won't be perfectly aligned to the obsidian block below, but it will land on it consistently
It's time to break out the professional moustache, X! Go get Mumbo and have him take a gander at your problem. You'll have to supply the goose to help make the magic happen, though... And the beetroot seeds!
I built a machine before that turns a vertically stacked log into a horizontal beam. The way I accomplished it was by putting a diagonal line of Pistons behind the wall of trees that comes out of the farm. Once the diagonal line of Pistons had pushed out one set of logs, it pushed them into position inside of a carousel that pushed each log to the left and then down to the bottom most position where an additional piston grabs the log pulling it forward and out. This process then repeats several times until the topmost log has exited at the bottom . I know that's not a great description but hopefully you'll get the gist of what I'm saying and be able to make one yourself
If you add a extra arm on the ice track it could help counter overflow by letting the items go in a circle. Atleast while waiting on the hoppers to catch up. Add in a off switch and a straight shot to fire on the same corner to help avoid lag or if your chest completely fill.
observers on Sticky pistons logs get to that then the get pushed over one another observers on a sticky piston point down pushes the log down, then another one facing your row to feed the blast chamber. Works a treat, then sit back with some scones and jam and enjoy the show.
I wonder if in your Nether storage system if you put an armor stands going along with the items in a circuit, you could use string to detect when items are there to be 'bounced'
I love that you are trying to make your own redstone contraptions, but one of the things i like about Minecraft is that you can use and improve someone else's design. There are a few 1 block wide conveyer designs out there (some specifically for tree farms). I would personally look to ilmango as he has already done exactly what you were originally trying to do. He has a number of piston conveyer belts out there and a short search will help you understand a lot if you want to build your own or use an existing design. For the nether ice piston id look at gnenbom's piglin bartering farm. I especially like the 90° corners he uses. They are very elegant. Love your videos!!!
With the item sorter in the nether, instead of using the repeater chain, just use a tripwire (string) with an observer looking at it 2 blocks before the corner. Wire the observer output to the Pistons and all's done, less laggy and less resources needed...
9:06 I think the problem there was that you were powering the observer with the button. So even though the observer _was_ pulsing, the power from the button traveling through the block overrode it.
i dont think anyone would see this but i think the best way to fix your tree problem and get them into a straight lol is using a piston feed tape... but use slime blocks to pull them up or down and push them out into a line. almost like a conveyor belt.use honey blocks attached to stick pistons to push slime blocks on a conveyor belt chain that sit next to the wood blocks coming out. now it would slow down the farm to get the logs into place but thats a timing issue i think you can figure out. please try this and see how it works
X, how about the good old triangle method? Put pistons in a diagonal to push the blocks downward, and it'll turn the vertical line of blocks into a horizontal one. That said, you'd still need a way to push the horizontal stream forward, since it'd result in the entire tree's worth of blocks turning into a horizontal line at once.
Last episode I gave minesweeper a try. I always wanted to play it but I didn't know how. I learned the basics and man it's addicting. I'll definitely be playing it more. Thanks for inspiring me to give it a shot, Xisuma!
Awesome episode! That’s a cool way of sorting items in the nether! Can’t wait to see how you decorate it inside and on the exterior to in the future! Keep up the fantastic work! Have an amazing week! See you later!
Funnily enough, I actually remember seeing someone dealing with your exact problem of "needing to get logs in a line to explode them effectively" - I've been watching old Etho videos, and in episode 441 of his letsplay, he builds a "sandwich press" that turns vertical tree trunks into a line of horizontal logs. It's an older version of the game, but maybe you could reference his build for your blast chamber design?
It could be cool to have some overgrowth on the ribs by the tree farm entrance, that way its a little more visible and would tie in the entrance to seem like it interacts a little more with the ribs.
On the neither farm you could have it spit out on an ice stream and then aline them with sea pickles or candles or walls, then send them on their journey. ;-) You could also multiple hopper minecarts on the corners of blocks to open up the hopper chain bottleneck.
about the blast chamber. I saw a cube hamster Video. If you put a piston with a slimeblock next to a line of blocks you van make it behave like a linear actuator. so if you put one of those next to the row of blocks and then a smart pusher at the bottom you can just make it lower or raise into the smart pusher
something that could be cool when the base is complete would be to commission an artist to make an anatomical sketch with cutaways like in old biology textbooks, that shows where everything is inside.
I think you can force the items to come through one side of the portal by making the overworld portal much wider and only sending items through one side. Zedaph did this with his porcupined arrow contraption video.
If you need to convert a wall of blocks into a line, you would probably need to take the width down one at a time with a diagonal set of pistons that get fed blocks by a straight line of pistons at the top. Then you just need to make sure your farm isn't producing blocks faster than the piston responsible for moving the one wide line of blocks can handle.
Your piston worm idea was basically right, just gotta change up the timings and woring. another possibility is using a flying machine, though it would decrease the speed.
What's the benefit of passing a farm output into the Nether to be sorted and stored? I can see the benefit of passing it all over into the overworld as you'll be able to use water streams but I can't figure out why anyone'd want to bring items into the nether and then try to make a sorting system.
Because portals in the overworld can be fairly spread out while all still being linked to the same portal in the nether, this can be used to greatly reduce the amount of item transportation needed to make a farming district all go to the same storage. This reduces the total time each entity is actively in the world by getting it into storage faster. Thus reducing server load. Plus, I think X is just enjoying playing with the technical aspects.
X; let's take a massive Overworld farm and send stuff into the Nether Iskall; let's take a massive Nether farm and send stuff to the Overworld Next thing you know there'll be farms moving items to and from the end
If you run out of content, definitely check out various hermits, season 7 was especially fun all around and still feels mostly like modern Minecraft. (The nether update came out half way through) Admittedly Hermitcraft is generally best when watching all perspectives you care about concurrently and its more work to do that for past seasons.
that is a 1.9 million item sorter the equation is: stacks in a chest (64) X stack size (64) X the chests per row (8) X hopper lines (57) *note this dose not include the hopper's inventory so there would be maybe 2.3 million then.
For the tree farm blast chamber - couldn't you just have your row of 6 logs being pushed, then it pauses the line of 6 getting grown (so not as long). At the end of this now paused line, put a piston at the top facing downward, which pushes the (furthest away from the growth chamber) column of 6 logs down - so the bottom log is below the line. Then, more this long away (perpendicular direction) from the row of columns, so that a line of 1 comes out from below at a 90' angle?
For the storage system what if you created a funnel that uses pistons to align the items as the come through first before pushing them down the ice path? Similar to gnemboms gold farm storage intake? You can also use powdered snow in the ether to align items maybe that could help? Also since you are using tweekaroo maybe think about using carpet too? For your tree farm you could use the command /player xisumavoid use continuous and then pop out into free cam and you’d essentially have an auto clicker and be able to diagnose the tree farm while continuing to place saplings. Just a thought.
Here's a lil tip for your Issue with the log stream: the logs come out as a 5 high block stream (lets say they're going north at this point) Push the middle two blocks west Push the top and bottom blocks into the middle spaces Push the new middle blocks west again Push the top and bottom blocks into the middle spaces Finally push the new middle blocks west again This results in a 2 high block stream going west which can be converted into a 1 high blockstream going north or south using a simple block detector (torch under the log powers the log, this activates a piece of redstone which powers a piston pushing the logs) Hope this makes at least a little bit of sense, good luck! P.S. if you want a full solution just msg me and i can show you a simple one :)

Adjust the timing so that neither one fires at the same time and that you get the order of events as:
Y-Extend, X-Retract, Y-Retract, X-Extend
Any block between the two columns will: be pushed down by (S), pulled away from (S) by (H), will not be affected by (S) retracting since it's no longer touching, then pushed back to touching (S) again, looping until it's pushed to the bottom.
So now you've got a mechanism that pushes blocks downwards, you just need a horizontal piston at the bottom to create the horizontal row.
Front view: (using + for air since I have no idea how to stop it formatting)

It's been a while since I last made one of these, and push limits are hit quickly enough that you may need to build a vertically mirrored below it that uses the opposite type of sticky block for each column.
Depending on space concerns, you can also move (H) off to the side; all that really matters is that there is an air gap that the two columns can both touch at the same time, for some combination of piston extension/retraction.
High capacity double speed sorter from Cubicmetre is pretty good for sorting large amount of items. It's take some afford but work really well.
Could use that for bulk storage and send the rest to maizumas v4 multi item sorter
14:46 X you can configure that mod to allow right clicks so you don't have to exit freecam mode to place a sapling
You need a piston feed tape for moving the logs into the blast chamber from the automated tree farm.
I'm glad you showed a more finished product at the end but wish you'd highlight it more so we can have a sense of fulfillment at the end.
3:16 You sure did rip out that chest. There's nothing left in there.
Hey x,
I think it would be cool if you used a gravity block feed tape to help push the logs down.
Thank you Xisuma.
I love these vids where you dive into the projects and redstone, the process is very interesting! Just wanted to say you had the right hunch on the log piston transfer thingie majig, but it's probably best to invert the order the pistons get pushed out/in :]
18:55 The tnt randomly jumps to the side with each detonation. You will need to: 1) Widen the hole or 2) Put blocks around the TNT to restrain it.
A simple fix for the tree farm duper is removing the catch tray and have water stream in the bottom of the blast chamber and wrap it in more obsidian just to be safe, and I suppose you could use a piston feed tape to surround where the tnt drops before triggering to conserve tnt.
That tree dodge was epic! Nice reaction! 😀
21:36 this clip is always funny no matter whose pov i watch
observers on Sticky pistons logs get to that then the get pushed over one another observers on a sticky piston point down pushes the log down, then another one facing your row to feed the blast chamber.
The nether storage systems are def tricky. Double speed hopper filters helps pick up more items on the second pass.
Thank you for posting today! Many people appreciate the escape.
9:06 I think the problem there was that you were powering the observer with the button. So even though the observer _was_ pulsing, the power from the button traveling through the block overrode it.
The mining animation of the pickaxe is hilarious
i dont think anyone would see this but i think the best way to fix your tree problem and get them into a straight lol is using a piston feed tape... but use slime blocks to pull them up or down and push them out into a line. almost like a conveyor belt.use honey blocks attached to stick pistons to push slime blocks on a conveyor belt chain that sit next to the wood blocks coming out. now it would slow down the farm to get the logs into place but thats a timing issue i think you can figure out. please try this and see how it works
you could always use a piston feedtape with slime blocks to move the logs into a horizontal line
Hey X, how about you add some overgrowth to the tree farm entrance? Maybe some vines made of leaf blocks growing around the rib cage.
On the neither farm you could have it spit out on an ice stream and then aline them with sea pickles or candles or walls, then send them on their journey.
;-)
You could also multiple hopper minecarts on the corners of blocks to open up the hopper chain bottleneck.
about the blast chamber.
I saw a cube hamster Video. If you put a piston with a slimeblock next to a line of blocks you van make it behave like a linear actuator. so if you put one of those next to the row of blocks and then a smart pusher at the bottom you can just make it lower or raise into the smart pusher
@xisumavoid you can find an explanation here: ruclips.net/video/KIuuEqMHSTA/видео.html
Not sure if it only works with slimeblocks or if a line of tree trunks works as well. Might be worth a try?
What kind of madman moves items from the overworld to the nether to store them.
I love it
if they get spat out, they have momentum so you can use blue ice to transfer them
I just ate my first homemade Tikka Masala. It was a blast to cook and enjoy!
something that could be cool when the base is complete would be to commission an artist to make an anatomical sketch with cutaways like in old biology textbooks, that shows where everything is inside.
Addendum: You would likely need obsidian underneath each pistons in the diagonal line so that they don't get pushed around.
Yeah someone explain
Because portals in the overworld can be fairly spread out while all still being linked to the same portal in the nether, this can be used to greatly reduce the amount of item transportation needed to make a farming district all go to the same storage.
This reduces the total time each entity is actively in the world by getting it into storage faster. Thus reducing server load.
Plus, I think X is just enjoying playing with the technical aspects.
I think it also affects lag
X; let's take a massive Overworld farm and send stuff into the Nether
Iskall; let's take a massive Nether farm and send stuff to the Overworld
Next thing you know there'll be farms moving items to and from the end
nice knowing mine sweeper worked out!! great videos as always
I love xisumavoid
The giant skeleton base is one of the coolest Minecraft bases ever.
9:18 "we got a clock" **shows a pulse extender** "a pulse extender" **shows a clock**
I first started watching HC last season, I only watched Mumbo and sometimes Grian, and that 'routine' was ' killed' after watching your video's.
If you run out of content, definitely check out various hermits, season 7 was especially fun all around and still feels mostly like modern Minecraft. (The nether update came out half way through)
Admittedly Hermitcraft is generally best when watching all perspectives you care about concurrently and its more work to do that for past seasons.
@@jasonreed7522 Thank you, I'll definitely do that.
Because of random momentum of the primed TNT I'm usually use stone walls around it to funnel it in the hole
that is a 1.9 million item sorter the equation is: stacks in a chest (64) X stack size (64) X the chests per row (8) X hopper lines (57)
*note this dose not include the hopper's inventory so there would be maybe 2.3 million then.
Then, more this long away (perpendicular direction) from the row of columns, so that a line of 1 comes out from below at a 90' angle?
nice to hear malcolm's music in a video, fits very well :D
For the storage system what if you created a funnel that uses pistons to align the items as the come through first before pushing them down the ice path? Similar to gnemboms gold farm storage intake? You can also use powdered snow in the ether to align items maybe that could help?
Also since you are using tweekaroo maybe think about using carpet too? For your tree farm you could use the command /player xisumavoid use continuous and then pop out into free cam and you’d essentially have an auto clicker and be able to diagnose the tree farm while continuing to place saplings. Just a thought.
That is a crazy amount of chests! I'm glad all those items won't be going to waste anymore :D
During these bad times I find it relaxing watching Doomguy dealing with storage issues in minecraft. Thsnk you Xisuma.
Here's a lil tip for your Issue with the log stream:
the logs come out as a 5 high block stream (lets say they're going north at this point)
Push the middle two blocks west
Push the top and bottom blocks into the middle spaces
Push the new middle blocks west again
Push the top and bottom blocks into the middle spaces
Finally push the new middle blocks west again
This results in a 2 high block stream going west which can be converted into a 1 high blockstream going north or south using a simple block detector (torch under the log powers the log, this activates a piece of redstone which powers a piston pushing the logs)
Hope this makes at least a little bit of sense, good luck!
P.S. if you want a full solution just msg me and i can show you a simple one :)
