  • Timelapse of the thatching of the famous Truro Cathedral crib. It was first thatched in December 1961 by Roger Williams and John Dyer who can be heard in this video. Our thanks to Paul Goldsworthy and the team from G W Viant Thatchers who thatch the roof each year.
The story of the crib dates back to 1960 when the base, which supports the crib itself, was constructed. Since that time there have been a couple of structures sitting on the base, with the current crib dating back about twenty years, built by Adrian Miller. The main crib figures also date back to 1960, with the knitted guests at the inn being added later.
The crib remains in place until the Feast of Candlemas, the 2 February.
