And the land over the Narva river there was not "the Russia". It used to be Ingermanland where the Ingerians (Vod+Häme Finns etc) lived for the two thousand years. At least. In 1917 there lived about 130 000 Ingeri-Finns, now less than 10 000! You know why? Good to see the formation of the Estonian militia. Now let's see the same thing happen in Latvia and Lithuania. Estonia is committing the necessary money, training time and material on their militia and within a year they will be ready to effectively defend their country. Now the Estonian militia needs to do training operations with their professional military so they can easily integrate with them when necessary. The keys to this are integrated command structures, unit cohesiveness and training, training, training. Perhaps the next NATO exercise in Estonia will include the Estonian militia.
Estonian Defense League (the militia) has been doing training exercises with our Defense Forces (mandatory service) and professional soldiers (those who participate in NATO missions) and NATO forces for years. This is not a year old thing.

Evan Filemon Most of the older generation can speak russian as it was mandatory to speak it during Soviet era. I remember what my father said about learning the language. He went to serve in red army somewhere round black sea. And he said ''If you couldnt speak russian it was beaten into you'' everybody coming out of red army could speak russian. Also many lessons in school wer russian only. After the 90's and when we got our independence everything has shifted to west. +pewpewpew That's the best reason for Russia to invade Estonia i've ever heard
well they didn't really capitulate. they signed an armistice
Finland had a huge teritorial advantage.
+Born2BWild the only reason USSR didn't annihilate Finland in 1944 is because Stalin wanted to finish of Germany as quickly as possible, and finns expelled the germans in the lapland war, luckily for them germans didn't have enough strength anymore to retaliate. They also ceded the second largest city in Finland to the USSR
So Russians living in Estonia, being disproportionately represented in parliament, ie a vast MINORITY, complain about not being represented adequately, yet living in another country that is NOT Russia? I don't get why they would even think they can be upset by this? That would be like myself living in Italy, being Greek, complaining the Italians don't listen to what I say? How very odd!
They are hypocrites.
Typical Russian behavior
Estonia...Latvia...Lithuania....Putin has pissed off a lot of old Soviet bloc countries!! And now Sweden and Finland are joining NATO!
They have been there since the times of the Soviet Union it’s their land
As a citizen from European union...we stand together...If Estonia had 1 day russians trying to invade..we all are going to fight with you Estonians...if something similar happened to Polonia ..the same...we all together will fight russian army or any other.🇪🇺🇺🇦🇵🇹🇺🇲❤
I think this is pathetic - and just words.
Nonetheless I hope for it being true;-)

The Estonian militia is a force I can get behind, they’re preparing for an actual treat unlike the “ militia” here in the US. US militias are on threshold of becoming domestic terrorists. Estonians are actual badasses.
They're just as paranoid as American Militias man, Russia is smart enought not to mess with NATO, which completely surrounds them.

This Narva-based "Russian chief" is especially insolent fellow (нахал) - a picture of comrade Stalin on the wall and he dislikes NATO soldiers in a sovereign country! Vladimir Petrov is a Russian citizen. The most of the Russian in the East-Estonia (Ida-Virumaa+Narva district) came here less than 60 years ago, average is about 45-40 years!
And the land over the Narva river there was not "the Russia". It used to be Ingermanland where the Ingerians (Vod+Häme Finns etc) lived for the two thousand years. At least. In 1917 there lived about 130 000 Ingeri-Finns, now less than 10 000! You know why? Comrade Stalin, whose picture the insolent fellow had on the wall, deported them already before the Second World War. Rest of them were sent to the Siberia after the war! How you call it in a International Court? The G E N O C I D E !

Emmm... Narva was taken by The Russians Empire during ''The Northern War''. Since 20th August 1704 to ~March of 1918 it was a russian city.
It's almost 214 years.
@@lovepeace9727 What u said doesn''t really make sense since finno-ugric tribes were the first ppl to live in northern europe and lived there for 1000s of years (over 10000 if i am correct), so by that logic it should actually belong to one of finno-ugric tribes as well as nortehrn Russia. Also Estonia (including Narva) was part of Swedish empire and Narva was built to be the second capital of Sweden.
Eem and before ww2 Narva population was 65% estonians and 30% russians.

There is so much foreshadowing in this peice. Vice has actually become one of my favorite news sources. They cover things no one else is paying attention to and go places and speak to people no one else pays attention to.
Yet not much mention that Estonia is in NATO and if Russia attacks it's basically starting WW III. They left that part out....
As an Ukrainian I do like Estonia and its successful choice, but unfortunately it's too late for my country... NATO didn't come to us and probably they won't.

+Mark Fenton What if hypothetically Russia annexed the entire the Ukraine and Putin was the president? What would change?
+elslavador You dumbass. The east is a fucking slave of Russia who is the one who started this mess in the first place. The east is full of fucking brainwashed fucking idiots who bomb villages daily killing hundreds of innocent people. Ukraine is taking its land back that was illegally seceded from by the pro Russians. Wake up and stop watching Russian propaganda.
+The atheist Muslim Can you define what is the "Ukraine"?
PS by the international law everything was done correctly, it was illegal by the the Ukrainian constitution, but so was the impeachment of Yanuk, so was the Majdan, so is the ATO/war against Russia/civil war or what ever you might call it. In fact the economic blockade of the Donbas has been concluded illegal by the Ukrainian constitutional court I believe in September. This word is meaningless since Ukrainian government its self break the law with impunity.

im i the only one wondering how many people in Estonia speak English?
jingle bells Everybody
here's a chart compiled by some Czech fellow
jakubmarian.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/conversation-english-eurobarometer.jpg
from personal experience:
Back when I was graduating high school (2006), all but one guy who had a bit more trouble with English.
Afterwards I was in a vocational school - car technician - I'd judge 3 out of 30 to be able to hold a conversation in English.
later I went to IT (again in vocational school) - everyone knew and understood English.
old people are a lot less likely to speak it though.
jingle bells we have to study english in school
daniel dubrov can u guys speak Russian or other Slavic languages since Estonia was part of Russian Empire or Soviet Union for many years?
Evan Filemon
Most of the older generation can speak russian as it was mandatory to speak it during Soviet era.
I would say about 90% of younger generation can speak (or atleast understand) english. Nowedays in school you have options to chose 2nd foreign language after English (English is mandatory) and quite many students pick German or French over Russian language.
