I met Gina Birch when I was 19 in the mid-1990s. We hung out at her place and she gifted me a cassette of a group she began with Vicky Aspinall in the wake of The Raincoats’ dissolution called Dorothy. The Sweetest Pain was about going to an attractive therapist’s office and laying their couch… “but talking is all you ever want me to do”. I don’t have the titles in front of me. Chrysalis sat on the record. Gina was really nice to me. The newly reformed Raincoats were about to travel to Zurich for a show. I adored Moving and Odyshape.

Does anyone know why these tracks were not reissued on CD? I wanted to ask Ana or Gina in 2012 when the Raincoats performed live at Chop Suey in Seattle, but never had an opportunity. And then The Body was removed from digital versions of Moving and replaced with Running Away.

That's cool thanks for the story. I have a Dorothy 12". Still holding out hope that the Raincoats do a more extensive tour in the States one day.
Love the Raincoats. My favorite song is "Shouting Out Loud"
Very excited to hear this. I wrote the lyrics all those years ago. Never heard the final product

Honey mad woman
Forgets her table manner
Oh don’t take her his/(s)tory
She breaks the rules for all to see
Double beat
Double beat
Double beat
Double beat
Double beat
Make us combined
Double beats
makes us dance
Double beat
Your secret lie
double beat
Frustrated glance
Our summer never ending
Broken bread with honey glaze
silver smashed the gold descendant
Sacred beat the world's ablaze
Luncheon, mee(a) t a friendly gaze
Use the fish knife in your eyes
Gaze across the white cloth table
Finger licking not allowed
Honey mad woman
Forgets her table manner
Oh don’t take part in(g) story
She breaks the rules for all to see
Double beat

Double beat
Make us combined
Double beats
Make us dance
Double beat
Your secret lie
double beat
Frustrated trance
Let us w(h)ine into the waters
sip the saline from her face
brother sisters divide the water
Honey dew from lost embrace
Bones and meat are left to scatter
Roots of history planted deep
Totem planted in grey matter
Dream the fantasy wake/in(g) sleep
Dream the fantasy
Dream the fantasy
Dream the fantasy
Dream the fantasy
Dream the fantasy
Wake and dream
Dream the fantasy
Wake and see
Dream of fantasy
wake in two
Dream of fantasy wake in two
Dream the fantasy break in two
Dream the fantasy break into
Dream the fantasy wake in two
Dream a fantasy wake into
What makes me think the Raincoats are gonna be huge someday? Maybe even one day soon.
Probably the fact they are a gift to us mortals.
So glad someone finally uploaded this to RUclips.
Great song. Great sound.
COSMIC SOUND!!!
YO!!!

Odyshape was my favorite! Undulating bass lines felt so "organic" and natual.
yea the original UK version of the LP has 3 tracks that weren't included on the reissue - honey mad woman, avidoso and dreaming of the past.

The lyrics posted here are slightly incorrect. It's Taboo beat, not double beat. :)
The Raincoats: like the Slits, but good
That's literally the worst comment ever posted anywhere.
@@JasonPilley Lot of stoopid on the Tube. I thought it had got better in recent years but no we have us a mighty fool!
lol
They were influenced by the slits. If you don't find the slits good then it must be the fent impairing your quality taste.
