Equanimity - "mental calmness, composure, and evenness of temper, especially in a difficult situation"
Each year my friend Natalie chooses a 'word of the year' and for 2024 she chose equanimity, which turns out to be a perfect word for the past 11 months (my word was 'organic' which also guided me through the year in my own different way).
I had also been fighting a sort-of writers block - for much of 2024, my musical creative energy was virtually gone. It wasn't just there wasn't any new ideas, there was no desire to try. So on November 9th, I pushed through, sat in the studio and created this album from start to finish in 5 hours.
It felt great to shake off the creative cobwebs and it's been a while since I made an album of pure ambient music - the last one was almost 3 years ago, so I felt it was time.. especially with the current state of... well, everything
It also felt like I needed to create something into the world that would hopefully provide peace, calm and some solace. Natalie's word 'equanimity' fit the music, it fit the headspace I was in and so it became the name of the album.
