    Best guess for air date of Prize Show.
    23:04 It's March 17, 1989. The mattress commercial showed a copyright date 1989 with phone number.
    29:10 Ad for Sport Travel and Outdoor Show March 10-19
    Judging from the St Patrick's Day Green deco on the show and the tax refund seasonal commercial for Check Cashing it's March 17, 1989.
    The Prize Show was on daily in the afternoons and this is the likely date.
    John Lanigan is retired living in either Colorado or Florida as of 2024.

    These local independent channels really made TV feel so familiar and comforting. Cable now is just so bland, homogenized and "culturally neutral" it's no wonder no one pays for it anymore.

    I don't know why, but this just now popped into my head and I went to You tube and did a search and this popped up and was just uploaded 3 weeks ago! I grew up watching this in Polk Ohio

    • @tmawlam
      @tmawlam  2 года назад +3

      Finding this was a complete fluke. Borrowed this tape from a friend (who himself got it from someone else), got it scanned, and found this on it. Since I had gone through the trouble of getting it scanned, I thought I'd upload it to RUclips.

Yes, Polk store has been there for well over 50 years! It was called Neils market when I was living there in the 70's and later the Polk Country store! • @vjmlhds
      @vjmlhds Год назад +2

      Lots of people have won it...more often than not though it took awhile.
      At one point the jackpot reached over $3,000 before there was a winner.
      Every time there was a winner, the jackpot reset to $5, with $5 being added for each incorrect guess.

    • @PerceptionIsReality9
      @PerceptionIsReality9 Год назад +2

      @@vjmlhds The $3000 movie was called 'The Black Orchid'. Although obscure, 43 actually played it twice on the overnight movie during the jackpot run because they were afraid that no one would be able to guess it. It ran for over 3 years until someone finally won.

    • @vjmlhds
      @vjmlhds Год назад +1

      @@PerceptionIsReality9 They were probably starting to sweat once it hit 3 grand. I doubt they would have wanted it to hit $4K, and they'd be reaching for the tums (and/or vodka) if it hit $5K.

      I remember a fellow from West Virginia winning. Evidently he was a film buff and didn't even need to see the clip; he was just waiting for John to call. I worked nights in those days and watched the Prize Movie 100s of times.

    I've been eating the Cold Cut Combo since around this time. Just cheese and mayo. Damn, I miss the bread being cut like that.
    I miss John Lanigan, Big Chuck and Lil John (Hoolihan was before my time), and most of all Marty Sullivan as Superhost (I got to correspond with him before his death and when he passed he was only an about an hour and a quarter from me).
    I wish I could buy a TV station. I'd make it just like classic Cleveland TV.

      Fig Newton was the host's name. _Prize Movie_ was dropped in the summer of 1993 in favor of a three-hour daytime talk show block comprised of _The Jenny Jones Show,_ _The Ricki Lake Show,_ and _The Joan Rivers Show._ Upon _The Joan Rivers Show_ ending in late 1993, WUAB management put out a press release announcing _Prize Movie's_ return effective with the week of Jan. 10-14, 1994. The picture show was canceled again, this time permanently, in the summer of 1994.
