CaMSIGN was delighted to host Professor Sheila Singh of McMaster University for the 5th session of its Women in Neurosurgery Series. Dr. Singh has been at the forefront of Pediatric Neuro-Oncology and it was an honour to welcome her to share some of the most cutting-edge discoveries in the field originating from her laboratory. Dr. Singh also shared valuable insights about starting a laboratory as Principal Investigator, maintaining academic commitments, and excelling in Neurosurgery.
About Dr. Sheila Singh:
Dr. Sheila Singh is the Chief Pediatric Neurosurgeon at McMaster Children’s Hospital and Professor of Surgery and Biochemistry. She is Division Head of Neurosurgery at Hamilton Health Sciences, and the inaugural Director of McMaster’s new Cancer Research Centre: Centre for Discovery in Cancer Research. She holds a Tier 1/Senior Canada Research Chair in Human Brain Cancer Stem Cell Biology and is Director of the McMaster Surgeon Scientist Program, which is a part of McMaster’s pre-established Clinical Investigator Program that provides research training for surgical residents.
Since 2007, Dr. Singh’s lab applies a developmental neurobiology framework to the study of brain tumorigenesis.
