    BEST High End Tower Speakers? - Q Acoustics Concept 500 Speaker Review
    High End Tower Speakers. Q Acoustics Concept 500 Review
    Q Acoustics began as an audio brand focused on provided the best affordable speakers possible. Providing awesome sounding speakers for the budget conscious audiophile has always been their bread and butter. Q Acoustics has dove head first into the high end speaker game with their new tower speaker, the Concept 500.
    It's not uncommon for high end tower speakers to cost more than $10,000. The Q Acoustics Concept 500 Floorstanding Speaker attempts to upset high end audio at almost half the price while not sacrificing sound quality. These stylish tower speakers are easily purchased through Amazon at a time when most expensive speakers are only available at dealers. Q Acoustics 500s have their iconic styling, complete with an MTM driver array. Whether your shopping for a stereo speaker system or high end home theater speakers, the Concept 500 should be on your list.

    Incredible job with these reviews, Andrew! Most RUclipsrs exagerate with the energy pushed across the screen, but not you! Really soothing and relaxing delivery every step of the way, while also being informative and opinioned. We are really spoiled to get such high-quality production for the price of seeing a 5 second ad.
    The only negative with this channel is that there's NO CAUTIONS or DISCLAIMERS to warn you that these videos can very easily get you hooked-on to one of the worst addictions (for your wallet): becoming an audiophile. As one of your early followers, I'm really considering rehab.

    Just wanted to say thank you Andrew. It was your's and a couple of others review of the XTC amp. It started me on a journey. Checking out those reviews as I was thinking about purchasing it. I came to your channel to see your's. It was a great sounding review but you caused some curiosity mentioning the Drive Core 2 amps. Well I started checking out what you were saying about them and noticed it was a reasonable buy in on 1002 to taste it. I seen a couple of other reviews that were good on it but felt like some may have been holding back. Finally I decided because they were easy and fast to get I would grab one on Amazon. Needless to say I am impressed. Last Amp I was using was the IotaVX that was pretty neutral. Not nearly as neutral as that Crown though. Not to mention it is very resolving for the price and does not hold my JBL 530s back on sound stage. Have it paired up with Marantz HD DAC-1 a Turntable using that IotaVX as a preamp the JBL 530s and the matching JBL subs. It is a very enjoyable listening experience.
    So thank you Andrew for putting me on to those I am enjoying the music this set up provides. I am still considering the XTC trying to decide if the improvements will be worth it or when I upgrade going a step or 2 over these. Anyway thank you again. Never be ashamed to talk about these things they are incredible entry points into the hobby. You would have to spend a nice piece of change to get there in the home retail market.

    Great review Andrew, I own a pair of Q 3050i's and am very happy with them. They surpassed all my expectations. That said if my budget would have stretched to a pair of Concept 500's I would have signed on the dotted line in a heart beat. More so now after watching your review!

    Loving your and Kristi’s content, definitely one of my favourite channels.
    Something I think would be helpful in reviews such as this is a visual representation of the size of the product. For example if you’re reviewing a DAC hold it, reviewing a speaker stand by it (tower) or sit by it (bookshelf)
    As this review is old I’m going to post the same comment in a more recent review.
    Thanks 👍

    I have a pair of Q 3050s hooked up to my Cambridge audio cxa80. These speakers are extremely well balanced, smooth sounding with full bass. They are very easy to listen to for long periods of time. They are way better than the Paradigm monitor 7s I've had in the past. In terms of bang for buck, ive yet to see them get beat.

      I auditioned these at home and agree they are really really nice. They lacked a small amount of attack vs my B&W 804d3's. 804's also handle more power. But I think most people would find the 500's are well into the point of diminishing returns.

    I own their cheaper 3050! In white. I think pair is $600 and they have 30 day home trial. Fit and finish is better than lot more expensive speakers. Amazing sound as well. Sound matters but also does looks and Q acoustics look amazing in living room.

    • @MrTuneCrave
      @MrTuneCrave Год назад

      It's easy to sound very negative here but the 3050 are a very very different speaker (apart from the speaker array) . They're tuned completely differently. Much much softer and 'warmer'. The far cheaper (yet still expensive) concept 50 and 30 actually sound very similar to the 500's though far less capable. The 3000 and 3000i series couldn't be tuned more oppositely.
      While they're not as 'capable' as a 3050i pair in a large space, the concept 30 are the best value 'high-end' speaker I've come across in my 10 years in retail hifi and they give you a fantastic taste of the tone the whole concept range aims for if you choose to scale up to the larger floor standers or the 00 series

    Q Acoustics speakers are very vintage amplifier-friendly. The 3020is which I have is basically a test drive of the Q Acoustics sound and really love the sound. Do not mind saving up and procuring concept 500s, and getting my Pioneer A-9 amplifier recapped and the potentiometers and switches cleaned up. If you do not listen to music to more than 75 decibels, you might be able to get away with low-wattage tube amplifiers depending on the size of your room.

    I was eagerly waiting for your review of the concept 500. I'm Seriously thinking about going for these towers. It will all depend on the bass, midrange and treble performance. Not sure their bass will be as deep as I'd like with 41 htz, but won't know until I demo them. My room is 16 foot by 12 foot so they may be ok. As for looks they are lovely in black/ Rosewood, however I do wish they had more wood than they have. I love the stands also. Great review once again Andrew. One thing I will say, I would have liked to have seen a front ported design for ease of room placement.

    • @tbear2327
      @tbear2327 4 года назад

      I owned the 3050's for about 3 years, and even though the i's are supposed to be better, it's apparently only subtle. Still, providing you pay attention to the acoustics of the room (more important than most people realize), with good source equipment, both 3050 models are very very good, especially for the money. The Concept 500's though, just take everything to a whole new level. I did need to place better bass traps and diffusers in the room though. Presumably because, even though the 500's have a lower frequency of 41Hz, my ears tell me the bass goes down far lower. In fact, I have a test record which starts with 20Hz test tones and goes right up to 20KHz. I'm using a Rega P6 with Nagaoka MP500 cartridge going through a Schiit Mani and then through my Naim Uniti Atom, and the 20Hz tone can be felt, while I can hear and feel 30Hz, so I think Q Acoustics may be quoting very conservative figures when it comes to the 500's true frequency response - which is the reason why I had to add some more treatment to my room. So, with the 500's you definitely won't need a subwoofer. The 3050's though, yes, a subwoofer just to cover approximately the 20 to 50Hz region.

      @@tbear2327 Thanks Rachael. I absolutely agree with you. I have a QA3060 and QA2070 subwoofer. Oddly enough I have a Rega P3 and Nagaoka MP110 and my Shiit Mani is hopefully being delivered tomorrow!

      We love the Heresy IVs and while they are our reference we don't feel the Concept 500 is marketed to same type of customer nor do we feel they are similar enough to warrant a direct comparison. For me personally, I'd rather have the Heresys but that's more of a personal preference rather than one is better than the other (if that makes sense).

    Looking in the same price range and speakers you have reviewed, how would you compare the Concept 500 with the slightly heavier (118) lbs, Polk Audio L800? I’ve only seen videos of them at Marantz PM-10/SA-10 press releases with the late Ken Ishiwata. For the record, I own the PM-10 and SA-10 but paired with different speakers.

      Not everything that comes in for review makes it on the channel. It would be a complete waste of our time and yours putting together a video of something that ultimately isn't good. I try to be fair to every product that I review and if you watch a video all the way to the end, you'll find the things that I found that I didn't care for or felt could be better. If you aren't making it that far, then you are getting an incomplete picture of what I think about a product. I've said many times, if we are sponsored, you all will be the very first to know because it will be mentioned right in the video. So, if you don't hear me say that, then the video wasn't sponsored. Beyond that, hopefully you get something from the time you spend watching videos here. Truthfully, if it's in a review on this channel, it's probably pretty darn good.

    Hi Andrew. You may be able to answer a question for me. Just prior to you reviewing the Concept 500's I bought a pair. My main system is a Rega P6/Ania, Schiit Mani, Cambridge Audio CXU, Cambridge Audio CXA60, and originally, the Q Acoustic 3050's, although now of course, I'm using the Concept 500. To say that I am impressed with them would be an understatement. Even with the CXA60 integrated, they sound very good - certainly in a completely different class to my beloved 3050's. Of course I am going to upgrade my amplifier to something like a Hegel, Naim Uniti Atom, or possibly even a NAD M10 to get the best out of the 500's.
    Now my question for you Andrew, is "Did you, by chance, try the Concept 500's with your beloved Crown XLS1002?" If so, what were your thoughts of the Crown integration with the 500's? Why do I ask this question? I also have a Crown, although it is the XLS2502. Now, I have tried it using the pre-outs of the CXA60. I won't tell you which I thought was better, i.e. CXA60 or XLS2502, but would be very interested to hear your comments. When you reply, I'll tell you what I thought about the Crown/Concept 500 combination.
    Regards,
    Rachael.

      I did briefly and didn’t care for the pairing personally. It was fine enough but just wasn’t my favorite.

    • @tbear2327
      @tbear2327 4 года назад

      @@andrewrobinsonreviews - Thank you for your reply. Please bear in mind that I'm being hyper critical in what I'm about to say. My thoughts of the XLS2502/Concept 500 was a bit mixed. Bass was quick and tight, although lacking a very minor amount of texture. Upper bass could have just a little more body. The midrange was transparent, but again, to my ears at least, lacked the body of the CXA60. What I did like was because the XLS2502 was so transparent in the midrange, there was a sense of almost being able to see (hear) through the midrange mix. Still, I think I like foregoing just a bit of the transparency for the extra body of the CXA60. Because of the extra body of the CXA60 voices had that really nice sense of the performer being in the room, whereas with the XLS2502, voices sounded like they were a little bit further back in the mix - I think this might be what many people might describe as "thin" sounding. I didn't really have much of an issue with upper midrange/lower treble. Here, both amplifiers sounded surprisingly similar. Treble though, just lacked the delicacy of the CXA60. While the decay of, for example, cymbals was still audible with the XLS2502, it was much more evident and more easily discernible with the CXA60. Possibly a lack of top end extension with the XLS2500? Hmmm, maybe. Then there was the issue of clarity in the treble domain, although possibly it was not a lack of clarity, but more a lack of "sweetness" in the top end which the CXA60 has, but is lacking in the XLS2502. The XLS2502 can sound a little brittle as well in the top end and consequently can lack the ultimate clarity in highly detailed mixes.
      I could go much further in my comparison and describe sound stage and depth. Suffice to say, the CXA60 presents both in a more convincing manner. Still, the Crown XLS2502 is an amazing amplifier for the money. Of course, the CXA60 is not perfect either, but it does present the more enjoyable listen. When all said and done though, what my observations really highlight is the fact that the Concept 500's can very easily pick out differences in the source!
      I also mentioned in my original comment that I'm thinking of buying a Hegel (H90, H120 or even the H190 if I can extend my budget that far) , Naim Uniti Atom or even the NAD M10, so I'd be very interested as to whether you are going to review the M10. At the moment I'm leaning more towards the Naim with its huge draw card being its excellent streaming facilities. Ultimately though, the Hegel may possess the better sonics to get the most from the Concept 500's. Still, the NAD M10 (and Naim Uniti Atom) offer more convenient streaming facilities as a one-box solution. So, yet another question - when will you be reviewing the M10?

      @@tbear2327 I own concept 500 too. I previously matched them with cambridge audio cxa80. The result was so good that there was almost no need to upgrade the amplifier. This is how I was feeling with that combo! Cambridge audio cx series is very value for money In my opinion. Full body sound with good detail.Concept 500 are stunning and seem they do not need very expensive equipment to sound good.

      @@gmamou6862 - I'll admit that the CXA series by Cambridge are definitely excellent for the money. Still, I'm now waiting for delivery of a Naim Uniti Atom. I'll report back as to what I think of this amp in comparison with the CXA.

      @@tbear2327 Yeap, waiting for your feedback. Now, I own marantz pm ki ruby which creates wider soundstage, excellent sweet tonal balance, delicacy and detail. But I am not sure if it is 4 times better(costs 4 times more) than cxa80... And cxa80 has a little more vivid sound and more bass. In its price range is great.

    As a humble suggestion I'd like it if I could get to understand the specs a little more? I'm not spec obsessed but ironically as a result it's hard for me to understand where my money is going just looking at a series of numbers and symbols. Having a little frame of reference for how a given product compares to its competitors on paper can be nice. It'd also be fun to see where the specs really show through compared to the real world performance; otherwise I love the format.

    Thanks Andrew, great review. I own some QA Concept 500 since 3 months ago. Now I’m looking for a matching integrated amplifier for them. Currently using a Moon 600i, but I miss the foot tapping factor, freshness, liveness and more bass weight. All my sources are digital, being my modded Mac mini with JRiver the main source. Do you thing the Technics SU g700 will do the trick, and take full advantage of Concept 500 capabilities? I don’t have the chance to demo this pairing, but I’m intrigued about the technics potential and very good reviews. Thanks in advance!!!

      Buy the Atom. Yes, only 40 Watts, but then it is Naim watts we are taking about here. :)
      The combination of Atom Ant/Concept 500 really is a marriage made in heaven.

      They put chrome rings on the drivers in the 30XXi series. Horses for courses, too showy for me. If the Q logo were chrome though (and moved to either top or bottom) I think would be nice.

    Have you ever tested or listened to Emotiva loudspeakers?

    • @andrewrobinsonreviews
      @andrewrobinsonreviews  4 года назад +2

      Yes, many. I was present at Emotiva when they were being developed. I likely will not review them on this channel as a result, but if you want my opinion on them, they're good. I don't care for their look, but that wasn't my call, but sound-wise, they're great value for money and just plain good loudspeakers in general. Their subwoofers are especially good IMHO.
