I use regular sowing needles for bodkins They work great in size 24-26 eyes for handling while drying etc. also when using for glue or resin they cut the amount by 50-60%. Great for midges.
I started using darning needles at first but didn't like the length of the cone at the tip. If you take a look at a blowgun dart you'll see that it is much shallower staying sharper longer. Also at the tip you'll find a flat area that allows you to pin point place the correct amount of CA or UV Gel.
Thanks so much, that's very useful. Could you please post links to the source of the orthodontic rubber bands and the smalller ligature ties please. I need to know exactly what to look for to find them locally. I think the will also work very well around the first section of my euro nymphing rod to hold the dropper fly. I currendly use a doubled small rubber band, but I think those ligature ties sound perfect.
