    OMG. I thought this was another BS RUclips video. A friend of mine came by and I had set my dead batteries to the side for recycling. Six total. He started putting the bad batteries in with the good batteries in the container with all my new batteries. Same type of batteries-Energizer. So I knew two out of eight we’re good and six we’re bad. I did the "bounce" test. I wish he would’ve explained why the good batteries were heavier or didn’t bounce. I didn’t want to invest in a battery tester. I have a tiny electric motor that I have used in the past for testing batteries and there was no way for me to discern the good batteries from the bad batteries. Thanks for this video. You absolutely get a thumbs up.

    You my friend are a genius lol.. Not only did i fix my mixed up batteries, but it also "activated" my new batteries somehow. I put my new ones in my mouse but it didnt work, so i doubted the new batteries were even new. After i gave them a couple bounces there was a clear difference between the ones that were really empty and the ones i thought were empty. Also after a few bounces i put the new ones back in and the mouse worked just fine. Magic.

    • @benjamindavis8906
      @benjamindavis8906 2 года назад +2

      That’s not what it proves. If it proved that, then the battery with more mass (the full battery due to E/c^2 = m, energy is proportional to mass) would bounce higher due to having more kinetic energy on the fall. The larger mass energy an object has, the larger kinetic energy it has (KE= (1/2)mV^2). The larger energy it has, the more it will retain on the bounce and at the top will have a larger potential energy (PE = mgh). If potential energy is equal to Kinetic since energy is retained in a system, gravity (a constant on earth) and mass (in the system) are the same, the height must change. It must be greater. If this proved that energy has mass, it would have the exact opposite outcome. The full battery would have more bounce.

    • @Fuffcat
      @Fuffcat Год назад +1

      @benjamindavis8906 you're both kinda wrong. Because batteries don't store "energy". They are not bottled lightning lol. They simply move chemicals from one end of the cell to the other. This chemical reaction when closed in a circuit will CAUSE electricity to shoot out from it until all of it's chemical is spent and then you charge it up and send it all to the other side again (except in the case of alkaline which is an irreversible process)

    • @Fuffcat

    The bounce levels off at 60% which is worn but far from dead. Anything less that 1.36 or so (1.3 in general) is too drained to do anything despite still having over a volt left. That dead one could have 1.42 and still bounce since it's close to dead anyway. This is still definitely dead. Never saw a 1.5 go over 1.5. Still 1.5 regardless.
    How little should a fresh one bounce if it does?

      Depending on the device (ie, most devices AA and AAAs are used in) you sir couldn't be more wrong. Not only is 1.4v far from dead, but most devices made for 1.5v AAs will live all the way down till the total voltage is 1v. And many flashlights and computer mice/clocks/remotes live until the voltage drops well into the 0.9s and 0.8s..

      In a simple circuit like a mini fan or an incandescent flashlight you can run your battery as low as you want until you are not satisfied with the airflow or brightness. In more advanced electronics, it similar but behavior will not be linear, it will cause sporadic diminishing of function in your device. It really all depends on how much annoyance you are willing to put up with. Hope this helps.
