- When you need to relax while flying, sometimes doing something silly makes the world a better place. Mark realised I was just working too hard and used a funny technique to make me relax and this helped a lot. The subsequent circuits afterwards were much better and even the next day, I started to feel much more comfortable.

Wow! Can't believe how little tension is required on the bar to fly the ultralight. Great instruction from instructor and we'll flown .
Its the lesson I should have remembered from when I flew with Jim, my Sub 70 instructor. On calm days yes, very little pressure, when its rough you have to assist a little bit just to keep going in the right direction. Both Mark and Terry are great instructors and give so much confidence.
Its such a good feeling when you nail a glide landing from a long way out.
It was certainly a good lesson. More fun and games to come.
A superb instructor. I think you and I are similar in that we overthink things and overstress a bit in the need to 'aviate' and, crucially, to be SEEN to be aviating. One of the best lessons I had was being told to let go. "See, Dan - the aircraft flies so much better without us messing about with it." Great vid, Giles - loving watching your journey you lucky *beep*. 😉 Keep 'em coming!
I thin so Dan, I'd not thought about 'being seen to aviate' and I suppose thats what I was doing subconsciously. Its been a long time coming and I'm enjoying the journey. Loads more highs and lows to come.
Grinning from the man hug - so funny. Great lesson about getting wound up in the circuit. Appreciate you sharing your lessons Giles. Thank you
Hi Doug, its all about developing and sharing it with others.
What another great video Giles and bought back so many, great memories for me as well. I hope your partner isn't the jealous type with all this cuddling going on LOL!!!
I'm glad they are bringing back memories. Nope my better half is more than happy when I go off flying, she doesn't know about the I flight cuddle though.. 😂.
Great video Giles, it really shows off how little input is required, after all they are designed to fly. Looks like you’re making great progress. Mark seems like a very solid instructor, loved the bear hug 😂
Haha, yes Mark and Terry have really helped my development. It's those little things that you'd never know if you are flying on your own. It's been a real giggle.
Well made and interesting video, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was only at the very end that I realised where you were flying, I did my paragliding tow conversion there about 12 years ago!!
Hello Morris, it's been a while. A few things have changed there, you should go back and have a look.
Spectacular video Giles. Mark is one hell of an instructor. The quality of your footage is amazing!
The wing is a GP3+, I have a 6 and 7, so nothing state of the art or current. Can't afford too much😉.
I enjoyed that Giles. Best video of the series so far. 👌
Hi Trev, yes, always good to have a cuddle in flight. Loads more to come and I think you are in the background of one of them.. I seem to recall😉.
@@GolfFoxtrot22 Yes I have spotted me, 👍
@@trev.lee.adventure Its a few weeks away but i'll try and tag you.
The Hilton Hug! Sounds like a cocktail at a fancy hotel! Good to see the progress Giles.
Hi Rob, I'll have to get some branded T-shirts for Mark. Progress is being made..slowly.
Really enjoyed this lesson... Well done... you both seemed very professional .. You are so lucky having a great trainer like that.
Hi Al, yes I do feel very lucky to have both Mark and Terry on my new journey.
Haha. Brilliant. Best one yet!
Cheers Jamie. It's a good one, but more fun and games to come. Have you been back recently?
Golf Foxtrot 22 Sunday hopefully!
Great episode, loved the over control cuddle, did make me chuckle. Looking forward to next weeks episode.
Hi Rob, Next weeks video is a slight detour but you'll like it.
Man I hate it when its so hard then the instructor makes it look so easy!!! Exactly the same thing happened to me and yeah it makes you realise how much your are trying to force things to happen when you really dont need to. Great video as always! Love the debriefs as well.
Hi Trevor, yes it did feel a bit like that....and the words 'do less' came flooding back as Jim my Sub70 instructor mentioned this a while ago. Its still make me chuckle. I'm glad you like the debriefs, I wasn't sure but many seem to like them, so I'll leave them in.
Hey Giles. I have been following your flight journey for quite a while. You’re videos are excellent! Thanks for sharing the experience!
Thanks, I'm still having fun and its never going to replace the day job so I can remain honest. It's such good fun making the videos and sharing, what I hope, is an honest account of my adventures. Plenty of videos to come in this series. I can relate to your channel name ;).
Lol. I'm not going to lie. I stole the channel name idea from you. Hahaha. It's my initials. I'm hoping to place an order for an Aeros ANT in the next couple of months and I want to put up some videos of my progress. Nothing on my channel yet.
Haha, that made me smile. I can't wait to see your progress.
Great video - thank you for posting. 👍
If they help others, the world is a better place. Loads more to come.
I used to over complicate things during my training as well. Great instructional video.
Mark and Terry have made my training so enjoyable. Thanks for watching.
Nice one Giles, just home from a lovely evening lesson up here, and caught myself over-controlling it several times - mantra to self, just relax, the plane flies itself beautifully!
So it's not just me then.. Haha. Its great to know that people can relate to these videos of my journey.
Your smile 9mins, brilliant!
The Hilton Hug obviously works ;)
Awesome to watch Giles, thanks for making this series as I am also doing my training on a QuickR having done stalls on my last lesson and noticed how hard I was working. Need to relax more. I’m looking forward to circuit work up next so really enjoy your vids. Keep it up mate 👍🏻
I'm glad my videos are helping, I just noticed there were not any flexwing lesson videos, I hope the debriefs help and add to the video.
Golf Foxtrot 22 yes they do, thanks again
Good instructor Mark !
Hi Lee, yes, very encouraging and has pushed my flying. That flight seems so long ago now.
Another great vid Giles.
Thanks Richard. I'm sure it brought back some fun memories of your training.
Nice cuddle at 9 mins. Everybody likes a cuddle. 👍
These are good to watch, good to see you being challenged with new things.
It's always good to have a caring and reassuring instructor. It still makes me laugh looking back at this flight.
I think a lot of us feel the way to show we are good is to try to be slick and fast (I know I have done it on RT and my RT mistakes video really showed me that I need to slow down on my RT and think), it can be the same with check lists (I found I was rush them a few months ago), the lesson is enjoy all aspects of the flying and take your time to enjoy it. The relax while flying is another one, my old instructor (in my Chipmunk days), would tell me to shrug my shoulders as soon as we turned final and to relax (I still do it if the conditions are challenging, just to get in the right mind set). My wife has told me I have to do my validation flight on a flex wing, I think there is an agenda there!
Hi Algy, I'm sorry this video didn't put her off. The next 2 months of weekly videos won't either. You'll have to try and fly to Darley Moor. Once I get my NPPL I'll ll have more fuel to come and visit Northrepps.
@@GolfFoxtrot22 Yes as long as there is not too much head wind I could do that in one. I think I am going to end up paying for the wife to learn to fly, not sure if that is good or bad.
@@flyingkub it means you get to sit in the back.😏
@@GolfFoxtrot22 So an impact cushion in front. Great!
@@flyingkub I'll leave that for discussion at your end... Leave me out of that debate... 😂
great flying in your Super Sport. Do you need a special license to operate it?? Since you are a fixed wing craft with motor, like a small plane, though you are not fully enclosed. Thanks for any information you have... 👍👍👍
Yes, a National Private Pilots Licence is required as its definitely above the Sub70 exemption.
@@GolfFoxtrot22 that's what i thought, as you are almost a small plane, thanks
great stuff might have to get an experience flight in a microlight
It was the instigator for me. Gerry at my local paramotoring field offered me a flight, it was all from there for me. Do it, you won't regret it, your bank balance might though. I'm not sure when Airways are starting air Experience flights though.
I was suffering from same infliction touching bar to much. It can fly better than me. Never had cuddle of mark yet will pop up and have one.
I'm sure they are not limited. :) You'll notice in later videos, I'm now much more relaxed.
What medical di I need to get nppl is it clas 1.2.3 or is there any atoll and can I fly fixed wing microlight with nppl thanks
I can answer the basics but any more details can be obtained from the British Microlight Aircraft Association website. To fly a fixed wing or flexwing microlight you need a self declared medical, if you can drive a car, you can fly. Its the same licence for both aircraft . I'm assuming you are in the UK.
@@GolfFoxtrot22 yeah I'm in uk thanks a million man legend see what I mean like so much detail thanks again
@@deonogorman928 Glad I could help.
