      I think the same! and you are so right about the "proportions 100% correct" not being so important! It was I´ve been thinking all this time as an sculptor- Amazing content @Miriamhoffmann please keep it up!

    This is one of the most useful videos I've ever seen about proportions! Very well explained and laid out. The concept of gravity (should say "graphical" gravity) was new to me and it's brilliant! Thank you for sharing!

    I have struggling to draw faces in an organic way. I kept looking at digital art tutorials in vain. I can’t believe the amount of useful information you have given in a single video. You have changed my life. I love drawing with chaos and struggled to control it. You have shared such amazing techniques that my heart is beating so fast trying to turn on my drawing tablet to try them out

    I am so bad at proportions. In addition, I don't have a good grasp of line work. There aren't lines there, my brain doesn't want to put lines there. There are different colors. This has made things really hard for a long time.
    This is so incredibly helpful.
    Thank you so much.

    Miriam I always enjoy your videos, I’ve got to disagree in the proportions, haha I care a lot about them, and notice them a lot, for me if I’m doing a portrait for a client, proportions have to be spot on, otherwise I just gave them plastic surgery. I understand your style is a lot more expressive and modern but for portrait painters I think they are super important.
    But I do agree that they are not the only thing that matters

    • @Miriamhoffmann
      @Miriamhoffmann  Год назад +1

      Totally valid! This method isn’t for anyone. That’s why I included the part about if 100% accuracy is your main goal (for example- working on a commission) then you’d probably be best served skipping this video 🥰. My goal with portraiture is always to achieve likeness and capture spirit, not necessarily create an exact copy. These methods let me do that. If I was painting a commission and needed to get everything 100% spot on, I definitely would take a different approach ( like use a projector or do a transfer). So I totally get where you’re coming from. All just depends on what your end goals are!

Even though i do digital painting (I wish i could do it physically but I dont have enough space and I'm financially strict) i still follow your tutorials on youtube while painting on my tablet ^^ they're really nice and the marble trick actually helped me!!! Thank you! I'll finally be able to study my favourite artists next week at the museum for free, I'll be sure to use your tricks when possible!!!!

    Yet again this is timely for me. Graduate residency just ended, and the majority of comments about my work had to do with letting go of the concern for realism/accuracy at all costs and not being afraid to distort the forms if it looks better. Thanks again!

    This is such a great video! I've always used guidelines to get better accuracy as my paintings always look way off without them, and I never had the patience whenever I try to paint without them. I love the many tips you gave here and I feel like I'm more confident to try again without guidelines and be more patient and to trust the process!

    Good tips! I'd gotten to thinking I'm pretty good, then a week ago, I simply could not get a head right. It ain't like riding a bicycle. (I'm definitely buying the idea that Caravaggio used a camera obscura or lucida, but that still doesn't explain how a hard-drinking thug could come out of nowhere and handle light and dark and paint the way he did.)
