Kelly Ripa on Husband Mark Consuelos' Narcolepsy
• Kelly Ripa on Husband ...
That is a telltale sign of narcolepsy. Have him diagnosed, Kelly, seriously.
I wonder if she knew that Jimmy actually has narcolepsy
I'm diagnosed Narcoleptic and I used to go to the bathroom at work to nap when felt sleep attack coming on. Never got caught but can imagine how embarrassing that would be.
I have narcolepsy and would do the same thing. Now I have totally flexible jobs, so not such and issue. But, it's a rough life. Trying to pretend you are ok all the time.
I do the same but for uni
Yeeeeep. From what she says sounds like he does legit have it
Kelly is a great story teller.
her husband sound like me. i drank a 5 hour energy shot and took a nap. lol.
Lol
5:06 he wakes up for certain things !! HAHA
Her husband is HOT. Like, beyond hot. Lucky lady.
And lucky guy ! :)
+avril14thlove she's always yakin about her freakn' family;i like her,but it gets tired. while not gorgeous, she's pretty hot, too.
+avril14thlove Actually he's the lucky one =)
Nicole Smrekar We're all just people. To say, that one, is luckier than the other in a relationship,is dumb. Even if we know them, it's dumb,to say. People, don't need to be compared to one another, like slices of pie.

I must disagree, everyone brings different things to the table, some people bring far more than others though. Life isn't fair, now that's not to say that I don't wish that it was.
A few facts, only 20% of people with Narcolepsy are actually diagnosed. Narcolepsy his a terrible disease and most people wait way to long before seeking help. Everyone with narcolepsy does not have Cataplexy. Cataplexy is one tell tale sign of narcolepsy. Emotions but the most common is laughter, that trigger a cataplexy attack. Cataplexy can drop some people to the floor or some people with mild cataplexy just will lose the ability for half a second to a second either to hold their head up, or arms will fall to the sides or knees feel like they want to buckle, or a mix. There are other side effects that are sleep paralysis and hallucinations that are crazy life like. And there is lucid dreaming when you drift off, you stay awake and move in to a dream. A lucid dream can be really fun and the Nightmares are pretty scary when you have to live them. Please share this info if you know somebody with sleep problems, Narcolepsy is not the joke people make it out to be.
its not a terrible disease and cataplexy isn't that bad i have them both , narcolepsy isn't terrible its just very hard to get the diagnosis
itsjust chloe narcolepsy and cataplexy affect everyone differently so just because it may not be bad for you doesn't mean everyone has it that easy
Shades shady it took 4 years to finally get diagnosed with narcolepsy. The medicine Xyrem has completely changed my life and makes it worth living again. Serious problem for sure.
Narcolepsy IS terrible for me and it pretty much ruined (at least greatly altered) my life. I have had it since at least 1984 and it took me ten years to get a diagnosis despite going to many MANY doctors. I started having symptoms when I was 15 years old. The indescribable tiredness is one thing, but the sleep paralysis, hypnagogic hallucinations, and lucid dreaming were enough to make me think I was absolutely losing my mind or being tormented by demons! I still have mild PTSD from the horrifyingly real nightmares I've been having for the past 25 or so years. The scary dreams and SP have disappeared for the most part - they tend to come and go. But if I stop taking my narcolepsy drug "Provigil" they will come back with a vengeance.
I suppose everyone's experience with narcolepsy is subjective; try living with it as a teenager, undiagnosed for ten years back in a time when "no one" had narcolepsy and it was a RARE (haha) disease. At age 20 I went to my doctor and told him I think I have narcolepsy. He literally laughed in my face and said "I doubt you have narcolepsy, that's really rare!". After much discussion he told me he would send me for a sleep study to "humor me". He was so ignorant he sent me to a sleep apnea doctor (not even a sleep clinic!). The sleep apnea doctor shook his head and was disgusted when I told him about my treatment from my doctor. He thought for a moment then said "I'm going to refer you to Dr. Mark Mahowald, he's one of the top sleep neurologists in the country". (He was in Minneapolis, MN).
I guess the last laugh was on my very ignorant and very arrogant doctor after my two day sleep study was completed and Dr. Mahowald walked into my room and told me "You were right all along, you knew it, you have narcolepsy". He then apologized to me - on behalf of all the doctors I had been seeking answers from the previous ten years - for all my years of untreated, dismissed suffering...which caused me to lose my career as an RN. The story is just too unreal and way too long to tell it completely. It devastated me and I am still upset by it to this day.
Donna what a story. Doctors think they know it all, and have forgot to listen to the person who knows their body better than anyone. I had the same thing happen to me by my sleep doctor. So how are you now? Taking xyrem?
I can fall asleep anywhere, too. This video makes me feel a little better. 😂 The other day I was looking for something under my passenger seat and fell asleep with my arm under the seat.
I think Kelly is adorable
Jimmy Kimmel plays down his Narcolepsy, but it doesn't have simple symptoms and being afflicted by it can have many negative effects upon your lifestyle and those about you. I know how ex Sarah Silverman shrugged off the idea of Jimmy having it in a very negative way. Narcolepsy is a seriously disabling condition in extreme cases and has destroyed my life, I have probably always had it. But like many pushed it to the back of my mind, blamed it on another illness or lifestyle choice. An example of how strong the sleep attacks are is that I fell asleep next to a Speaker at a gig and it destroyed my inner ear. When I finally collapsed and could not blame it on anything else my life changed. I take a mix of 15 tablets a day, if you suspect you may have Narcolepsy see a doctor and demand to be taken seriously. Narcoleptics are x7 times more likely to take their own lives than the national average, You need help and can be treated for this and the tetrad of the conditions symptoms.
I wonder why Jimmy doesn’t mention he has narcolepsy here. I was hoping he would.
Hi, I was just reading through the thread here, and I have written this elsewhere but thought it was important for me to share my experiences too. Narcolepsy seems to be different for everyone as to how extreme it is and what symptoms they experience, and what drugs will help to combat it so by no means is my experience applicable to every narcoleptic person but I have not even been able to speak to someone with the same condition before, so id like to share my story and also I think it puts into perspective how serious the condition really is, for anyone questioning this in the comments below:
I had very early onset REM sleep, with Cataplexy.. To the point when at its worse every night rather than falling asleep I would fall directly into sleep paralysis and I would hallucinate, have out of body experiences, id have an intense ringing in my ears if I tried to close my eyes with a sensation that I can only liken to being just about to fall off of the edge of a cliff. Basically I was in REM sleep both before going to sleep and after waking up so the onset was basically non existent. My sleep was so bad / non existent for months last year and I was losing my sanity, hallucinating, lack of sleep can have interesting affects... I couldn't move, if I tried to walk down the street id collapse in cataplectic episodes like 10 times in a 5 minute walk, which made things impossible, I remember times collapsing to the floor like a rag doll, I remember feeling my spine fold as the muscles in my back were totally paralysed and then id be stuck in that position for minutes before I got any motion back, many times with my head and neck in such a position that it made it very difficult to breath. Honestly I thought I was going to die and if I thought that if I had to live like that then there would be no point in living, I smoked a joint and started getting sleep again and have recovered massively but still live with the underlying condition.
I am happy though that I have been through and endured and came out of the other end I would not change it sheerly for the gratitude for life this experience has given me. I feel that my strength has been tested and i've passed.
Also, the treatment, specifically modafinil has been a massive game changer, and I only now realise that I was severely disadvantaged growing up in school, at university etc. It's feels great to finally feel awake and be firing at all cylinders for once! Thank god for science and medicine.
I was told that if a fraction of the funding that was put into other condition, or even other charitable avenues like animal care etc, was put into the cure for narcolepsy, we would probably have a cure by now, as there are clear routes that can be taken to in scientific research which just have not happened due to lack of funding, - as it is a 'rare' condition there just isn't much funding unfortunately.
Saying that, I believe that Narcolepsy is not as rare as they think and in actual fact Narcolepsy from what I have gathered is merely a naturally low amount of Hypocretin hormone, which a healthy person can deplete too, if a person with naturally low levels does the same things to deplete this though, then their remaining amount of hypocretin is depleted to the point where they become so affected that their symptoms cause them to seek diagnosis and treatment. My hunch is that many people who take naps during the day, find it hard to fight off sleep are narcoleptic but they have not been through the perfect storm of factors which would completely deplete the hypocretin in the brain of this sort of person and lead to symptoms which justify seeking medical attention. I imagine that all of these people are technically narcoleptic, and that narcolepsy is a spectrum that relates to the amount of hypocretin remaining in the body, rather than a 'have it or you don't' kind of thing.
I have never spoke to another narcoleptic person before, so this made me spill my heart and thoughts bit.
I hope you all remain strong and accomplish everything that you desire in life - if you are going through anything like what I did, there is light at the end of the tunnel and if anyone has any issues feel free to reach out to me
She's so smart and funny!
I love her omg.
I can sympathise with exactly what she's saying. I did the sleep test for my diagnosis and they told me I can fall into deep sleep within 3 minutes. :^)
Same with me. Were you diagnosed with or without cataplexy? I was diagnosed with cataplexy and before I started the meds it was a pain in the ass because I'd laugh or get angry and my knees would buckle and cause me to fall.
drowsy bunny With. Same here.
Is. Kelly and Mark still trying to figure out if there marriage still ok
SAME. And I dream in my 10 minute naps.

I think I love her
Narcolepsy is a real disease and not a laughing matter. He needs to go to the doctor and find out.
2seegullies it is a disorder not a disease 🙃
Not a disease it's a cronic sleep disorder and I am now offended
@@SalutoRomano010 you're putting too much of a negative connotation on the word disease, it doesn't always mean some incurable virus or something, it just means simply dis-ease not being at ease
I have narcolepsy as well. I can sympathies. Kelly is pretty.
Thank you.
Look I think she missed the innuendo Jimmy was alluding to at the end. 🤣
Love Kelly
She is living proof that some people really are super skinny, healthy and happy! Eat your hearts out all you skinny-haters!

We get snow days the first couple then a blizzard comes in March and they are like "sorry parents we are outta snow days. Betta getcha chains."
Even on proper meds you can take them and fall asleep. It's mostly about staying active during the day and having prescribed naps of necessary.
With progivil and xyrem I can live and work, diagnostic at 21 years old, after years of destructive comments about my supposed laziness even if I was on the breaking point by working hard as a nurse student, waking up early for 12hours long day at the hospital, until my doctor send me to a neurologist, after 3 days of tests night and day I knew that I was blaming myself for nothing since high school...
My brain doesn't produce orexin, my sleep cycles were simply chaos with mostly REM sleep (dream sleep) and not enough deep "recover" sleep...
Every day I acted in an hyperactive way in order to stimulate me and never sit down too long, I didn't sleep a lot in fact, 8hours adding nights and the mini naps occurring in classroom for exemple, a lot of narcoleptics didn't sleep a lot but very very badly that's the key point, you're always like if you were at the nightclub all night and sleep 2hours...
I hope one day more and more young people can have the diagnostic early, because that's destructive all the comments you receive all your life, destructing your confidence, your social life, your school days...
I am in that position as well-trying to get my life back.
I’m just starting to get my life back and I’m 31. My self esteem is still at a zero bc all I can hear is how much I’ve been told I’m lazy, useless, a burden, and how I’ll never amount to anything. I finally have meds I need and I make a point to inform EVERYONE I have a condition, I never want to be called a lazy drug addict again.
@@meganmichaud2417 I feel for you guys, I didn't know whether I would be alive for much longer this time last year but now im better than I ever have been, stay strong guys, relax, exercise, eat healthily, you will make it out of this a better person with appreciation for health and life that a healthy person just is never going to have.
I've never heard of narcolepsy until recently, I've been diagnosed with obtrusive sleep apnea, I've never been tested for narcolepsy. Watching from London UK.
I have narcolepsy and coffee not good for narcoleptics. The stimulant in coffee makes you more tired. He needs treatment. I'm on meds and still get cataplexy which makes me drop when my legs get numb. I can fall asleep anywhere.
i don't like coffee but i didn't know coffee isn't good for narcoleptics , I'm on meds for narcolepsy and cataplexy too
It's bullshit. Coffee, or caffeine more specifically, is bad for everyone. Stimulants just *don't work* for narcoleptics.
Source: I have Narcolepsy w/ cataplexy, I can drink 5 red bulls in a row and not feel even slightly more awake.
Stephanie gone Wild I agree. Coffee makes me crash harder. Anything caffeine really. My husband found out the hard way, and me too before I was diagnosed with Narcolepsy without cataplexy that it's best not to use coffee over the period of long drives. I can sometimes handle it for short periods of time, but other times, caffeine does the opposite for me. Know and test yourself before you do something that requires awareness and safety. On road trips, I use hotels and rest stops because I don't want to endanger my family or others, and I also found its not always good to drive in the heat of the summer. And when I go out to see movies or am in a dark place, I am most likely to fall asleep. So, it can ruin the movie, or a fun moment, but I usually feel it coming on, and can tell someone that it's not them, it's me and can make a joke about it before I start on full dozing off to sleep.
This is pretty funny. Lol.
720p in 60 f is so relaxt to watch
Funny!
ELEVENTEEN, SHE SAYS ELEVENTEEN, TOO.
She seems like one of the few "high profile" celebrities that is down to earth and sincerely approachable...Although I find her a bit too skinny overall she seems like able
Good Job Mark
where is his old outer. "makes sure to have a stuipd argument in the comments section". Can't believe he removed that.
Because of dumbasses like you.
Soooo I'm not the only one good :-). I'm I guy and I fall asleep on comfortable Bathroom mats all the time lol
I 'm a woman and I've done it too! Several times!! My narcolepsy started in about 1984 (when I was 15). I could sleep anywhere....ANYWHERE! Even stairs looked cozy to me, lol. Seriously.
Donna the struggle is real lol
My boyfriend can fall asleep anywhere anytime too. I take hours to fall asleep at night and it has to be a bed lol. I’ll never understand it!
Sounds like sleep apnea more than narcolepsy
Sleep apnea is problem in breathing while asleep
@@bintequtub6203 Sleep apnea causing sleep deprivation... the same as narcolepsy... so they both cause people to be exhausted non-stop and catch sleep whenever they can because of the sleep deprivation. The snoring is a symptom of sleep apnea though and not narcolepsy. It could be many things and thus he should go to a doctor.
Did she know Jimmy had narcolepsy also?!
I was wondering the same thing
Does he deny it?
Faith!
Can't tell if she knows the joke that's going on at the end there
1x while scuba diving, due to narcolepsy, I fell asleep at about 12m under the surface.
I did this as well many years ago before I was diagnosed.
IT'S ELEVEN NO TEEN AT THE END 0:13
shes such a fire chick
is this 50 fps?
he needs to go get checked. that sounds like narcolepsy
Mark sounds like I used to be. It sounds like he suffers from severe sleep apnea
Mike Fleet Yes. The snoring and falling a sleep are both symptoms of sleep apnea. It can damage the heart if you don’t take care of it.
He’s burnt out listening to her for so many years. Yap yap yap 😂🤣
he could also have sleep apnea! get it checked out like come on thats ridiculous.
I didn't know her husband did anything in showbiz. 😅
She is acting like a teenagers and looks like one in the late 40. But at least she is happy! :D
She was completely oblivious from 5:10 on. That whole thing was way over her head.
I caught that too, nothing she said had anything to do with her husband falling asleep on top of her.
Died when Jimmy said "That's not just him"
I don't see why people tell me to get diagnosed when I have or have had all the symptoms of narcolepsy since age 14. I am 22 now. And I honestly don't know why it's so commonly misdiagnosed....I mean if you put illnesses like depression aside and put age of onset aside and just look at the symptoms being experienced, it's not that hard imo.
She's is so fine
She a mother of three kids and she's 45 years old.
Kelly... go back to short hair. I did watch one of your shows and you said you would never let your hair get long again
.you look very stunning with shirt hair .
did she really just say eleventeen... please tell me it was a joke
The eleventen was a joke
I think I know why anyone married to Kelly Ripa would have narcolepsy... I wouldn't get any sleep with her either. How does she get sleep though?
"It doesn't happen very offen." Let's just ignore the t in often. I hate bad grammar
Actually that's a geography thing more than a grammar thing. People in some parts of the country tend to pronounce the T, and people in other areas will treat it as a silent letter. Apparently we are both from a region where people pronounce it. :)
Sounds like he might have sleep apnea.
Kelly is really Debbie Harry @ 1980
Jimmy Kimmel looks like a Simpson without his beard.
I think after 'amazing', 'we actually' would be a second runner up of overused English.

I had a friend that always falling asleep too. Turns out she was a heroin addict (I later found out). Him going to the bathroom and then falling asleep, kinda sounds like a heroin addict lol
I have Narcolepsy. It sounds a lot like Narcolepsy also.
it really does sound like it , i have narcolepsy 2
Maybe this heroine addict is self medicating and actually has both Narcolepsy and an addiction.
