  • This is my experience at DALMAC 2022. This is the first bike tour I've ever done so I didn't know exactly what to expect. Almost all my cycling is done solo so riding with a big group is also new to me. There are a handful of different route options and the one I rode was the 3-day East route starting in Gladwin, MI and ending in Mackinaw, MI.
This event was really well organized and it was a ton of fun! Breakfast and dinner were provided and I was impressed with the effort they went through to provide vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options.

"What's not to like about sewers?" Most lakefront homes are built to use septic systems. Septic systems leach nutrients to the nearby lake, fertilizing it and contributing to eutrophication. Eutrophication is a process which slowly (or not so slowly) converts a sandy clear-water lake into a muddy, murky one. The problem is, converting everyone to a sewer system costs money and means a millage to pay for it. Anytime the issue of new taxes comes up, there will be hold-outs.
I invite you to try the 4- or 5-day DALMAC next time.

Nice video, I am also a skateboarder and vegan who likes doing bike touring in northern MI. September to early October is a great season up north; the tourists are gone until the start of Fall Color season (usually a few weeks from now) and it's very pleasant and peaceful, with all kinds of wild apple trees along the road to sample, as well as Autumnberry fruits.

Wow, what are the odds - we have a lot in common! Good tip about the apples and autumnberry fruits. I've never had an autumnberry.

@@ashomsky they are also called Autumn Olive, which is a misnomer because they're not related to olives-the leaves look kind of like olive leaves. Considered an invasive species, but some are very delicious when ripe and they are very nutritious. They grow on roadsides everywhere here in SW Michigan.
