Hey man. I really want to applaud you on this video.
Also what made this one interesting is how you actually kept decent track of you tune.
Thank you!
Great job 👍 I was looking at the mirror 😁
Very very nice video man explained in layman's terms excellent.
Thanks!
Primaries on my truck always shows a higher number than secondaries-especially for base tuning
Thank you for this video, one of the best and simplest way to explain tuning a blowthrough carb system, can't go wrong with a carburetor!!!!! Thats a sickass mustang!!! Are you running a secondary power valve
No I was not running a secondary power valve, in hindsight I should have used a boost referenced main power valve. I currently have Holley Sniper fuel injection on the car and its running pretty good as seen in some of the more recent videos I have posted. Thanks for watching!
@@NuisanceRacing kinda odd that it was misfiring and not running lean, could it have something to do with ignition or timing, How do you like the holley sniper so far and does it selftune on boost? Thanks!!!!
@@frankdatank7751 if it'd to rich it could misfire also. Sniper is great. Couple small issues but that's to be expected, self tuning on it work well under normal driving and boost, then you can make small tweaks to fine tune the fuel table, with watching datalogs and making small adjustments to the fuel table.
Looks like fun. Nice to know the hangar 18 mods work. How much boost are you waste gated to? Are you using power valves or block plates?
Assembly Chimp 7 psi on Wastegate spring. Yes, I am using 1 power valve.
Ok that's awesome. What size turbo is on this thing? seems to come online rather quickly.
70mm by On3 performance , I was also surprised how fast it spools, also have 2.73 rear gears in the car so that helps spooling, but will hopefully be changing rear gears this winter or next spring.
You will find that you run out of turbine soon so don't lean on it tooooo hard or you might break a piston! With a shorter gear this thing will be scary as hell for anyone you convince to get in it with you haha
After those rich misses, might not have hurt to pull the plugs and take a look/clean or change them. Just to help start diagnostics more cleanly. Great job on vids/build
Do you get pump E85?
Great video. How big is the engine and rpm range? Ill be doing this on my LS 6.0 s10 very soon. Is part 2 up yet?
Thank you! it is a 5.0 with heads, cam and intake. The rev limiter is set at 6,000. Part 2 will most likely not be shot and uploaded until the spring of 2018.
Is it spring yet? Should be tuning mine this weekend with vent tubes!!!
I was able to get my 6.0 up and running on boost. I started with QFT Q750 carb. Did the hangar 18 mods/vent extensions. Started with a 71/78 jets that I used on the old 383. It was way fat and would not run at all under boost like yours. I ended up with a 66/75 and a 4.5 PV. So far under WOT its holding 11.0 AFR @6lbs. Good luck with tuning yours!!!!
That's for the video. I think a guy could get a metering block that permits the use of jets for the pvrc. Also do you just lock out your distributor?
yes possibly, and yes I locked out the timing for this application, have sense switched over to Holley EFI.
Man great vid! I am using the hanger18 modded carb also ..
84front 98 rear mine is setup like a friends carb who runs a 383
I need to get my pump and reg installed yet so I haven’t jumped on it yet
But my idle afr is rich 11.5
It isn’t terrible however my idle mixture screws are just about all the way in ..
So that makes me wonder
Thanks! Glad to hear its working for him!
Hey man I plan to put a Demon 850 CFM Blow Tru on a 408 Windsor, you think I'll be in the ballpark as it comes out of the box. Have you had any experience with those?
I have not, I think they do come out or the box pretty close though.
Do you have a had time to get off the line at the track, I can only get a 2.00 60' which is awful and what does your timing look like. I have a TT 302 same carb! Lots of fun
Have not been to the track yet, waiting to get a 8.8 rear end with some good gears, because the 2.73 gears in the Ford 7.5 I have now will sure have a worse 60' than 2.00. right now timing is at 29* at 7psi, will most likely bump the timing up in the spring when I start tuning on it again. What is your timing and boost at?
About the same 38 off boost then about 29 at 7psi. I wouldnt go higher, probably gonna turn it down a little. I have a shitty pvc 2'' intake tube lol thats gotta go, probably whats choking the motor. I have stock cam with 351 heads and only ran 12.80 @ 111mph (8.30 1-/8 mile) with 2.0 60'. Also just ordered the spectre carb hat, I had a homemade fiber glass one lol
I have 4.10 gears, I wanna go 3.27. Carb feels choked or rich off the line at the drags with traction. On the streets, its a badass little ride! If I could get he 60' lower, it'd do a pretty respectible ET
Have you tried a smaller needle and seat and make sure the float is adjusted right? It's probably a simple matter that you can't see when the engine is under load. This is where dyno tuning is useful. Good luck! You'll figure it out. It seems changing a ton of jets isn't working. There IS an issue, somewhere.
Yea most likely, thanks for the tip! Stay tuned for the next video for an update!
you always start rich then lean out the mixture
Why wouldn't you just tune it properly for N/A then run your "vent extensions" (pitot tubes) under boost. It'll keep you from being overly rich off boost and it'll richen on boost. If it's too lean, increase the size of your pitot tube. The larger the tube, the greater the pressure differential created.
Hey man, look up (72) on Dragboss Garage's channel.. .He just interviewed Mark Campbell (total god at tuning/modifying Holleys) . Well worth the watch imho!
Will do! Thanks for the heads up!
Hey brother how were you controlling your timing? Did you just have it locked out or did you have any advance? I’m trying to figure out how I need to control timing. Thanks
I did have it locked out . But sence then I have upgraded to holley sniper efi and that is controlling the timing.
@@NuisanceRacing awesome. Thanks brother!
@@NuisanceRacing awesome. Do you remember what you had it locked at? I’m setting mine up now and with 8psi im thinking 18degs? Or should I go less? I know AFR gauge tells the story lol
@jdrods1519 I don't remember but to be pretty safe I would pull 2 degrees per psi of boost, so you are running 8 psi you'd take 16 degrees off of your total timing, not sure what engine your running but most sbf 302s like around 38 degrees total, so it would be around 22 degrees total. 2 degrees per psi is pretty conservative depending on fuel type and intercooled or not ,ect .
@@NuisanceRacing awesome. Yea it’s a low compression 302 with 4150 and single plane. I was thinking about 2degs per Lb also. Thank brother!
What size fuel pump and fuel lines are you using
Walbro 255
Did you change the power valve ?
Is it boost referenced ?
I did not install a boost references power valve, it would probably help with tuning if you did.
@@NuisanceRacing i would look into it when you have time. It might be worth it. Your engine will thank you by running smoother.
Thanks for the tip! I did switch to Holley EFI in my most resent videos.
@@NuisanceRacing Ah. I will watch. I need to stay more up to date on things.
Also, I may be wrong, but I though with E85, you want like 7.5 a/f
just saw your comment, no the vehicle is on 93 octane pump gas.
@@NuisanceRacing ahhh, I found this video searching for e85 tuning so I just assumed. Cool man, car sounds good though!
Balance the jets better and use bigger pvcr's
its narrow band or wideband?
Wideband, AEM makes it but Summit sells it as their own.
What's the ignition set up did u use
Locked out mechanical distributor. Have sence switched to Sniper EFI.
@@NuisanceRacing what timing was u running locked out
@Matthew Koenig depends on the how much boost. Usually pull 1.5-2 degrees per psi of boost. I the engine liked around 38 degrees at wot NA ,so subtract 10 * from 38* If your running 5psi and that's 28* all depends on engine type and combo ,fuel, boost level.
@@NuisanceRacing well I have the timing locked out it's a 306 sbf blow through and I'm going to run 93
Blow thru carb or modified Holley??
Modified Holley carb, have sence went to EFI
@@NuisanceRacing You did a great Job of explaining what you did and why and more importantly what to look for when tuning ... GREAT JOB MAN !!
@@835YT Thanks for the kind words!
Why not dyne tune it?
No dynos close to my location.
Part 2?
I switched over to Holley EFI before part 2 was made, so part to will not be coming.
@@NuisanceRacing Any advice for a low boost 5psi setup using a 650 dp carb?
@@HammerHeadGarage I would read over the hanger 18 write up and possibly look Into a boost referenced power valves, I have not personally used them but have heard good things about them.
@@NuisanceRacing thanks. did you ever get this setup to work well?
@@HammerHeadGarage not as well as I would have liked. I'm sure with the power valve and some more tuning I would have gotten it their.
Hey what size carb ??
This was a 650 holley DP. I have sence went to holley efi.
@@NuisanceRacing braw this 750 demon carb whoopin my ashhh lol. I'm thinking about going efi . No matter what i do she go lean wot. Any I appreciate u htting me up. I have a stang 88. I watch this vid like a million times lol.
@@3rdgenfox I appreciate it! I felt the some way ,I just wanted to be able to drive the car with good AFRs so I eventually when Holley Sniper efi.
@@NuisanceRacing hey would you be welling to sell the 650?
@@3rdgenfox I could never get it to tune just right so I wouldn't want to sell it too you and have the same issues. Have you tried boost referenced power valve? It's somthing I would have tried when I have blowthrough on my car.
i cant find number 2
Number 2 was never made, sorry!
Nuisance Racing no 2nd video? did you ever find optimal jetting? i’m currently trying to tune a weber 32/36 on a blow through engine. my mechanic hates me.
No second video, Went to EFI as you can see in my most resent videos. Never really found good jetting sadly, i'm sure with enough time and enough spilled gas I may have though lol.
Hey Nuisance Racing do you still have that Holley? I could be a buyer lol
