I picked my girlfriend up from Victoria in the middle of winter, the wipers failed on the way up so had to drive home in almost freezing weather with the roof down. She was not amused.
Love this, after owning three 7's over 14 years I will share with you the secrets of travelling in a 7, think motorbike. MB jacket, gloves are a must, a balaclava for the coldest days with a beanie over that and full goggles, my 7 has no windscreen and any bare skin will freeze. A helmet doubles as a roof in the rain, mine doesn't have a roof either. These measures keep my 68 year old body nice and warm in mornings bordering 0 degrees. A mate and I travelled 2500 klms over 4 days on some of the best mountain roads Australia has to offer during the middle of summer with bushfires preventing us taking some roads, we had a blast. I envy Henry having you travelling with him and actually enjoying the experience, my wife came for a small, slow run once, only once, not her thing. Henry, marry this girl, what a gem you are. Keep the videos coming.
Thank you Alan!! Yes I think we learnt a lot from this trip! I really want a full racing suit for our next trip, Henry thinks it might be a bit excessive. So we might have to look in to the jacket situation. Sounds like you have done some epic trips yourself! I'll be sure to show Henry the last bit of this comment as well don't worry!
A beautiful car and a great video, thanks! It appears that you are made of the same stuff as my Mrs. In August I took her around Cornwall during the biggest drought in living memory... It rained almost every day. We went on a 1974 Norton and she complained not even once. We had a great time AND we are still together!!! Amazing.
Thank you Bertie for a lovely comment! Glad to hear you like the video. I can imagine she was delighted with the constant rain! Haha! The thing is you are on an adventure and it is always funny to look back on those moments. Glad to hear you two are still together that means there is hope for me and Henry!
I drive a factory built 2020 420s. I have just got back from a long weekend away . I drove from Hampshire to Devon ( Torquay). It was raining when I left so I had the hood on for half of the journey. I find that driving with the hood on and the heater on it gets toasty warm in the car and I love it!!
brilliant we have all been there.....I am on my 5th Caterham over 25 years nothing changes done many a trip from UK to South of France in it having a companion helps back in the day the Peages in France were a problem driving alone all good though
The Caterham is idea for you both, ..really enjoyed watching you both manage your trip to Germany. Watching this video makes me want a Caterham even more...I Love it !! More videos please 😉 you guys are really making me 😂 👍👍👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
Guys, I really like your videos, me and my wife did exactly that trip (Brugge, Nurburgring) couple of years back. I hope you will continue making more of these videos as Switzerland, South France, Italy and many more places worth to visit in that Caterham 😏💚
Thank you so much! Hope the weather was better for your trip! We actually did a trip to Ireland last year and I have all the videos from that trip as well so I might post those too! We actually work full time on a boat which is why planning trips is hard but we really want to switzerland as I've never been!
This is adorable and your dry humor and sarcasm is right up my alley. Like someone could make a romantic comedy of a couple doing a trip in a Caterham. Stumbled on your video as I'm thinking about getting one. My beautiful mountain roads and weather is only 10 mins away lol Nurburgring is a place I dream of visiting but probably never will. And you're very cute yourself! He's lucky in more ways than one.
I have a ‘07 Caterham 125 Roadsport, and a wife of 38 years who comes in it, preferably on a Sunday morning to get a nice brunch at a country pub. I would love to do a long trip somewhere in Europe, but know that there would be ‘objections’. Thanks so much for doing this as now we can both see what it would be like for us without having to actually do it. And with less shouting. Nice car BTW.
Hey Paul! Sounds great! Would highly recommend you take it on a longer trip. I think with a bit more planning it would be much easier to do. Myself and Henry work full time on a boat and our days off are very random so this trip was very last minute (I think we found out the week before) so not much preparation went in to it. Glad you are enjoying the videos though!
I've driven my X-flow Seven across the U.S. from Houston, Texas through middle America and up to San Francisco through all kinds of weather and roads including a spell at around 15,OOOFt over the Rockies, and also across the top of Spain West to East and back to the UK through France through all types of weather and apart from fairly frequent stops to fil lthe 8 gallon tank it was quite comfortable and neve missed a beat, so long trips can be done.
That's really impressive! I'm sure Henry would only love to take the Caterham on an adventure like that. I always feel quite comfortable in the car, however you can't deny the realities that a car like that brings! I would like to think that my videos are a true representation of what it's like touring in a Caterham. Can it be done? Sure! Will it be easy? Absolutely not haha! That's all part of the adventure though.
Treat your seven for a half hood from soft bits for sevens, when I owned mine they weren't available so had the same issues you experienced. The half hood would have made life so much easier.
The problem is Graham it's never just going to be the half hood is it? If you get the half hood something else will have to be gotten too to make the car that little bit better haha!
We just came back from a road trip with our Seven! 1500 miles in a week, mostly B-roads, mountains, canyons... Weather was better than during your trip since we are in California ;) That video is epic :-D
@@teenytinatravels Oh the video totally reminds our numerous Seven gigs! Also I thought my wife was a champion at adding unnecessary layers of clothes on her, she was stunned to hear how many layers you had on you! 😂
Road trips in a Cat are an 'experience' 😂 Suggest to your other 'alf he should get a half hood - they fit in seconds versus the full hood faff. I did a road trip to the Nords earlier this year - 2000 miles in 10 days. At times I questioned my sanity, but otherwise it was great fun!
@@teenytinatravels I did the alps in July it was amazing. See my video on my you tube for the trip. I have actually planned to do the Nurburgring with my lad after watching your recent trip
Should be required viewing before anyone gets one (and thinks they might be a fun car to have a getaway with your other half).... learned my lesson on that !
0:29 Some people rave and others driving a caterham, the two types of people you meet at 5 am😂 Out of jokes, i would like to drive a Seven, but here where i live, in Spain, there aren’t sevens. I could imagine that the maintenace of a seven 80hp is cheap, seeing the tires, the engine that mount from Suzuki , sounds nice If I where wealthy, I surely buy that car
Hey awesome trip ! Some questions for you, what's your phone support ? And what's the type of rear view mirror you have on the door of your Caterham ? Thanks :)

Any women who can put up with a seven must be in line to be a Saint, I brought mine to keep them away.
Laughed so much at this comment 🤣 too funny Kenneth!
My Mrs loves our 7.

you are telling me?
Do y'all not have the heated seats? It makes such trips ever so more comfortable. Also, put the top up.
No according to Henry we can't get heated seats but that would be a dream!
Is this an S3 or SV chassis? And lowered floors?

The phone set up is a 3d printed mount (from eBay) that screws to the dash with a Quad Lock iPhone mount attached to it. Works really well!
Mirrors are Motamec Racing Wing Mirrors attached to aluminium Eccles mounts.
