I aint gonna lie.. The begining of the video after watching it multiple times really cracks me up. It becomes more funny the more times you watch it. Hi im john lucas, Im going to show you how I use the hunter tool.. This is a #4 hunter tool. Legit cracks me UP LOL
Turns out (no pun intended) I've been presenting the tool incorrectly. I was bringing it straight, and getting gouges and catches. It can be a very aggressive tool for hogging. Thanx for posting this. Saved me a lot of tool anxiety.
It looks like he is using the Osprey tool. It is a great tool and gives a smooth finish to the work in the end, much better than a negative rake scraper in my amateur opinion.
Thank you watching many of your instructional and educational videos. As a new turner (3 years) I do find carbide are easier to learn. If you don’t have enough funds to buy the number 4 and/or the Hunter Viceroy what would you start with? I can see the advantage over the straight carbon cutters I have. Again thanks
I enjoyed your review of these tools, which I am planning to add to my supply. Can you comment on why one might want a square shank? It seems to me that it would be hard (impossible?) to rotate the cutting edge with a square shank. Your thoughts appreciated.
I was doing EVERYTHING wrong 🥴. I went searching for instruction and here you were. Now I know how to use my nice new tools. Thank you.
Best carbide use video I’ve seen. And glad to hear you call it correctly (surface feet )

John...do the Hunter finisher and a negative rake scraper produce similar finishes inside bowls?
