- The president of Iran has died in a helicopter accident. According to officials, President Ebrahim Raisi was traveling with Iran’s Foreign Minister and seven others. The chopper went down during heavy fog in a remote, mountainous area of north west Iran. All nine of the men on board were killed. Raisi was elected Iran’s president in 2021. Five days of national mourning have been declared in Iran. President Ebrahim Raisi was 63 years old.

It wasn’t a crash, it was a “hard landing” which rapidly disassembled the helicopter. Very common.

No signs of any fire, nor explosion, tail rotor still in place, main rotor gone, and they hit upside down.
Looks like the rotor hit the terrain, shredded and sent the rest in the ground. I wouldn't be surprised if some even survived the initial impact.

I took a helicopter ride for 1/2 hour when I was young. I begged my father to pay for it. Looking back now, I would never do it again. Those things were not meant to fly!
