While different schools of thought within Islam may have slightly varying criteria, PhD in 7 subjects, qualifications for a Mujtahid include:
1. Mastery of Arabic: Since the primary sources of Islamic law are in Arabic, a Mujtahid must have a deep understanding of the language to interpret the Quran, Hadith, and other classical texts accurately.
Knowledge of Islamic Sciences: A Mujtahid should have a comprehensive understanding of various Islamic disciplines such as Quranic exegesis (Tafsir), Hadith studies, Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh), legal theory (Usul al-Fiqh), theology (Aqeedah), and Islamic history.
Memorization of the Quran and Hadith: A Mujtahid is expected to have memorized a significant portion of the Quran and be well-versed in the Hadith literature to derive legal rulings from these sources.
