_Thank you so much for this Genuine Documentary - Information and everything - This video can help future generations to know that the success of consoles in the present is derived from the great work of people and companies in the past - Thank you and a big hug to everyone_
Really Awesome information man thank most Educational video
How to install the OS for the this Dev Kit? Need Help
what for? the TOOL os or the PS2 BIOS?
Tool os ,(the bios is fine)
you have to take the hard drives out and image them, if you look on assemblergames forum, you can download an image and image it on your HDDs exactly
Patrosiname uno plis
wait, so why do we need bloody roar 4 again?
disc contains the renderware sdk in the dummy files used to fill the press dvds
hello, thank you for your very helpful content, is it possible if i could get a complete list of all the directory settings in your source tree. i see most of them but you had more that i was not able to see. thanks so much and have a happy holidays.
THIS IS AMAZING
Thanks a lot for the video, really helps!
Thank you very much for information and files!
The guide is gone unfortunately :(
Can anybody post or send me the guide?
I wonder if back in the days they did compiling on the dev kit (the super fat ps2 thing) or on seperate PCs (cross compiling)? Also I wonder which compiler the first party devs used? I mean to my knowledge there were three available: gcc, prodg and codewarrior. So for example which compiler was used by Sony Santa Monica studio in God of War II?
only compiled on pc, the only things that were done on the tool is logging in and setting the IP.
Thanks for making these videos; they're quite interesting and of course leagues better than all those "look what I found at the local flea market - let's see if it plays copied games?!"-videos you tend to find when looking for info on these.
In any case, you advocate making use of the ASSEMBlergames forums for trades, information sharing etc. I actually went to join there a couple of werks ago, however it seems that new accounts require administrator verification before being let in. I've yet to receive such, neither has inquiring about this via the site's contact form yielded any kind of response.
Digging further into it, it would seem that the last member joined nearly a year ago, and before that there were on average a couple of new users per month.
I'm therefore wondering whether this is intentional (closing the community off) or not. As a presumably active member perhaps you could bring this issue to attention so that it can be resolved if it is indeed accidental (and if it is not, it would be nice to put up an info box saying new members are not accepted at this time)?
Thanks for your time,
Cheers
I do recall there being a major fight in the community last year as one of the administrators had an emotional breakdown involving the negative attitude of some programmers. You can still purchase these though, I’ll do some digging to help you out find one. I’m glad you like the fact that I share what I’ve studied about these machines. I want to make more technical videos soon.
@@greyskiesrainfallandpeace3006 Hm, I see.
Oh wow, thanks, that'd be amazing if you could do! (The only ones I've managed to find so far were sold as scraps for pickup in Japan).
And indeed, looking forward to watching those!
@@greyskiesrainfallandpeace3006 I hate to be a bother, but as you offered I was wondering if you could perchance help me get in touch with the seller here: assemblergames.com/threads/fs-sony-t10000-with-cd-dvd-emu-koei-egword-printer-for-ps1-bleach-hanatareshi-yabou-design-docs.70933/

Thanks in advance and I hope you are well.
Where is the best place to buy one of these now in 2023?
very cool vid! PS2 was (is!) my one and only console. Nowadays I make apps in Unity (HoloLens2 etc), and seeing the build pipeline here was very cool for me to see. But to make PS2 games, this Tool monster is your only option right? There is no virtual version of that?
no virtual version of the tool.
update: you can debug with OPL
I'm not a programmer but as far as i know now exist some easy stuff to make PS2 homebrews, graphics and games, the tools necessary are "Lua script" "Enceladus" and "Tyra Engine"
I wanted to do the same thing with RW but unfortunately I don’t have a PS2 TOOL kit. I’m assuming this is a no but is there other ways? Btw I love your videos
Thank you for the pleasantries. And yeah, you can use a TEST PlayStation 2. Referred to as a Debug Station in RW. Apparently you use a USB - serial cable although I'd advise not using it as the guides and materials on how to use it are scarce and under-developed. Good luck in obtaining one.
Joshua Professional Gaming what can you do with the PS2 SDK disc? Something completely different but I can’t find online what it’s use and features are just wondering if it it’s anyway useful. Besides that thanks for the response I hope you do more videos like this they’re entertaining
@@crazylithium5926 Compilers and Documentation are the main purpose of the SDK. Compilers are what makes your code work on the PlayStation 2. Without the SDK, it is impossible to properly use the TOOL. doesn't really offer anything more. Some precompiled ELF files that just return a machine exception or a crash when you run it. By SDK disk, I expect you're talking about the ISO I linked in the description. I don't advise using other disks.
Joshua Professional Gaming actually I didn’t realise you’ve linked it in the description but yeah that’s the same one I was talking about with the SDK. People call it SDK disc so that’s why I said SDK disc but this is very interesting. You should do more videos like this they’re very enjoyable and entertaining it shows insight of what devs would’ve had to do with the PS2 TOOL kit
I would like to have the ps2 tool in my room because it's so cool looking
you could try asking around obscuregamers forum for a casing or broken unit for display. i have a stack of 10 ps2s on my cabinet and it looks really cool
Hello, quick question. If I were to buy one that is NTSC-J is there anyway to change the language to English ( assuming it's in Japanese )
you don't, you just change the region on the TOOL through a setting when executing an ELF/disc, you also can use the BIOS in the SDK and flash it for english
@@greyskiesrainfallandpeace3006 Oh wow well that makes things a tad bit more accessible, thank you so much! Any chance you could throw up a video of that process( Unless it was in this vid, I haven't rewatched it in almost a year haha)?
He is right about the playstation2 developer tool.. aka DtL T1000... system on a board pc married to a playstation2 console.. They're very delicate pieces of hardware.. mine came from a friend at a Japanese developer who saved it and it's counterpart debugger test console and it was saved from the trash for somebody who would give the revision 5 kit with the big blu books that barely fit on a bookshelf..
19:00 ahahahahah that is the funniest thing ever !!
They left their renderware setup intact on the disc as the dummy files!! And that's the way of getting the SDK . that's so ridiculous haha I love it
yep. pretty funny, i even had a laugh at that. Just makes you wonder if some other company has done it too.
@@greyskiesrainfallandpeace3006 Shrek SuperSlam has a full version of Tony Hawk's Underground 2 for PSP
A Tiger Woods game for PS1 had a copy of a South Park episode (the pilot?)
It's padding mostly. You have a 4Gb DVD and your game is 3.5Gb and you need to fill it up fully so you put random shit on the disc and hope nobody finds it.
That's probably how the Renderware SDK ended up there
I understand that they use dummy files and know why, it’s the recording process of disks for the PlayStation 2. The proper recorder used in the sdk complains if the disk isn’t completely full. The recorder also has the option to create dummy files I’m pretty sure.
By chance would you be able to put your set up guide you made on AG on google doc or something? Seems AG is down again. Thanks!
i'll update the link in about 10 minutes.
@@greyskiesrainfallandpeace3006 Ah great thank you, much appreciated!
I was always intrigued how they developed games for consoles because the UI was opaque, Thanks
do you know how to view irx files? I am trying to figure out if there is a way of getting Burnout 3 online again through bypassing the connecting to the EA servers phase. I don't really know if this is possible, but I would want your response as you have much higher knowledge of ps2 files.
alz irx files are the PS2 specific files. They cannot be opened. When a game is done being developed they ship it of to Sony and Sony input the irx files which they had a company to create that file type before the PS2 IRX file type never existed
IRX files are most likely a result of a propitiatory engines packaging. Such as a PKG or APK. They probably aren't related to Sony although I do recall it being possible to extract their contents with some sort of decompiler. If you have a look on ASSEMBLERGames you may find your answers. I remember a long time ago messing with the IRX format and even getting successful extractions and repackaging but it is too long ago to remember the specifics.
Joshua Professional Gaming I’ve mixed up the IRX files with something else. Yeah you’re right. So you’re telling me that IRX files can be opened up?
As I say, my memory isn’t great when it comes to specific formats, although I will give it a look in my free time and report back to you my findings. I think I remember seeing “IRX” somewhere in the options in an EE linker, so as I say. I’ll take a good weekend to refresh my memory and let you know my findings. My recommendation is to ask the IRX question on assemblergames forum because the community is fairly approachable.
alz in terms of bypassing EA servers. There are projects already existing that don’t require TOOLs to bypass company servers. My advice is to check for already existing bypass methods. There is a bypass method that does work although I am unsure if it works for burnout 3. If you know how to code I have one main things you can try.
Try to find out of IRX files are compiled, as Lithium said. If they’re compiled you may be able to decompile them and open them normally in the metroworks CodeWarrior.
IRX files are script files? If they are then you may be able to open them with CodeWarrior
This than look net as hell must have never New it Existed
Hello, im having an issue getting code warrior to work on my windows 10. i have installed it now twice and everytime i try to run it, it says the code warrior preference file is read only or in use please try again in a moment. i can get it to work on an win xp vm but i was wondering if you know how to fix this for windows 10. thanks.
Aidan rosenberg go to your codewarrior installation folder in program files and right click on it, preferences and then unselect the read only box. this should fix it. lmk if it doesn't and i'll see if i can break mine to do that and then tell you how to fix it.
@@greyskiesrainfallandpeace3006 thanks i think iod did the trick, now i have to battle the computer to apply this. very good content. i used your videos to setup my tool when i got it. have you ever thought about doing a video of OPL on a tool ps2? its a great alternative for people who have busted dvd drive lasers.
What game engines is it compatible with? Can it be run on Unity?
potentially, if you could setup the sony SDK compilers to compile your source code from unity into ELF. I'd reccomend using Renderware 3 Studio instead of unity.. it's a game design studio similar to Unity that has PS2 deployment built in.
Hey man, been setting one of these up myself and your tutorial has been pretty useful. However I've run into a bit of an issue- whenever I use the CWComUtil program to try and run an ELF file from my PC, I get a timed out error. Could there be an error in my network settings or the way I have my cables set up? What exactly are you using to connect the TOOL to the PC?
Check a few things.
One, the ethernet connection on your TOOL is good.
Two, the IP adress settings in ComUtil are matching your TOOL.
Three, there is probably another computer on your network that has the same IP adress as your TOOL and that computer is taken the IP already. Try using a different IP on your TOOL.
ComUtil is what connects the PC to the TOOL. As i say, just check comutils settings for TOOL IP.
@@greyskiesrainfallandpeace3006 Are you simply just running an ethernet crossover cable from the PC to the TOOL? That's all I have, I'd just like to make sure there isn't anything more to it than that. I won't have a chance to dig into this until next week, but thanks for the quick response!
@@Thatawesomecat11 no, if you run a crossover cable you need to set your tool gateway ip to your PC ip. Then you set your PCs gateway to your TOOLs IP. And no, I'm running my TOOL on a standard network. Good luck with getting it working.
can you use pcsx2 to test everthing? like launch the elfs?
you can launch ELFs but no debugging. the purpose of the tool is to quickly test ELF files and debug them live. you also cant use the TOOLs PS2 BIOS on PCSX2
hi, stupid question, i have 8 errors in the render ware sdk and i would like to fix them. if i delete the lines where the errors are it turns 8 errors into 800 errors. the error basically says that the line is unterminated. do you know how to fix this?
i don't understand, are you talking about compile errors in codewarrior?
@@greyskiesrainfallandpeace3006 you said that the render ware sdk is broken on the bloody roar disc and it needs to be fixed, well every time I delete the broken lines of code more errors appear. it starts with 8, when i delete the 600 more errors appear.
in the the code warrior
sorry for the late reply i havent checked in awhile
@@aidanrosenberg3513 renderware sdk is fine, parts of the ps2 sdk compilers aren't.
Yo solo uso ps2dev soy pobre
So, can i found the source code of a game like gta san, incredibles, ratatouille? Can i make mods for them?
Sckoofer B you do that on the PC. You can see memory addresses on this but source code is decompiled, viewed and changed on the PC. With the PlayStation 2 TOOL SDK you should be able to, but it does take some knowledge and skill to do it.
Joshua Professional Gaming Thank you for reply.
Please, make more videos about the tool.

Sckoofer B will do
Rotate the playstation logo on the machine so its facing right side up.
you can't rotate the playstation logo on the TOOL
@@greyskiesrainfallandpeace3006 Wow, I guess it makes sense because it's purely for commercial purposes, but considering what those machines cost one would think they could have added a rotating logo.

how to handle input?

Does the tool play PlayStation 1 game
no it doesn't.
not whithout modification i did see a thread on obscure games about it
When are you going to install ProDG and show more what Renderware can do?
SpaceQuakes ProDG doesn’t have much use other than running pre-compiled dev ELF files and live machine code monitoring. To use RenderWare you need to use Code Warriors IDE, it allows you to code into a RenderWare 3 skeleton stationary.
SpaceQuakes I’ll make a video showing all the example ELF demos if you’d like
@@greyskiesrainfallandpeace3006 Sweet man thank you.
Also yeah you can go ahead and do those but try to include what is on the PS2 SDK. There is a few ELF files and they don't work on emulators.
oh to note, the ELF files on the SDK don't work because they use a different kernal and there are no source files to recompile so I don't think I can show them.
