- My dog Summit and I started from journey's end heading south. We got more snow than anticipated but the unknown is always the most interesting part of the journey. Join us for 3 days and 2 nights out on Vermont's long trail in the winter.
Everyone is asking what type of dog, He is a mutt with my guess of Belgian Malinois/Lab.
And no we don't carry weapons with us as there is nothing to fear out there but yourself.
I think the most beautiful thing about this video is the chap's relationship with his dog. It's wonderful to see!!
I almost fell off the couch when you signed in piss! I just thought, "What an awesome guy! He does not care about conventions and will walk his own trail from time to time." Great video, and I love your co-star, Summit. Reminded me of A hike I made in 1979 to the top of South Sister (10,000+ ft.) with my dog, Basquo, a Great Pyrenees. He beat me to the top of the mountain, and when I made it to the top, Basquo was panhandling from this other climber.
Hiking with a true friend..... subbed, because you let your dog in your sleeping bag... :)
Another great film, thank you....
I really miss your vids. Old ones are worth watching again.
I like how your dog is your hiking companion and also like the John Muir quote. Thanks for the nice video.
I really liked that you let your dog in the sleeping bag with you.No greater love.
I like this guy, he's living the good life!
Good video. I did giggle when you referred to that little run-off water path as a river.
Nicely put together, a pleasure to watch, thanks.
I could tell in the first minute I am going to like this guys humor! Subscribed

Freeze dried food wouldn't weigh as much for you up to carry

Very nice video and music. Touching the soul.Hello from Greece.
What an extraordinary dog ! :) So smart
Great vid. Deep snow, wow. Ccccold! Some good safety / risk lessons, with humility on ur part. And wise words throughout. Thanks for sharing. Ignore the negative comments by armchair hypocrites.
The wine in a box scene: brilliant!
This vid is perfect, man.
Nice video.
It doesn't get much better than this...

Dog carries his own baggage. Bravo
never thought I'd be so camp deprived I'd be watching a guy camping on TV. can't wait for the next go. I've camped in the snow and it was fun, also done some solo camping when I needed to make big decisions, and reset mind and body... get out to Cali and hit the Sierras, see ya on the trail.
Photography and Music is awesome plus your narration and quote took it to a next level. i have never seen Snow in real it was great experience watching it in ur video .....

Thanks sometimes you have to turn around to take another step forward. I named my dog Summit and he has lived up to his name.
Enjoyed this immensely -- very thoughtful and contemplative, thanks

Thank you for this video. It's the most informative winter camping video I've seen yet. And Summit is adorable!

Great video. Really enjoyed it.
Very nice! I had just finished an excerpt from Walden this afternoon-where Thoreau explains the necessity to simplify our lives. Now this evening, I see this reflected through your hike and the timeless appeal of both. Awesome!
Synchronicity is fun, sounds like it is time for you to go on a hike. Thanks for the comment.
Love you and you're dog going doing this.Going upto 6000 ft camping in snow for a week in forest.lots of interesting stuff to remember.cheers from UK

glad you and your dog got out okay good job.
I laughed so hard when I saw your Kit in your lap, I have the same one.. enjoyed this vid a bunch.
Yes, it is a vermont made product. Gotta support them. :)
Great vid my friend! Any adventure where you live to try a new adventure in the future is a successful trip! We all have a short term goal when we venture out into the wild such as getting from point A to point B but the long-term goal is making it out alive. Good call on turning back when you no longer wished to continue forward.
Great dog!
Fantastic on so many levels...if I may make a suggestion, ok thanks I will lol, big dog guys here and grab a thermo coat for him..Better to have and not need that to need and not have... He is a great dog also..TY
Thank you for the video, I loved the way you think about Life..
This is awesome. Great video! :)
Nice job. I'm impressed with you carrying in a real thermos, and a guitar! I used to hike with someone who carried in a full-size wok and a banjo. It's all about your priorities. Peace man.
Wow man that was one Hell of a hike. Great job filming it. Im definitely subscribing! Thanks for sharing.
thanks for watching
Great video and good song.
Four miles or forty. If you enjoyed the trip and arrived home well, it was a success.
Really enjoyed this, thank you for sharing!
Nice story. Winter camping is the best. The muffled sound of the forest covered in snow. The tracks of wildlife all around. One tip I've learned winter backpacking in Oregon-if it is early in the season, you can clear off the snow to bare ground and really increase your warmth.
Great effort. Good camera work. Keep up the good work. Cheers.
Brother this is awesome. I will be hiking the Long Trail this year but to do it in the winter? That’s a whole different manifestation of strength and tuning into the land. Respect.
A well made, interesting video. I appreciate the double-takes you have to do to film yourself. Thank you.
good run love it --you did a lot better then most
I was really surprised that you didn't have some kind of coat for your dog. Was very happy to see that your dog got to share your sleeping bag.
Very cool man, had me laughing at the very beginning. And you said it perfectly at the end, in adventures like this it's never about a destination
Quentin McHugh Life is an adventure and its allways about the journey never the destination.
Some very cool quotes. Thanks for posting. I'm looking into winter Hammock Camping soon. Interested in bringing my Minature American Husky (Spitz). She loves the snow. Trying to find ideas to keep her comfortable during the night. Thanks for posting some good tips.
Really good video!I love the quotes from John Muir.I would love to see a Robert Frost poem or something from him-he was a Vermont native and this reminds me of him.Keep up the great work!
awesome video though, thanks for sharing!
wow!!!! nice video loved it so much.
you make me go out there and do what you did.
"I mean, cheese never killed anybody....except Elvis." HAHAHAHA!!! XD
Awesome really, got a lot from your video, thanks.
Great video bud. Loved hearing a Mason cover from the snow covered woods.
A thumbs up for you sir.
Awesome ! I had that same tent and used it for about three years. Loved it. Thanks for sharing man ! Peace
Yes I just bought my second REI Quarterdome, I also picked up a half dome which is the same design but a 2 person.
