You forgot about the really weird ability that Botos have. They can turn into humans. Don't know how they evolved that.
and they have a taste for married women
Oh no, not the "oi, casada".
Shut up nerd enjoy the video
Yes, they make a handful amount of babies with innocent women here
kkkkkk they will never understand that
It's very funny that as an amazonian I recognize all of these fishe's names. So many of them end up either as specimens in the local scientific museum or as a potential meals in the local fish market. Living in the amazonian delta means these fish are an important part of our diet and culture :)
It's just weird to call pirarucu a "arapaima"
@@pedrohenrique-kl2xr também nao entendi ele chamar o infame pirarucu de arapaima
@@pedrohenrique-kl2xrfor some reason here in America we are taught they are arapaima from shows and pop culture, probably off of some old study which they called them that for some random reason that we keep referencing for info on the fish
Where you live? In Delta Amacuro?
@@pitt2445 there is a city called Manaus which, incredible as it may seem, has 2 million people
Arapaima are my favorite fish, they’re just so… peak. I can’t explain why I love them so much, but they’re just one of the first kinds I think of fish as a whole.
pirarucu is the most delicious fish i've ever eaten, by far.
i thank god everyday i was born Brazilian and had it regularly when i was a kid, i miss it.
Are pacu tasty? I've always been wondering how they taste like
@@idisseddemonslayermugentra2962 Considering he called it "The most delicious fish ive ever tasted" I'm going to go out on a limb here to answer your question and say that yes, they are tasty
@@NoNameEst1992 I'm talking about pacu not arapaimas
Same here, even as a tiny kid I've loved fish, especially arapaima, they're just so cool looking. My adoptive parents always criticized it because fish "aren't ladylike enough" but I didn't care, I still have a little collection of books about arapaimas, coelacanths, frilled sharks, etc
I hope you do a video based on the Congo as well, it's super super interesting. Amazing video as always!
Exactly the thought I wanted to post! The speciation mechanisms in that river, by themselves, are fascinating
The Congo.is as deep as the ocean. Many unknown species hiding
The Amazon gets the most love but I'd love to see a video where he explores more rainforests like the ones in the congo, southeast asia and in Papua New Guinea
ooh this is a good idea! i would love to learn more about the Congo
if i may add another river suggestion. the mekong :D
I hope that Brazil will finally make it a strictly protected area. The whole environment of the Amazon is really important.
Would be easier with the help of Europe and USA, but they only want our resourcers
Where are you from?
How are the forests of your country?
What have you done to restore them?
Mind your business first
@@r.guerreiro140 i think most of the worlds rainforests with possibly millions of species in it is slightly more important then your average forest
@@memeboi3448 sorry but it's a fallacy
There are indeed an increased biodiversity on tropical rainforests but it have been greatly exaggerated by the Ecologist propaganda in a way to keep you all concerned and frightened so to keep their cash flow and their political power
Don't thrust any fear dealer or you'll end up being exploited and manipulated
@@r.guerreiro140 still i doubt your average forest has more plant life per square foot then the amazon
There's still so much to be discovered in the South American rainforest, let's hope we can preserve it.
You got a mouse in your pocket?
@@shaneclark5022 I'm sorry, are you advocating for the _destruction_ of the Amazon?
@@JohnGardnerAlhadis there are three levels here
The mith of "destruction" of Amazon, something we just do not have power neither will to do
The second level is preservation, just like the Louvre preserves the Monalisa painting, and that's what those rich outsiders try to force us to do so our people there will be kept on a miserable life forever
And the third is conservation, what allows us to explore the forest in a sustainable way
That's our right as Brazilians to choose the third option and screw yourself up whatever you European fat cats think about
@@garyb6219 in some ways, its not their call at all. the amazon is the lungs of the planet and clearcutting it all would be and ecological disaster!
@@garyb6219 fuck that we all live here on earth
The "arapaima" is called "pirarucu" here. It's an indigenous name. It's one of the best barbecue fish you can have. Grill it folded inside banana tree leaves over live embers.
I remember those fish from a hotel I stayed in. There was a large lake where a bunch of fish lived in, including a few pirarucu. The hotel staff would give us bags of fish food to feed them, and the pirarucu would end up eating most of it, since it has such a huge mouth.
Do you cook the whole fish at once or in pieces? Lots of meat... for sure! I like fish with garlic butter and honey cooked on a grill over live embers.✌️ from California USA ✌️
Do you seasoned it? We at malaysia have invasive arapaima problem, arent bad as pleaco. Maybe this may help
@@asbiwhy7557 which part of Malaysia having this invasive species, lake or river ?
Since you guys are always debating about the names, I will just stick to Paiche.
I’m so glad to see someone talking about the Amazon river as a whole. A ton of tropical fish found in stores for the aquarium trade come from the river and it’s habitats and it really gives you an idea of what these fish endure in the wild and why they are the way they are. There are tons of videos of these fish being filmed in the wild mostly by a guy called @biotopia if you’re interested in it.
A couple months ago I visited the Toledo Zoo and they had an Arapaima in the aquarium. I’d never seen a fish that big before. I probably spent a solid 10 minutes just staring at that magnificent beast.
I know it's just INSANE! I was in awe of one in I believe Ridley's Aquarium?
Great video. In the last sentence, you could say "nowhere else in the UNIVERSE you can find a place as rich in life as the Amazon", at least as far as we know. If life is rare, the Amazon may be the most precious place in the whole universe.
Very true, a really convincing stance on the importance of habitat preservation.
Great point!
Holy shit you're right
Back in the late 90's we were lucky enough to visit the Amazon and boat up it to a hotel that sits on an island. During a river outing multiple pink porpoises were jumping around the boat.
I attempted to take photos.. but those old wind up cameras were not amazing, plus as a kid my photography skills were hardly great. There is many pictures of empty river in my album as the dolphins had gone by the time pressed the shutter!
That's adorable! I've personally seen some myself. Here we call them "botos" with the pink ones being especially beloved. They are often associated with love, and there are legends about pink botos turning into handsome men, seducing married women and then fleeing back to the waters, leaving her alone with their child. It's an odd way of talking about extra-marital relationships but it's endearing in a way
Arapaima are the largest true freshwater fish on earth, as while Sturgeon (White, Beluga, and Kaluga) are larger, they spend at least part of their lives in Saltwater
Well, that title goes to either Mekong Giant Catfish and Southeast Asia Giant Stingrays
i think he is the biggest scaly fish
Beluga isn't even a fish

Ocelots! Jaguars, River otters, anaconda's, caimans, sloths, piranahs, capayburas, harpy eagals. i would love to see the amazon. The only fish diversity that compares is called the oceans.
I once heard there are more fish species in the Amazon than in the Atlantic Ocean. The Amazon basin doesn't rival an entire ocean, it surpasses.

Going to the amazon was the greatest experience I have had so far. Being in a boat, looking around you and seeing water all through the horizon, while in a freaking river, was just mindblowing. Just an incredible place
God: "I've dried the river and left you to die in this pool of stagnant water"
Arapaima: "You have no power over me"
God created humans to destroy the Amazon. God is deadly
I always make sure to throw car batteries into the River so that the eels can have a recharge.
We thank you for your kindness to this environment sir
As someone from Jacksonville FL when you showed a picture of the Football team for Jaguars I died laughing.
great topic, love the video. I always look forward to these kinds of videos. A topic suggestion i had: maybe you can do one on all the different cetaceans? Or cephalopods could be cool too.
There larger species of River Dolphin (Inia geoffrensis) in the Amazon, has three recognized subspecies:
The Pink Amazon River Dolphin: Found in the main River, the Amazon.
The Bolivian River Dolphin, found in the southern tributaries.
And the Araguaian River Dolphin, in the southeast.
The Tucuxi can be found in the Amazon River Basin, but is more common in the Orinoco River Basin, in eastern Colombia and Venezuela.
I remember when I was a kid, every time I'd check on NatGeo and see it's an episode about the Amazon River again they'd always find another way to talk about the Arapaima for the 500th time (though to be fair I think it was endangered at the time so I can't blame em). But I didn't know the river was THIS heavily dynamic of a changing environment; shows that TBM truly is more than just an edutainment channel with haha hehe pictures
Fun fact about the boto: people have recently discovered a subspecies that is blind, meaning it only inhabits the murkiest of depths. Also, thank you for the video. I'm Brazilian and I didn't even know about the tucuxi.
I have learned so much from your channel and only just discovered we are around the same age in your 100k q&a stream! Your depth of knowledge and passion for zoology is so cool to see and also inspiring:) keep it up
the amazon river is the one place i need to visit before i die, i love fish, fishing, and aquarium keeping and the biodiversity of the river is fascinating to me
As a child I played a Game called 'Endless ocean 2'. It was a game about the different tipes of ocean. You could swim through an river in the Cortica. It wasn't the prettiest Wii game, but it showed me an appreciation for water life and more.
So I really enjoyed this video and gave me some nostalgic for the time when my 5 year old self played through the game
this video is so cool. you're good at this stuff. please never stop making videos like this
I love your channel, perfect amount of memes and actual information. And your mixing of audio is great, when music plays in left ear and your voice is heard in both. It makes teriffic listening experience.
I always know I’m in for a treat when you upload. Thank you for all that you do!
I love the humor style of these videos
I am DEF showing this to my brother. He loves your channel, but this is something special.
Great video as always!! I always get happy when I see a notification from your channel. Keep up the great work! I think you would make such a passionate biologist
I love this channel, it has a good sense of humor at times and I love the editing and stuff especially the newspaper surrounding images it's so cool
I’ve always loved Amazon habits, keeping aquaecapes and native fish such as tetras and chiclids (not harvested from the wild, a sad and dark side to the fish trade.) my favorite tank every was a lightweight black water setup that was ~ 15 gallons and filled with cherry shrimp, ember tetras, and Von rio flame tetras. I also had a really pretty moss driftwood and rock tank with some Buenos Aires tetras and a pair of dwarf chiclids from that N. Argentina region. Really cool to create and preserve mini biospheres like that.
The fish that are collected in the Amazon are usually stranded individuals from the oxbow lakes that would've died otherwise.
thank you so much for this video! I'm from Brazil and the actual heart of the amazon is not the jungle, is the river! so much life lives inside
So proud of all the creators like you who put the work in to make media that brings me joy and isn’t created by megacorps. Thanks to the creators.
I would love to see a video about animals in the himalayas!
Whoa. This is the best video i've seen in the last few weeks. Appreciate the good content!
just to know, airapamas, giant otters and electric eels are called pirarucu, ariranha (ah-ree-rah-nyah) and purake, respectively, in brazilian amazon :))
TBM I have no idea if you will read this but your videos make my day better keep up the good videos
I'm an Amazônian and i loved it
I really liked the music.
It was soothing and kinda whimsical. Like you're taking a journey.
Love the video! I’d be certainly like to see more videos on river life
Thanks for the video, love your channel 🐥
This channel makes me happy while watching it. Thank you
I really hope we can preserve it
Sadly people dont care enough to. If god wanted the Amazon safe then he would not create humanity or give humanity freewill to destroy the environment.
This Thanksgiving I am grateful for the Budget Museums sparse amount of videos, but still insanely consistent in the realms of quality
my city is on the bank of the amazon river, I find fascinating to learn interpretations of different languages on our environment, great video, love it
Thanks for the video!

Amazing video! Love your nature videos
You should do more videos on creatures that live in water! They are my favorite 😁 if I can make a suggestion maybe underwater bugs?
Really cool video! Ariranha are the best others, incredible animals. Would be really cool if u cover other southamerica biomed, like Pantanal and Caatinga/Cerrado
as a brazilian a fun fact is that tho cute giant ottera(ariranhas) are VERY DANGEROUS and are known to bite and attack humans.
Gotta say, your jokes along with good content have earned you a sub.
Fascinating! Great video
always a good day when you upload
Excellent video! For what it’s worth, though, the candíru DOES in fact do that, or rather, it has. It’s not something for the general populace to fear, and it’ll only happen if you are submerged below the waist for a significant amount of time AND you pee, as the candíru follows trails of urea in the water. It’s only been recorded as happening one time, and it seems unlikely that it would ever happen again, but. It has happened.
the references format was pretty neat, thanks
I’m surprised you didn’t talk about Mata Mata Turtles, they’re one of the most unique looking animals I’ve ever seen
Amazing content!!! I loved it

You're right about the otters being surprising! I remember watching Heaven's Design Team with a friend a couple years ago, and when Neptune designed the giant river otter, we said, "There's no way THAT'S a real animal!" But then, at the end of the episode, when there hadn't been any explanation of how giant otters couldn't be real, we went, "Wait. IS it real?!" And then we just sat there in disbelief for a few minutes after Googling it. 😂
I’m Brazilian and honestly otters for me are those in Amazonia, not the American ones, but don’t be fooled by their cute appearance, *they’re demons*
A collaboration between budget museum and samonella would be the peak of education
i love ur videos they remind me of vids my sscience teacher would show us when she was busy with grading

i watch this and i feel like I'm being taken on an amazon river gondola tour
In Some parts of Peru there are folk tales telling that the Bufeo (the name we have for pink dolphins here) turns itself into a handsome man and goes to parties trying to get some young woman to follow him into the river and drown her. Apparently the Brazilian version of the story says the dolphin prefers married women.
Great Video!

The amazon has to be the most unsettling land imo. Hot, humid, and jungles full of rivers full of stuff I'd rather not interact with.
I wish there was a mention for the stingrays. Good stories about them
The narration is hilarious 👍🏾 😅

There's so much to talk about the Amazon rainforest, like stories of people who get lost in there for several days, supernatural tales, Boto raping women, the deforestation procress, how natives live there and much more
Caïman are very vicious! The pigmy caiman are exceptionally cool too!! They make good pets.
LOL, the American loved the caiman so much he wanted to take it home
