I have used the SRT7 (original) as a dedicated tactical duty light for over 6 years as a law enforcement officer. My favorite key features were: high-lumen output, good throw distance, balanced beam, replaceable (18650) batteries, and the ability to 'pre-select' the lumen/mode output. This made it a good searchlight, with abilities to signal, and as a self-defense tool. I always carried a spare 18650 and a small charger with me in my bag.
It has served me very well up until the light began to show a bit too much wear, such as a slightly loose selector ring.

i saw looking at the one and the p23i. wanted a new light with more throw and tail stand capable. however the p23i is tippy tail standing. ive had the edc35 for like a month now and dont really have any complaints however the p23i i think performs better at the 3000 lumens. it last several mins for 10 sec on the edc35

Funny what a concern port covers are when ive carried a RovyVon for years on a key chain daily with its super tiny port cover and its in perfect shape still. Pretty simple to set the light down when charging and unplug and put the cover back in place. As far as proprietary batteries i get the argument but its moot in my opinion. Built in a bit less so if you run hard and long and need the light to swap a battery, otherwise its like a cell phone that no one complains about. The depreciation of a 1500 dollar cell phone to becoming worth little to no money in 5-7 years seems fine with most people as they upgrade. Do the same on a 85 dollar built in battery light. In the scheme of things its free in comparison. I have a crate of old flashlights out of date tech, all with replaceable batteries that never get used. It would not have mattered if they were proprietary or not, or even built in.

Hi, the P20iX arrived yesterday. I really like the uniformity of the light beam. However, I am very interested in the EDC35. I understand that you penalized the EDC35 a lot for the lack of the strobe, personally I don't use the strobe and I find it annoying when it happens to me by mistake so for me the absence is an advantage, not a flaw :-)

I like a simple „one button“ UI in the tail cap, protected by a bezel against unwanted switching and to provide tail stand ability. That is what my older Flashlights from JetBeam and Fenix provide. But over time they were beaten in luminance and brightness by modern keyring flashlights. So I‘m searching for modern flashlights for EDC and searchlight. I recognize that different people have different wantings. In customer ratings and professional reviews I can read that much people want a sidebutton, some as mainswitch and some as modeswitch. I don’t.
The Nightcore EDC33 and EDC35 are two of my favourites because their maximum luminance output as flood light, relative good throw performance as beam light and the single tailbutton. Only the momentary flood and beam mode makes me a bit unhappy but it is acceptable because longer use in that modes causes overheating. I‘m only worried about the build-in battery.
The other Nitecores on my wishlist are the P23i and SRT7i about their roughness, relative good lightperformance and tailcap UI. Unhappy that they don‘t work with standarized batteries. The lightperformance of the MH25 Pro is quite more my favourite, but the less robustness and the UI with one tailbutton and one sidebutton don‘t satisfy me and so I closed it out of my wishlist.

      What's your definition of "tactical?"
While I do agree with the reviewer that the P20iX's "white wall" effect lends tremendous situational awareness at closer distances -i.e. it will cast a bright "flat" light across even a good-sized room- it simply completely lacks throw. Given that most "big box" discount stores, supermarkets, and even schools have at least one long isle/hall that can easily be between 50 to 100 yards/meters long, we can also see (no pun intended) where "throw" is very necessary.
Similarly, you need throw to be able to punch-through photonic barriers. Even in fog, it's arguably better to have a more powerful light that has a more concentrated beam (which you can then direct to illuminate your area of interest in an oblique/indirect manner), versus a more diffuse light, which just back-scatters all the more.
They're all "tactical" in that each tool is designed to meet a specific end goal.
But the real question is what your goal(s) happen(s) to be: like the other person above who asked what light would be best for hunting.....

@@carlostovar8585 I have all three, and I would go with the EDC35 for hunting.
Reason: The peak beam intensity of the "Search" function for the EDC45 is spec'ed at 75,700 cd. while that of the SRT7i is 85,500. Yes, the SRT7i will throw farther, but the EDC35 doesn't give up that much, there, and yet has the advantage of the Lumin Shield floodlight mode, which will give you a close-range white-wall effect to help you gain more visibility close-up, in a wider swath, when you need it.
