Somehow I managed to make a new video in the old format?
* Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo and Space Dandy (all directed by Shinichiro Watanabe) have very unique eyecatches for each episode.
"who's that pokemon" is probably one of the most iconic eyecatches
In the original they are much harder to guess because the shadow versions isn't shaped as the pokemon itself. Like that Purin (Jigglypuff) being just a circle before she stands up
there also eyecatchers for Rockman.EXE (season 1, Axess, Stream, Beast/+)

I always love it when the eye catch sequences display additional information, like the stand charts in Jojo. I wish they would do it with more animes, like the wanted poster sequences in one piece could display the character's current bounty, constantly updating with every achievement the character makes.
Attack on Titan does the same thing! at times they just straight up throw important character details at you, lol
Aot did better also one piece rarely dropped those
OP does that from time to time, but I prefer they change the whole eye-catch format like they usually do, from arc to arc (or saga to saga, more like it xD).

I love AOT's eyecatches always tell watchers some information about the equipments, story settings, scout's research, and story about the world!
It’s a nice way to deliver all the info that mangakas dump at the end of volumes or in interviews without feeling intrusive to the story

I also like it. it doesn’t barge in the story, but it’s rather a subtle breakdown.
And in my opnion is one of the best eyecatches

I wish more cartoons these days, regardless of country of origin, had eyecatches. If my comic book ever gets finished and gets made into a cartoon, I'd love to have them too
But I thought some streaming services have ads. It would still be really jarring if you were watching Sailor Moon and got a modern American ad 😂

Some things should stand the test of time, and by God anime eye-catchers should be one of those things
@muslimsagainstdegeneration9544 Unnecessary or not, having eyecatches can be a stylistic choice that doesn't take away from anything, and could fill in 10 seconds of time every episode for comparedly less work.
The eyecatches in old anime that I've seen on streaming services have been kept and were all enjoyable.
So yes, it's unnecessary, but also not a detriment.
At first I wasn't sure what "eyecatches" were, but these were essentially break indicators, right? For things like going to commercial breaks & back from commercial breaks. Nice subject to review that is not really covered.
Yup. Honestly they're such an untalked about part of anime, mainly also because in streaming they get cut out (but when you pirate anime you can still find some which have the eyecatch). I really like them tbh.

No eyecatchers are pretty popular topic. I saw a few articles about them, and tons of videos here on youtube.
Japanese ones are made in house, and they are part of the show. Which is why they got their own name (eye catcher). Western ones are not made in house, they are called bumpers.
This guy compiled a bunch of them together to show the evolution, which is pretty unique. 👍

These are such small additions to an anime, yet some of them are nostalgic and genuinely really good
I love that every magical girl anime has an eyecatch that is so adorable like precure, sanrio anime onegai my melody, jewelpet, etc, all of them are memorable if you happen to watch them at a young age.
The "Fullmetal Alchemist" jumpscare never gets old 😂

The Yu Yu Hakusho, Yugioh, Pokémon and Gundam eye catches are so nostalgic. I love that they keep ‘em even when the episodes are posted/uploaded online. I don’t know why, but it really adds something to them.

When i was a kid these eyecatchers didnt exist in the tv Broadcasting...so when i was getting older and the internet became a thing i was really surprised to discover them while watching my fav anime.

That was only in one episode most of the time the eye catches were very obvious and sometimes they would even have a gag Eyecatch like this one

one tiny nitpick i have though, is with the one piece eyecatchers, as the ones shown are not the first ones that were actually used in 1999, but from quite a bit later on, if memory serves, the first eyecatchers in one piece were of the wanted posters flying by.
Yes, of course. I chose the "telescope" ones as they seem to be some of the fan favs. They are from around ep.250... so its from some years later, it became a bit inconsistent on the video.

Several other series have unique eyecatchers per episodes (ex. Pokemon, FMA:B, etc.) or atleast several variants (ex. Yu Yu Hakusho, Hunter x Hunter '99, One Piece) I love anime eyecatchers, If anything I'd like a compilation of every eyecatcher (possible) per decade.

OP's eye-catches weren't like that on 1999 xD Those are correct, but they were used later in the story (maybe between 2005-2008 or so). Just a friendly reminder.
I like that the eye-catches follow their own rules, yet there's a differences between then and now. In earlier times, there was kind of a patter to follow: a character, usually the MC, in chibi form, did a cool or funny pose or action (Ranma, DB, Sailor Moon). Now the eyecatches might be more free in adapting the nature of their animes (introducing the DN's rules; the disc for Carole & Tuesday, etc.), for example, and they can be just as funny as before (that Haikyuu one). They can choose if they want to follow the 80/90's pattern or if they prefer to be more simple (BNHA), though they still portray either (or both) their MCs or their titles. It's interesting. It has changed its formula... but it's still the same rules; I think we can see more things in common between eye-catches than between other aspects in anime ^^ Probably 'cause they serve the same function as before: just being gags/stops to introduce publicity ads xD
