You want your mind REALLY blown? Check the entire album “Aja”.
Not a day goes by that I don’t listen to a song off Aja. All I can say is that album is perfection!
That album still blows me away with the production. Definitely one of the best albums of all time.
I always considered Aja to be a "yacht rock" sellout. The peak of their writing was "The Royal Scam" album.
@@TEScharf Yacht rock didn’t even become a term until the 2000s.
PRO TIP: There are no bad Steely Dan songs.
Check out "Do It Again" from the same album. Great choice. 👍
Steely Dan is a rabbit hole so worthy of going down. I can honestly say there are very few days that I don’t hear at least one SD song. Absolutely love your reactions! Keep them coming!
SD is more like a _black_ hole ⚫you may never return from.
When you listen to Steely Dan, always keep in mind the fact that they might not be completely serious about what they're saying. They have a lot of songs that are sarcastic, or intentionally creepy, or told from the point of v iew of some kind of fringe character.
The guitar solo in this, by session guitarist Randall Elliott is considered one of the greatest.
Jimmy Page says it is his favorite guitar solo! He rates it a 12/10.
Classic rock/jazz fusion band with lots of hits from the seventies.
The whole album. It's their debut album, and it's pretty remarkable how popular all the songs are for that
Ah, one of the all time classics from what is often referred to as a musicians’ band and when one listens to the sheer class of musicianship throughout their long career, then one begins to realise what that means. One of the American greats from the 1970’s and onwards!
This was just their first album. It only gets better and better. The full album to check out is Aja, it's a remarkable achievement and not to be missed. If you want to check out just one more song, try Kid Charlemagne, Green Earrings or Hey Nineteen. The Dan have never put out a bad song, ever.
Steely Dan, Hey Nineteen, You'll like it Trust me.
Awesome music. These days, they don't make it like that, anymore.
Been listening to this song for nearly fourty years. Since I was a kid in the 80's. And it still brings me the same amount of joy now as it did then.
Do it again is my favorite SD Song.
Full album, definitely. Then check out every other Steely Dan song in existence. They are phenomenally good.
EVERYTHING of theirs is amazingly crisp, full, and startlingly good. Aja album, the title track, would be a great next listen.
Oh man... this came out when I was in 6th grade. What a privilege to grow up in such an era of great music playing on the radio every day.
5th grade for me -- bought the 45.
React to "Do It Again" off this record. Timeless
The whole album is excellent. Their most popular album is Aja, which is very jazzy in the best way possible.
Great guitar solo, Silas! 😊 Hey, definitely check out the opening song on this album, which was also a huge hit and an even bigger hit than this one, and it's such a hypnotic song. But there's a lot of wisdom buried in it as well: "Do It Again".
Love your unfiltered reaction to this masterpiece! You'll love Steely Dan!
Fay-gun. LOL. Denny Diaz on those great guitar licks. This was my favorite song for many years.
You are getting lots of great suggestions. I guarantee you will love "My Old School".
Pronounced: Donald FAY- GUN 🔫.
Becker and Fagan have won multiple Grammys including Album of the Year and Best Engineering/Production. They've been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, The Songwriters Hall of Fame and The Library of Congress.
It is often said that Steely Dan is your favorite band's favorite band.
Enjoy the journey.
My Old School is a must on your journey through "The Dan".
Aja is probably their best album. The title track, plus Deacon Blues, are two of the best tracks on it. Also try Bodhisattva- the guitar is infectious!
Dude, you gotta get on some more steely dan. They are absolutely one of the greatest bands ever, I'd suggest Don't Take Me Alive next.
The old saying is that Steely Dan is the favorite band of your favorite band.
Steely Dan My Old School, Peg, Aja and many more. Unbelievable.
Their best album is The Royal Scam (1976). You can play every track from it and marvel at the creativity and performance!
Black Cow my young friend...
Great Song. They have many.
You just can't go wrong with Steely Dan. So much exceptional music. It's a cavernous rabbithole, you'll be glad that you did.
Check out Kid Charlemagne
"Do It Again" is amazing, even if you don't review I'd suggest listening to it.
Don't know if anyone's mentioned it but I believe Jimmy Page said this was his favorite guitar solo.
You can't go wrong with Steely Dan. I'm a huge fan! Their albums are phenominal. Hope you dive deep into this band, it's worth it. ❤
The ultimate musicians band. Their catalogue is stuff of legend.
This is ONE GREAT BAND ...non stop hits, album after album......but it's the "other stuff" you gotta hear man..... :)
Best debut album ever!
So, Donald Fagen (fay-gun) and Walter Becker are one of the best 70's duo's and the other band members are good too! Always a fun band to listen to Jazzy sound with fantastic harmonies~ Donald Fagen's solo 'Nightfly' would be a good song for you to hear.
Watching you enjoy another legendary group was fun! I subscribed a while ago after watching your reaction to my band, U2.
You're enjoyment of the classic music, makes this 'soon to be 60' guy happy to know that someone from your gen gets it!!
Huge hit. And it remains my favorite SD song.
Pronounced Faygun.
The Dan went from being a rock/pop band with some jazz leanings… to a jazz rock band over 8 years and 7 albums.
Some of the best albums ever - my faves are The Royal Scam & Aja - but they’re all worthy of your playlist forever. You’ll hear why if you dive in.
On this album ( and I would heavily suggest you sample songs off the albums in order of the album’s release) go with Do It Again and ‘Dirty Work’ and ‘Only a Fool Would Say That’ is a great deeper cut.
We’ll follow along.
In my day we had to use real air for an air guitar. And it was against the wall two miles away up hill and in the snow. Lol. Love your reactions
Steely Dan should always be mentioned with the “greats”.
Nice you listened to this. It's a song from when Donald and Walter met in college, about your age. HOT guitar by Skunk Baxter, I believe. I have searched long and hard to get that analogue overdriven sound. Apparently he liked to plug direct into the board and overdrive it there. Another awesome overdriven guitar sound is on Steely Dan "Parkers Band"
Driving around with friends on Friday nights, blasting this song on the car radio, singing as loud as you can. j/s
This was from their debut album. Check out Brooklyn and Do it again from that one. Another good early one is My old school, which is on their next album.
College is a good time to discover the Dan.
Full album... definately!
Genius perfection
Listen to DO IT AGAIN next and be prepared to be blown away.
That was fun hearing this one with you, new your channel, nice work thanks! - old Pac NW musician.
If you DO check out Aja, it's pronounced asia
Fagen rhymes with Reagan (like Ronald Reagan).
This album, “Can’t Buy A Thrill”, stands am8ng the best debut albums ever. Not only does it have this song, but also check out “Do It Again” “Dirty Work”, “Kings”, and “Brooklyn”.
Jimmy Page has said that Elliott Randall’s solo on “Reelin’ In The Years” is his favorite of all time.
Midnight Cruiser is my favorite song off that album
I saw them live in Atlanta Stadium. It was an open air stadium. It was sprinkling rain, and they were playing some good (new) stuff from the next album, bands always want to do that, and finally it cut loose and started pouring rain. People headed for the exits. They stopped the song they were playing and went straight into Reelin In The Years and you could see the whole crowd turn around and head back to their seats, no longer caring about getting wet. Great band.
You should listen to Do It Again off this album, but also their later songs "Peg," "Josie" and "Deacon Blues."
There isn't a bad song on any SD albums. Can't Buy a Thrill is their debut album. Check out the whole album you won't be disappointed. Been a fan since 73. Other albums are the Royal Scam, Aja just to name a few
Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin said this was his favorite guitar solo.
Just the tip of the iceberg with Steely Dan
Check out the entire album "The Royal Scam" , young man. After all these years it's still in my top 5.
Maybe I got the wrong impression, but it felt like before the song, you exhibited some smirking skepticism. But once the tune began, that quickly changed to being blown away by the quality of the playing. Keep listening, young blood. More pleasures await.
LOW DARTS BRO. LOW DARTS. REELIN IN THE YEARS. YOU WON'T BELIEVE IT. THEY ARE YOUR AGE. JUST INCREDIBLE....
Small fit of giggles there 😆
Jimmy Page called the guitar solo here the best he's ever heard.
Pretzle (Pretzel) logic is probably my favourite album.
there is a rabbit hole u need to go down
I subbed becuz my nephew's name is Silas....lol... and becuz I like writing the word BECUZ...ya know it could be spelled that way and save a lot of time and key strokes...lets get a petition going to Websters Dictionary
This feels like a dis track. I don't know who it is directed at. SIlas - I'm glad you did some Steely Dan!
Please don’t associate your Millennial rap terms with this great track.
The 1970's just stole another young mind.
AJA !! the best one!!!!!!!
Donald Fagen - "New Frontier"
I think "Peg" from Aja is the best pop song ever written.
Guitarist Skunk Baxter is the SHIT!!!
It's a well known truism that listening to the Dan rasises your IQ: Do more!! 🙃😉
Donald Faygun
Fay-Gen as in BEGGIN'
Popped the Dan for the first? Please, try Black Cow or better yet Hey Nineteen or Babylon Sisters, yes that one! Nice reaction.
It's a kind of finger-pointin' song, directed at Fagan's ex-girlfriend at the time. Always nice when a great song is the end result of a bad romance.
Silas, this song is for you, college-man.. LOL
This whole album is great but if you want another Steely Dan rock out guitar track then check out Bodhisattva
Fay-gun
Kid Chalemagne
Phagan Fay - gan
Pronounced Fae - gan😊
Do HAITIAN DIVORCE!
Kid Charlemagne is your next
It's pronounced Fay-gen.
Honest question, not trying to be an arse, is there some reaction on the channel? It seems like just playing a song and asking for subscriptions? What are your thoughts?
FAY-gun.
Can't pronounce 'Fagan" ??????
Steely Dan's collection of losers, malcontents, disenfranchised, and disturbed anti-heroes is endless. There is no band quite like them, and they really have no genre. They are, IMO, America's greatest band of the R&B/R&R era. They are simultaneously funny, wiry, poignant, and clever. Some would say perhaps a bit too clever. Even how they got their name is clever. There is really no such thing as a bad SD song, and they are a rabbit hole that would amaze Alice. My favorites are "Black Cow", "Peg", "Kid Charlemagne", "Aja", "Deacon Blues", the entire "Aja" album, "Hey Nineteen", "The Fez", "Green Earrings", "Reelin' In The Years", "Babylon Sisters", "Dirty Work", "Rikki Don't Lose That Number", "Don't Take Me Alive", "My Old School", "Any Major Dude Will Tell You", and "Doctor Wu". But others will tell you their faves. Try "Peg" next then go from there.
Crack musicians, composed music with lyrics that have both wit and sarcasm that make you think. What's not to like? And I have liked since 1972.
Cool, original recording reaction - becoming rarer than a lunar eclipse. If you're forgoing monetization to get this up, it is appreciated, because let's face it, watching old men cover the songs they did in their youth 50 years earlier ain't it, nor are poor-quality live recordings from 50 years ago (well, in most cases). But that's all I see these days. RUclips has really killed the reaction genre. Anyway, this is terrific 4-minute guitar solo interrupted with some clever lyrics.
I've never heard someone laugh at Donald Fagen's name. What are you, 10? Grow up, dude. And it's pronounced with a long A, and a hard G.
I’ve heard it multiple times in my life. Seriously.
I don’t think someone 10 would find it funny. You’d have to atleast be a teen to see understand word within the name. By the time you start listening their music though the jokes stop.
Zoomer discovers boomer music. Can’t pronounce names. Totes teh lol.
Gen X music that was made by boomers.
@@DJTexan Not really. Gen X radio was not interested in Steely Dan.
@@jrrarglblarg9241 The first Gen X were graduating high school when this came out in 1973. Besides, if you look at comments on the song, there are many people that say they enjoyed Steely Dan when they were kids in the 70s/80s/90s. Heck I remember teens listening to 50s music in the 80s. We didn’t care about the age of music like Gen Z does, with the exception of Silas. Good music was good music to us.
The album isn't worth it, but Do It Again certainly is. For me, it much much better than this track. They are an awesome band.
Dirty work...
FAY-gun.
