Never seen a hen harrier to my knowledge, so that was amazing to see and a real privilege to watch it hunting. What a beautiful place to park, the colour of the sea and sand. I definitely need to get over there in the campervan. I love watching shore birds, they are very entertaining to watch. Beautiful photos and a lovely video again.
Hi Dan. I am STILL catching up with your Scotland tour! What an epic experience you are having. Amazing low level photos of waders/shorebirds plus the beautiful Hen Harrier which I am looking forward to seeing again soon when wintering birds return to the Essex marshes. I think I may invest in one of those ground pods which look an excellent bit of kit. Hopefully, I am now up to date with your tour 🙂
Totally agree with you about a bigger eyecup and the ability to keep your non shooting eye open, you have excelled in this series in video, stills and tips. 10/10, no need to try harder
Great as usual....and great to see another place we spent a few hours at in May....lot more birds when we went by the looks of it....and even though I can't get down on the floor still managed some of the best shore bird photos I've ever got
Beautiful images and hugely informative. The information on technique and settings is so useful thank you Dan. Look forward to the next one. Regards Andy
Another fantastic video Dan and some amazing images as always. Great timing this video as it’s wader city up here in Northumberland so been photographing them regularly but some great tips for me to take on board. Have been considering getting a different eye cup so defo going to invest now after what you’ve said. Look forward to the next video. 😀👍
Hello Dan, Sorry its me once more. I must say what a super set of 4 video your tour has been to watch. Some amazing images and great tips to. Thank you for taking the time to edit and shoot. Keep well, stay safe and enjoy taking images.
Cracking couple of videos on the Outer Hebrides. One set of islands I've never spent any length of time on (apart from a one night stay before heading out to dive St Kilda). Thinking of possibly hiring a camper in 2026 (to see if we like it before committing to a purchase) so may tap you up for some advice 🙂
I can thoroughly recommend it mate, we absolutely love the freedom that a van brings and used a combination of sites and wild camping spots to make the most out of the trip. Happy to help if needed mate 👍🏻
Fantastic series Dan! Some great views, stills & video of some of the UK’s most iconic species. Well done mate, & well said about the acquisition of local knowledge & the importance of a guide from the area in such a vast remote location- you could literally have wasted three or four days trying to locate stuff yourself (not that time outdoors is often wasted time, but I think you get my point); but by joining forces with a local guide you are definitely giving yourself much better chances & the odds swing in your favour. Fabulous experience with the Goldies & Hen Harriers too, & I’m with you on the “Grey Ghost” - 100% my favourite raptor & one that I am desperate to get decent images of. Maybe this winter I might get lucky 🤞 Awesome stuff mate, just brilliant & as always some great tips for the viewers too. Nice mate 👍 Keep on keeping on! Best, Nick
@@nickclaytonphotography thanks Nick, I thoroughly enjoyed reading your comment and it is clear that we have a very similar outlook on so many areas of wildlife photography and life in general. If you ever get the chance to visit Lewis and Harris it is simply breathtaking mate and well worth the long hack up there. Take care and all the very best mate 👍🏻
@@danwillis_photography I get exactly that same vibe Dan, we’ve just got to get together at some point & I’m sure we’d have a blast bud! Funnily enough, 2025 just could be my year for visiting Shetland & the Outer Hebrides, so we shall see…. All the best Dan & Co 👍
Fantastic foties Dan. I especially liked the one of the ringtail near the ground in flight. Your presenting skills and sharing your knowledge keeps getting better and better 😀😀
Like you, I really struggle to use the viewfinder when I'm working at ground level even though that's my preferred way of working. The pain in my neck and across my shoulders can be excruciating and I sometimes experienced blurred vision and even a bit of mental confusion. I recently found out that it can be a dangerous position to put yourself in (craning the neck up while laying prone). I can't remember the medical details, but it was enough to convince me to use the back screen when I work like that!
Hi Mike, thank you for your message. It’s really sparked my interest as I have experienced the same symptoms as yourself and just assumed it was me. I will definitely be using the flip screen moving forward. Thanks again 👍🏻
Looks like a magic spot. Shorebirds are difficult to identify. I struggle with them even when viewing the photographs on my computer with my field guide next to me. Some great shots of the birds in flight. Especially for a Nikon user.🤣😎
Great video mate, the sanderling and sandpiper are both dunlin , im also learning waders they are so tricky, same as gulls they all look the bloody same 😂

Great pics of the Ringed Plovers! And some nice BIFs too. We get many of the same waders here in Japan...

Oh dear … you must be new to birding. We use the term ‘waders’ in the UK, not ‘shorebirds’ … a term you must have learned on RUclips.
